Top 10 Funniest Wedding Songs EVER
#10: “Will You Love Me Tomorrow” (1960)
The Shirelles
So you’ve just spoken your vows and declared your love for each other in front of all your loved ones. And while it might be true that love fades and people change, we’d like to think it would take more than 24 hours post-wedding for that to happen. That makes “Will You Love Me Tomorrow” by the Shirelles a great song to add some ironic laughter to the festivities. Whether it’s your entrance song or your first dance, this one might shock people at first - but once they get the joke it will be some good LOLing times.
#9: “Don't Cha” (2005)
The Pussycat Dolls feat. Busta Rhymes
Unless it’s some kind of thrupple wedding - or one of those gotcha YouTube videos - the one topic of conversation no one expects at a wedding is talk of the husband’s girlfriend. Which has to put The Pussycat Dolls’ 2005 hit track “Don’t Cha” on our list. As a first dance, or if the bride and her bridesmaids do a dance, “Don’t Cha” is a good funny choice. However, may we recommend using it as your walk-down-the-aisle song for maximum impact as the Dolls ask “Don't you wish your girlfriend was hot like me?” And technically, until they say “I do” she’s still his girlfriend, so really - his girlfriend is hot like her. Because she is her.
#8: “Grow Old With You” (1998)
Adam Sandler
When it comes to funny wedding songs, they don’t always have to get their laughs from ironic lyrics. “Grow Old With You” is a perfect example of that. Used in the climactic win-back-the-girl scene in 1998’s “The Wedding Singer,” Adam Sandler’s sweet, funny, heartfelt song had most of the audience swooning probably just as much as Drew Barrymore did. So why not break this one out as a first dance? Or even better, if one of you can play the guitar and sing, perform it live to your new life-partner and watch the guests laugh and swoon around you.
#7: “Call Me Maybe” (2011)
Carly Rae Jepsen
Playing this song at a just-met, got-drunk, got-married-in-Vegas wedding would be more cringe than funny. However, playing this at the wedding of a longtime couple tying the knot - well that’s some cute stuff right there. Now it would be a bold comedic choice to use this song as the bride’s walk-down-the-aisle music. But we’re thinking that the first dance is the perfect place to break this one out and get some laughs from the guests as Carly Rae Jepsen sings, “Hey, I just met you and this is crazy/But here's my number, so call me, maybe.” Although, we’re also totally down with the “Call Me Maybe” wedding party flash mob also.
#6: “Love Stinks” (1980)
The J. Geils Band
Peter Wolf, the lead singer of the J. Geils Band was married to actress Faye Dunaway for five years in the 1970s. In 1979, he co-wrote the song “Love Stinks” about unrequited love gone bad. Was he writing from a place of pain following his divorce? We don’t know for sure. But we do know that such a song isn’t generally considered ideal wedding day music. In “The Wedding Singer,” the song even got Adam Sandler punched in the face. But if done properly, with the right amount of tongue-in-cheekness, using “Love Stinks” as your introduce-the-newlyweds song could be downright hysterical.
#5: “Another One Bites the Dust” (1980)
Queen
While this one is pretty good as an entrance song, we think “Another One Bites the Dust” works even better if used as the recessional music. “Picture it,” as our favorite Golden Girl, Sofia, would say: You and the love of your life have just made it official with the “I do”s, and sealed the deal with a kiss. Now, as you head off back down the aisle as a freshly married couple, the music announces to the world that another one (actually) two e have bitten the dust and turned their backs on singlehood. If the guests aren’t laughing then you invited the wrong people.
#4: “Highway to Hell” (1979)
AC/DC
There are those who, after some unhappy years and a contentious divorce might refer to their marriage as “hell.” But that sure ain’t the attitude most people go into it with, especially on their wedding day. And that’s exactly why this classic AC/DC song is a perfect one to surprise people and get a few laughs out of the crowd. Use it as your recessional tune, your entrance song or, maybe best used as your exit music - as you get into the car to drive off into marriage bliss. “Highway to Hell” will add some hard rockin’, guitar-riffin’ tongue-in-cheek good times to your special day.
#3: “Wannabe” (1996)
Spice Girls
Busting out a first dance to a song with lyrics that demand: “If you wanna be my lover, you gotta get with my friends” might seem like an odd choice for the occasion. To us though, it shows that you have a sense of humor and a nostalgia for the 90s that we definitely appreciate. We’ve all seen the videos of women catching their fiancees sleeping with their best friend on their wedding day. And while that isn’t funny at all, playing “Wannabe” at your wedding - now that’s something we want, something we really, really want. We also really wanna zigazig ah - but that’s for a different list.
#2: “Stuck in the Middle with You” (1973)
Stealers Wheel
Gerry Rafferty and Joe Egan of Stealers Wheel wrote “Stuck in the Middle with You” as a disparaging account of a music industry party. The clowns and jokers are references to music executives and various sleazy industry folk. Now, of course we all love our friends and family and couldn’t imagine our wedding day without them all there. But that doesn’t mean we all don’t have a few clowns and jokers on our guest lists that can laugh at themselves, and would be fun to point out in a loving way. You can also just do the Michael Madsen dance from “Reservoir Dogs” and surely get some cheers from the crowd. But maybe skip the cutting-off-someone’s-ear part, okay?
#1: “50 Ways to Leave Your Lover” (1975)
Paul Simon
While a roadmap on various ways to get away from your lover isn’t normal wedding day fare, when it’s wrapped up in this catchy beat and fun rhymes, it’s sure to get some giggles. Throwing it on as your recessional takes some courage given that you’ve very literally just finalized the marriage, but that could also be your best opportunity for some laughs. And even more so if the groom’s name happens to be Jack or Stan or Roy or Lee. If the new husband’s name is Gus and you’re able to time it so that, as the song plays, he breaks free and hops on a bus, well…. Talk about comedic perfection!
