Top 10 Exact Moments We Knew a TV Couple Would Be Together

Welcome to MsMojo, and today we’re counting down our picks for the times it was clear that a TV couple was endgame. For this list, we’ll be looking at live action series only. Also, we may be spoiling some major plot points, so a spoiler alert is in effect. Did we miss your favorite TV couple? Let us know in the comments.
#10: The Receipt
David Rose & Patrick Brewer From “Schitt’s Creek” (2015-20)
David Rose certainly had a vision for the general store he wanted to open. Unfortunately, he had no real business savvy to make it happen. So, when he meets Patrick Brewer to see about a business license, it’s kind of shocking how much patience the latter has for David’s eccentricity. The two become business partners, but it isn’t until Patrick has their first receipt framed for David’s birthday that we see the sparks really fly between both of them. It’s one of the first times we’ve ever seen the normally materialistic David get sentimental. That’s when we knew it was a sure thing.
#9: “Carrie, You’re the One”
Carrie Bradshaw & Mr. Big From “Sex and the City” (1998-2004)
Their relationship on the show started and ended like a modern-day fairytale. Carrie Bradshaw’s meet-cute with her future husband on the streets of Manhattan is a classic moment from “Sex and the City’s” very first episode. However, anyone who sticks by the columnist through all her personal trials and tribulations finds out that the story doesn’t end there. In fact, there are plenty of times Mr. Big seems like Mr. Big Mistake. But, it isn’t until the series finale, where Big chases Carrie to Paris, that he finally makes the commitment she always needed from him. This big moment came late in the game but, as they say, better late than never.
#8: That First Meeting
Niles Crane & Daphne Moon From “Frasier” (1993-2004)
So much of the comedy on this “Cheers” spin-off revolved around stuffy intellectuals being kind of hopeless when it comes to relationships. The brilliant but awkward Dr. Niles Crane was actually married when he met his brother’s new live-in housekeeper, the eccentric Daphne Moon. By the end of the series, of course, Daphne would be his wife. While it was clear it was love at first sight for Niles, Daphne was a little slower on the uptake. Still, from that first meeting we knew this wouldn’t fizzle out. It took years, but it made for some great tension for several seasons and a super satisfying conclusion when they finally did get together.
#7: Luke Cleans Up
Lorelai Gilmore & Luke Danes From “Gilmore Girls” (2000-07)
Any loyal fan knows that it took way too long for Lorelai Gilmore and Luke Danes to make things official. At first, the ruggedly handsome but disheveled diner owner is just that to Lorelai: “the guy who pours her coffee”. Toward the end of the pilot episode, however, she’s stunned by how well he cleans up. He’s traded in his denim and baseball cap for a nice shirt and slacks. Normally, Lorelai’s a chatterbox. For the first time, she’s speechless. It would take Lorelai burning through several boyfriends and even a fiancé to finally see what was clear from the very first episode.
#6: Prom Night
Meredith Grey & Derek Shepherd From “Grey’s Anatomy” (2005-)
Meredith Grey was stunned when she showed up to her first day as a surgical intern and realized her one-night stand from the night before was actually Dr. Derek Shepherd, her superior. By the end of the first season, Derek’s wife has re-entered the picture and Meredith spends all of season two avoiding him. For a while, it actually seems like things might cool off between them. Then, during Seattle Grace Hospital’s prom night, they can’t contain their mutual infatuation anymore. On the dance floor, they lock eyes over the shoulders of their respective partners. Next thing we know, they’re sneaking into an exam room and proving that we were foolish to ever think it was over.
#5: The Dress
Jess Day & Nick Miller From “New Girl” (2011-18)
When you look back, it’s hard to imagine it wasn’t the writers’ intention to show their cards from the jump. Apparently, actors Zooey Deschanel and Jake Johnson had a little too much chemistry for their tastes. From the first episode, it’s clear how much Nick is into Jess. They’re still new roommates in the premiere, but the way Nick looks at her when she rounds the corner all dolled up for her date speaks volumes. Like any good romance, this one took time to catch fire. But any lover of a good slow burn knew exactly what that look on Nick’s face meant when they saw it.
#4: The End
Ted Mosby & Robin Scherbatsky From “How I Met Your Mother” (2005-14)
After nine long seasons of watching Ted Mosby tell his children the story of how he met and fell in love with their mother, the show pulls an infamous bait and switch. “How I Met Your Mother” kills off the titular mother in the series finale. Ted’s children help him realize that he’s actually in love with Robin, the woman he was on-again and off-again with throughout the series. The very last shot shows him on her doorstep. Depending on who you talk to, it’s either genius or completely ridiculous. But, one thing’s for sure. Despite all their hemming and hawing over the show’s run, you really didn’t know Ted and Robin would be together for good until that very last scene.
#3: “Teenage Dream”
Kurt Hummel & Blaine Anderson From “Glee” (2009-15)
It’s impossible to overstate the vice grip “Glee” had on all who watched it during its run. In this season-two episode, the Dalton Academy Warblers’ iconic rendition of Katy Perry’s “Teenage Dream” cements the budding attraction between Kurt and Blaine. They’ve only just met, but it’s too late to turn back now. The moment Blaine takes Kurt’s hand and leads him through the school’s hallways birthed an army of teen viewers who would have threatened violence if the two didn’t end up together. In spite of bumps in their road, Klaine, as they were affectionately called, would be one of the show’s longest lasting couples.
#2: Mixed Berry Yogurt
Jim Halpert & Pam Beesly From “The Office” (2005-13)
A lot of shows use the mockumentary format. “The Office” itself is based on a British sitcom. But the American version really leans into the talking-head interviews to give us a big picture view of what’s really happening between coworkers Jim Halpert and Pam Beesly. Yes, to them, their office banter isn’t at all romantic. But we know Jim’s into Pam as soon as he tells us her favorite flavor of yogurt. And we know it’s mutual as soon as Pam blushes when the documentary crew tells her. Thus begins an agonizingly precious slow burn that will carry us into the next several seasons of “will they or won’t they” madness.
#1: When She Gets Off the Plane
Ross Geller & Rachel Green From “Friends” (1994-2004)
Look, there are a lot of moments we could put here. You could argue that the writing was on the wall for these two from the very first episode. But, after a literal decade of arguing about whether or not they were on a break, we finally get sweet, sweet confirmation that Ross and Rachel were forever. In the very last episode, Ross, realizing he can’t let Rachel move to Paris, tells her he loves her. She gets all the way to the plane, leaving us in awful suspense as to whether or not this couple will finally come to be. You, of course, know what happens next.
