Top 10 Iconic The Devil Wears Prada Outfits
VOICE OVER: Emily Brayton WRITTEN BY: Sophia Huang
Years later, these outfits from "The Devil Wears Prada" are still iconic. Our countdown includes Andy's post-"Runway" outfit, Miranda's black fur coat, Emily Charlton's strong shoulder look, and more!

#10: Andy Sachs’ Bohemian Khaki Dress

This flowy, earth-toned dress made Andy look casually put together and polished even as she frantically rushed through the busy New York streets. The layered gold necklaces and bracelets add to the bohemian look, while the wide belt brings structure and definition to the overall silhouette. Despite the loose and drapey nature of the dress, all of the elements of the outfit, from the color palette to the accessories, work together to create something that looks cohesive yet effortless. Andy may have had a stressful day in this dress, but at least she looked good while doing it.

#9: Emily Charlton’s Strong Shoulder Look

Top 10 Best Emily Blunt Musical Moments

This is the first outfit we see Emily wearing in the movie, and it’s definitely a memorable one. First of all, her black statement vest with strong shoulders simply demands attention. Paired with silver accessories and dark smokey eyeshadow, her overall look has an edgy and somewhat grungy vibe, similar to her personality. Emily’s choice of clothing let Andy and the world know that she was deadly serious about her job at “Runway” magazine. Even though the base of this outfit is black and brown, its unique textures and details make it anything but basic.

#8: Andy’s Post-“Runway” Outfit

Although this look might not be as glamorous as the others on the list, it represents how, at the end of the movie, Andy manages to return to her authentic roots while also incorporating aspects of the “Runway” fashion world into her wardrobe. Even though she no longer has access to luxury brands and fresh off the catwalk pieces, this outfit proves that she’s fine on her own. The neutral tones and form-flattering pieces are miles ahead of her old, ill-fitting wardrobe, and they prove that style doesn’t necessarily need to be flashy or eye-catching.

#7: Nigel Kipling’s Three-Piece Suits

As Andy’s fashion guardian angel and “Runway”’s art director, it made total sense for Nigel to have impeccable style. Throughout the movie, he’s seen in a few casual outfits but his fashion sense truly shines when he’s in one of his various well-tailored three-piece suits. Rather than sticking to more conventional solid-colored options, Nigel has a way of looking perfectly polished no matter what pattern he wears. One of his most standout pieces is his beautiful blue plaid suit, which he wears to a fashion presentation with Andy and Miranda. The three were there to preview a designer’s new collection, but Nigel’s look nearly stole the show.

#6: Miranda Priestly’s Bold Gold Blazer

Miranda’s choice of pairing a catching gold blazer dripping with embellishments together with a simple black dress, really sums up her style: luxurious but still classic. Her look commands attention - not that Miranda needs help in that department - and signals to everyone else in the room that she’s in charge. When she delivers her striking monologue about the importance of fashion, her clothing almost seems to add to her authority with its balance of glamor and business. In this oufti, Miranda really showed Andy why she’s the boss.

#5: Andy’s Statement Layered Look

As Andy climbed the corporate ladder and became more accustomed to the fashion world, her outfits became noticeably more fashion-forward and edgy. This maximalist preppy look involved so many different pieces, including a tweed newsboy hat, statement pearl Chanel necklace, white button-down, and off the shoulder black sweater. There were certainly a lot of statement items going on at once, but Andy, with her newfound confidence and style, was able to pull it off. This outfit absolutely screams, “I work in the fashion industry” and is reminiscent of some of her other preppy looks, like her collared black dress and Chanel pearl necklace ensemble. (xref)

#4: Miranda’s Black Fur Coat

Nothing says power quite like a nearly floor-length, all black, fur coat. A piece like this is rarely seen out in real life. We’re most likely to see something like this in the pages of a magazine, on the runway, or of course, worn by celebrities and fashion icons, like Miranda Priestly. When she eventually takes the coat off, we see that she’s wearing a simple purple boat neck dress (xref). While a bit understated, the richness of the color combined with its associations with royalty, subtly indicate Miranda’s superior status.

#3:Andy’s Dark Paris Outfit

Even though Andy felt like a fish out of water in Paris, she certainly looked the part of chic fashion insider during one of her last days in the city. Her black gloves, matte red lipstick, statement gold necklace, and Brigitte Bardot-esque hair gives the whole outfit a classically glamorous vibe. At first glance, her dress appears to be black and incredibly similar to Miranda’s dress, but further inspection reveals that it’s just the shoulder layer that’s black. Meanwhile, the dress underneath is actually a deep forest green, adding a sense of intrigue to the piece. Like Andy, the dress is more complex than it appears.

#2: Emily, Miranda, & Andy’s Runway Charity Benefit Ensembles

Although all three women wore the same color and gown length, they managed to bring a uniquely personal spin to their own look. Andy’s take on the dress code is the most classic, from her lace-lined sleeves to her red lipstick, she looks like an old Hollywood movie star. Miranda’s look is similar, but more dramatic with an off the shoulder neckline and subtle sequin details. Finally, Emily’s dress is the most cutting edge. Unlike the other two, she opts for a tighter fit, spaghetti straps, and more dramatic beading, but it’s what we’ve come to expect from Emily given her love of interesting textures.

#1: Andy’s Makeover Reveal Outfit

Not only did this look mark a major turning point in Andy’s career; it also left a lasting impression on the pop-culture world. As soon as she walked through those clear “Runway” doors, everyone knew that she had become a completely different version of herself. The tailored tweed Chanel jacket, chic Fendi bag, layered gold necklaces, and of course, Chanel boots, all came together to make a major fashion statement worthy of Emily and Serena’s praise. The preppy, feminine, and classically fitted look we see here essentially set the tone for the rest of Andy’s outfits and let us know that she was finally ready to step up to the “Runway” challenge.
