Top 10 Greatest TV Power Couples
#10: Booth & Brennan
“Bones” (2005-17)
She was a brilliant forensic anthropologist, and he was an FBI agent and a former sniper in the U.S. Army Rangers. Although they had different approaches, there was no doubting that they were both smart and accomplished and able to get things done. But put them together and there was almost nothing they couldn’t tackle. Their distinct backgrounds and skill sets filled in each other's gaps, and put their investigative efforts on another level. Falling in love, raising a family, and solving crimes...Let’s make no bones about it, Booth and Brennan were a superior team.
#9: Jake & Amy
“Brooklyn Nine-Nine” (2013-)
In classic romcom style, the relationship between Jake Peralta and Amy Santiago began as a rivalry, developed into a friendship, led to romance, and became a loving marriage. Both Jake and Amy are excellent detectives, but together these two do more than just keeping the streets safe. Their relationship is the emotional safe space both need, full of heart and good humor. Jake might have 99 problems, but Amy is definitely not one of them. No matter how much the job may sometimes suck, as Jake tells Amy all the way back in season one: And I think we found the name of another one of Amy’s sex tapes.
#8: Joe & Cecile
“The Flash” (2014-)
This is one of the couples on our list with actual superpowers. Not that a former police captain and an attorney need superpowers to be a power couple. At first these two members of “Team Flash” don’t have any extra abilities to speak of, until Cecile discovers that she can read minds. While sometimes disconcerting, the newfound ability just makes this commanding couple even more so. Although, depending on what he is thinking, Joe may sometimes wish he had the ability to run really fast like one half of another power couple on the show, Barry and Iris. Given the love that bonds Joe and Ceclie though, we think they’re probably at their happiest side by side.
#7: Cookie & Lucious
“Empire” (2015-2020)
Cookie and Lucious were already a power couple when they were married, before starting Empire Entertainment. Albeit a power couple entrenched in the illegal world of substance dealing, which is how they got the money they eventually used to take the music business by storm. But while a divorce and Cookie’s 17 year prison stint definitely changed the couple dynamic of these two, it certainly didn’t diminish their “power.” It’s true that they most definitely haven’t always been good to each other, but God help anyone who tries to mess with Cookie and Lucious and their empire!
#6: Lucifer & Chloe
“Lucifer” (2016-)
A match made in TV heaven. Chloe is a smart and skilled L.A.P.D detective and Lucifer is the devil who has left Hell to pursue life in human form on Earth. Their relationship was a slow burn from professional to romantic, but inevitably these two succumb to their obvious feelings for each other. Now, while it's pretty safe to assume that any couple that includes Satan is probably going to be pretty powerful, Chloe is more than a match for Lucifer in every way. These two come to know the true depths of each other and doing so just deepens their love for one another and their ability to accomplish anything together.
#5: Richard Castle & Kate Beckett
“Castle” (2009-16)
If this list is any indication, there’s no better recipe for romance than two people coming together to solve crimes. “Castle” is no exception. In this series a savvy NYPD Detective is teamed up with a mystery writer who, you guessed it, she eventually falls in love with. The pair don’t initially see eye to eye, giving us the kind of sizzling tension that is irresistible to watch. Of course, it was even more satisfying to see Castle and Beckett realize they couldn’t deny their true feelings for each other. As individuals, these two are clever, strong and talented, but when their unique perspectives on crime are brought together, they become a formidable team worthy of the company on this list.
#4:Buffy Summers & Angel
“Buffy the Vampire Slayer” (1997-2003)
She is the slayer, the “Chosen One” with an ability and duty to fight the evil forces of darkness. He is a Vampire, cursed with a human soul, filled with remorse for his past actions and in a constant battle against his evil nature. This unlikely match is captivating just for the opposing forces both seem to represent, but they have more in common than you would think. Both bear the weight of their powers and the responsibility they feel to the rest of the world, a heavy burden that few could manage. But they help each other carry that load and they are both made better when they are together.
#3: Blair & Chuck
“Gossip Girl” (2007-12)
These two spoiled teens grew up surrounded by the influence and privilege of the Upper East Side of New York City and they didn’t let it go to waste. Blair and Chuck share a lust for power, a wicked competitive streak, and an unparalleled talent for scheming. As daunting as they are separately, when they unite they’re an unbeatable combo. This is a true match in every sense of the term. True, their union may not be great for everyone around them, but it is perfect for Blair and Chuck. Strange as it may look to the outside, their relationship is full of love, support, and happiness uniquely tailored to the needs of their truest selves.
#2: Emma Swan & Captain Hook
“Once Upon a Time” (2011-18)
There are very few couples who could equal the pairing of the Savior and her seafaring lover. On her own, Emma Swan is obviously a force to be reckoned with. As the child of Snow White and Prince Charming she comes with an impressive pedigree, one that she keeps building on as Storybrooke’s Guiding Light and unwavering protector. Killian brings plenty to the table in his own right though. With his Pirate background and Captain status, he has proven capable of keeping up with Emma no matter what threat they find themselves facing. As their true love blossoms, it’s clear that their individual strength pales in comparison to the power of Team CaptainSwan.
