Top 10 Funniest Things You Missed In Happy Gilmore 2

#10: Happys SNL Haircut
In the opening moments of Happy Gilmore 2, the beleaguered former golf pro brings viewers up to speed on what hes been up to in the nearly three decades since his left-field 1996 Tour Championship victory over Shooter McGavin. Contrary to what fans might expect, Happy went on to win five more championships. As a result of his newfound celebrity, Happy is asked to host Saturday Night Live (which is not so coincidentally Sandlers alma mater), and each successive hosting appearance is dated by which musical guest Happy shouts out. For his third hosting go-round, Happy mentions that The Weeknd is the musical guest while sporting the same haircut that the Canadian superstar did for much of his career.
#9: The Happy Gilmore Video Game Experience
In case you hadnt already guessed it, Happy really took every opportunity to cash in on his newfound fame and success. At one point during the montage that opens Happy Gilmore 2, Sandlers character mentions that, in direct response to the success of the PGA Tour video game series, an unspecified developer engineered a Happy Gilmore video game. But Happy opines that they made it a little too realistic. That would be due to the fact that the game clearly recreates some of Happys most infamous moments from the first film, from strangling a young Will Zalatoris to his legendary brawl with the one and only Bob Barker.
#8: How Happy Used to Toughen Up
Ahead of Happy Gilmore 2s climax, the titular character drags an A-list roster of pro golfers to a batting cage, intending to teach them to toughen up Gilmore style. This calls back to how Carl Weathers Chubbs Peterson initially discovered Happy in the first film. In case you cant recall, the rage-filled Happy improves his hockey game in the only way he knows how: taking dozens of baseballs to the chest in an attempt to improve well we guess that only Happy knows that. In Happy Gilmore 2, its Happys new caddie Oscar who emerges victorious. How do you say smooth in Spanish?
#7: Grizzly Adams?
This one is a real blink-and-youll-miss-it moment. After Happy decides that hes going to pick golf back up again, he heads to a local course to practice. Wanting to keep a low profile, the veteran sportsman declines to register his name at the front desk. As he walks away, one of the clerks (played by prolific music producer Andrew Watt) asks if the disheveled, flannel-clad man was Grizzly Adams, which the other clerk (Los Angeles Sparks point guard Kelsey Plum) shrugs off. This appears to be a reference to a moment in the first film, when Shooter McGavin snidely suggests that the famous mountain man didnt have a beard to which Lee Trevino has a matter-of-fact counter.
#6: Big Checks
Both Happy Gilmore films revolve around Sandlers characters attempts to rustle up an intimidating amount of cash to, in some way, help his family out. In the first film, he amasses nearly $300,000 to save his grandmothers house from foreclosure and out of the hands of the slimy Shooter McGavin. In the second, Happy needs $75,000 to send his daughter Vienna to a prestigious Parisian ballet school. That financial relief can never come fast enough, and in the original Happy Gilmore, Happy needs a check to cash ASAP, and shares that hes not above taking a ceremonial big check... even if the amount of money contained within is laughable. In Happy Gilmore 2, those big checks are visible in Happys cluttered attic.
#5: Gary Potter
Watch enough Adam Sandler movies and you'll start to notice a familiar roster of faces. And to be clear, were not complaining: its always a treat when Saturday Night Live alum Kevin Nealon shows up. In Happy Gilmore, he plays Gary Potter (no apparent relation to the boy wizard), a well-meaning but clearly off-kilter pro golfer who offers Happy some, well lets call it spiritual guidance. Hardcore fans of the first film were likely thrilled when Nealon reprised his role in the sequel, having lost none of his eccentric charm which appears to be completely lost on real-life pro golfer Scottie Scheffler.
#4: A Tribute to The Waterboy
As Benny Safdies insufferable Frank Manatee goes on a whirlwind press tour, Happy Gilmore takes the baby steps necessary toward reclaiming his former golf glory. While out putting on a Connecticut beach, Happy runs into a friendly and familiar-looking vagrant. Although you might not recognize him, the elderly beachgoer is played by none other than Blake Clark, the frequent Sandler collaborator who played the mushmouthed Farmer Fran in 1998s The Waterboy. While Clarks cameo remains just that (a cameo), his characters tendency to tweak a certain part of his anatomy leads us to believe that hes reprising his role from the earlier film. Does that mean well see the return of Bobby Boucher in the near future? Only time will tell
#3: Lee Trevino
Six-time major championship winner Trevino played a small but amusingly pivotal role as himself in the first Happy Gilmore film. Whenever Happy would make a fool of himself, Trevino would be there, shaking his head disapprovingly. In fact, the golfer even happens to be at the scene of Chubbs Petersons untimely death. Trevino seems to have mellowed out by the time the sequel takes place, chatting with Happy with no apparent disdain for his behavior. We have to imagine that hes since backtracked on his claim that he wouldnt have appeared in Happy Gilmore if hed known about all the swearing.
#2: Mistah! Mistah!
From the get-go, it was pretty clear that Silver Acres Rest Home was hardly a five-star resort. And how could Happy have known that it was run with an iron fist by the abominable Hal L.? Happy and Grandmas first indication that something isnt quite right is the sudden appearance of a certain, particularly unhappy resident. Unfortunately for her, this isnt her final run-in with Happy. While attempting to fix Grandmas air conditioning, Happy unintentionally drops the unit on her, remarking that he thinks he may have well, you know. We finally get jokey confirmation that Happy did indeed take her life, when he and Shooter engage in a good, old-fashioned cemetery melee. So long, Mistah Mistah Lady we hardly knew ye.
#1: Scottie Schefflers Run-In With the Law
Dont worry: youd be forgiven for missing this easter egg if you dont follow professional golf. The last half of Happy Gilmore 2 has echoes of Space Jam, in that a team of pros is forced to compete against a superpowered new generation of athletes for the future of the sport. On Happys team is four-time major championship winner Scottie Scheffler, who made headlines in May of 2024 upon being arrested near Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky. Thankfully for Scheffler, even though he faced a number of criminal charges, they were dropped, and prosecutors described the incident as a big misunderstanding. Happy Gilmore 2 proves that Scheffler is a good sport by making light of his legal troubles and having him spend the end of the film in jail.
