Top 10 Glee Stars: Where Are They Now?

#10: Matthew Morrison
Matthew Morrison had performed on Broadway before appearing on “Glee,” and it seems to be his true love. Immediately following the end of “Glee’ in March 2015, Morrison returned to Broadway, portraying J.M. Barrie in “Finding Neverland” at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre. The production ran for 565 performances before ending in August 2016. However, he still isn’t done with television, as he earned a recurring role as Dr. Paul Stadler in the thirteenth and fourteenth seasons of “Grey’s Anatomy.” His personal life is also booming, as he and wife Renee Puente welcomed their first child, Revel James Makai, in October 2017.
#9: Dianna Agron
No, Dianna Agron did NOT fall off the face of the Earth. Despite no longer being a regular on “Glee” after the third season, Agron did not quit acting. She went on to appear in “The Family” alongside Robert De Niro and later earned a leading role in “Bare,” which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2015. She later made her stage debut at London’s St. James Theatre, portraying a leading role in “McQueen.” Despite receiving mixed reviews, Agron earned a West End Award nomination for Best Featured Actress in a New Production or Play. She also married Winston Marshall, banjoist and lead guitarist of Mumford & Sons, in October 2016.
#8: Amber Riley
Amber Riley auditioned for “American Idol”’s second season when she was 17, but she was rejected by the producers. She later earned her role as saucy diva Mercedes and became one of “Glee”’s breakout actors. Following the completion of “Glee,” Riley starred as Addaperle in NBC’s production of “The Wiz Live!” But her biggest accomplishment is scoring the lead role of Effie White in a West End production of “Dreamgirls.” The show ran at the beautiful Savoy Theatre beginning in 2016, and Riley won the prestigious Olivier Award for Best Actress in a Musical. Take that, “American Idol!”
#7: Jonathan Groff
Jonathan Groff played Rachel’s love interest Jesse St. James for fifteen episodes and mainly appeared throughout the first season. That’s probably because he was too busy taking over showbiz. In 2013, four years after “Glee” premiered, Groff provided the voice of Kristoff in “Frozen,” the sequel of which is set to be released in 2019. He also portrayed King George III in “Hamilton” and earned a Tony nomination for Best Featured Actor in a Musical. And it isn’t just musicals that Groff is interested in, as he also starred as Holden Ford in Netflix’s deliriously dark and depraved “Mindhunter,” which is set to air its second season some time in 2019.
#6: Naya Rivera
Santana was one of “Glee’s” breakout stars, going from background diva meant to stir up trouble to one of the most complex and interesting characters. This is in no small part due to Rivera’s acting abilities, which scored her a recurring role on Lifetime’s “Devious Maids” following the conclusion of “Glee.” The next year she published her memoir, “Sorry Not Sorry: Dreams, Mistakes, and Growing Up”. In 2018, she appeared in YouTube’s original show “Step Up: High Water,” portraying school administrator Collette Jones. She also gave birth to her son Josey in September 2015. Unfortunately, Rivera was arrested on domestic battery charges against husband Ryan Dorsey in November 2017. The charges were later dropped, and she and Dorsey have since divorced.
#5: Melissa Benoist
Melissa Benoist is undoubtedly one of the most successful actors to come out of “Glee.” Immediately following the conclusion of the show, Benoist began starring as the titular character Supergirl in CW’s successful series. The series’ fourth season debuted in October 2018. She has also branched away from young adult entertainment, appearing in “Patriots Day,” “Whiplash,” and Paramount’s “Waco,” which follows the infamous Waco siege of 1993. She also made her Broadway debut in 2018, starring in a limited run of “Beautiful: The Carole King Musical” at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre. Unfortunately, not everything is rosy, as Benoist and hubby/fellow “Glee” star Blake Jenner divorced in December 2017.
#4: Harry Shum Jr.
Shum was never on “Glee” for his singing abilities, a fact that the show was smart enough to address. He has always been a dancer and actor, a path that he has continued upon following “Glee’s” conclusion. Since January 2016, Shum has starred as Magnus Bane on Freeform’s “Shadowhunters,” a drama based on The Mortal Instruments novels. Later that year, he starred in YouTube’s original “Single by 30,” although the show was not renewed for a second season. He also made a brief appearance in the mega successful “Crazy Rich Asians.” In November 2015, Shum married his longtime girlfriend, Shelby Rabara, who is known for providing the voice of Peridot on “Steven Universe.” The couple also announced in November 2018 that they're expecting their first child.

#3: Chris Colfer
Colfer was one of the youngest actors on “Glee,” and while it wasn’t his first acting gig, it was his first appearance on television. He has appeared in film and TV since the conclusion of “Glee,” but his real focus has been on writing. He created “The Land of Stories”, a series of children’s adventure novels published between 2012 and 2017. In early 2017, he released another book called “Stranger Than Fanfiction”. Colfer is also set to direct a film adaptation of “The Land of Stories” and develop a new TV show called “Indigo” about a group of children who possess supernatural abilities.
#2: Darren Criss
Unlike his fictional boyfriend, Darren Criss has continued to focus on his work as an actor. From April to July of 2015, Criss starred in the lead role of “Hedwig and the Angry Inch,” a Broadway musical about a transgender rock and roll singer. Beginning in January 2018, he starred as killer Andrew Cunanan in “The Assassination of Gianni Versace” and won the Emmy award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series. In 2018, he became engaged to his girlfriend of nearly eight years. The next year, he is set to appear in “Midway,” a film directed by Roland Emmerich depicting the Battle of Midway, a famous naval battle fought during World War II.
#1: Lea Michele
It’s only right to check in on “Glee’s” biggest star. Unlike her fictional character, Lea Michele was no stranger to Broadway before appearing on “Glee,” as she appeared in numerous productions, including “Les Misérables” when she was young. After finishing with “Glee,” Michelle portrayed Hester Ulrich on “Scream Queens” and starred in ABC’s “The Mayor,” although it was cancelled after just one season. She has also dabbled in music, as her second studio album, titled “Places,” was released in April 2017. She subsequently embarked on a co-headlining tour with Darren Criss throughout 2018. In April of that year, Michele became engaged to Zandy Reich.
