Top 10 Dragons in Yu-Gi-Oh!

Welcome to WatchMojo and today we’re counting down our picks for the Top 10 Dragons in Yu-Gi-Oh!.

For this list, we’ll be looking at the most iconic as well as the most powerful dragons that have appeared throughout the many Yu-Gi-Oh! anime series. We will also include monsters with a draconic design even if they are not technically dragon monsters and we will be limiting it to one dragon per lineage.

Let us know which Yu-Gi-Oh! dragon YOU think deserves a spot on this list in the comments below!

#10: Five-Headed Dragon

“Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters” (2000-06)

The signature monster of the villainous group known as the Big Five, the Five-Headed Dragon, or Mythic Dragon, was considered one of the most powerful creatures in duel monsters. Based off of the goddess Tiamat from Dungeons and Dragons, it possesses an overwhelming 5000 attack points. If that’s not terrifying enough, even if the player summons and powers up a monster to match it, this dragon’s ability only allows for powerful light or divine attribute monsters to destroy it in battle. During the Virtual World arc of the first series, this monster also has the power to destroy all cards controlled by the opposing player once it is summoned. Yet another reason to fear this amalgamated monstrosity.

#9: Firewall Dragon

“Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS” (2017-19)

In Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS, the series introduced a new twist to duels with the addition of Link monsters. One of the strongest link monsters was Firewall Dragon. One of the signature cards of protagonist Yusaku Fujiki, this dragon has the ability to return monsters on the field or in the graveyard to their player’s hand equal to the number of link monsters co-linked to this card. Additionally, if a monster is destroyed and is in the direction of one of the dragon’s four links, Yusaku can special summon a monster from his hand. This dragon can also evolve into a form known as Firewall Dragon Darkfluid, where its power takes on a whole new dimension.

#8: Cyber Dragon

“Yu-Gi-Oh! GX” (2004-08)

Despite not being a genuine flesh and blood dragon, this monster is just as terrifying. A key monster from Zane Truesdale’s deck, this level five monster, can be special summoned without sacrificing any monsters if Zane has no monster and his opponent has at least one. This ability allows him to even the playing field and quickly turn the tables on his opponents. However, Cyber Dragon’s true power lies in its ability to fuse with other Cyber Dragons and other machine-type monsters to create even more powerful mechanical hybrids such as Zane’s signature card Cyber End Dragon. In addition to its immense attack power, Cyber End Dragon can also inflict battle damage by attacking a defense position monster.

#7: Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon

“Yu-Gi-Oh! Arc-V” (2014-17)

With the arrival of a new era of dueling comes an all new method of summoning. In his debut battle, Yuya Sakaki, uncovers the secret to pendulum summoning allowing him to bring forth the mighty Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon. Along with the ability to inflict double damage when destroying a high level monster, Odd-Eyes can also nullify any damage inflicted during a battle with a pendulum monster while in the pendulum zone. However, the true potential of this monster is that it has several powerful forms that can be accessed through Fusion, Xyz, and Synchro summoning. Yuya may love to entertain people, but get on his bad side and he won't hesitate to unleash the full potential of this terrifying dragon.

#6: Red-Eyes Black Dragon

“Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters” (2000-06)

In the original series, this dragon became the signature card of Joey Wheeler who won it after defeating the dino duelist Rex Raptor. Since then, Red-Eyes has become an invaluable ally to Joey and has been the key to helping him achieve many victories. Over time, Joey has learned to unleash Red-Eyes’ full power by using a variety of different transformations such as the Red-Eyes Black Skull Dragon, the Black Dragon Sword, as well as the Lord of Red. While it may not be as powerful as its Blue-Eyes counterpart, the Red-Eyes Black Dragon surpasses it in terms of potential.

#5: Red Dragon Archfiend

“Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's” (2008-11)

When it comes to destructive potential, Red Dragon Archfiend has it in spades. The ace card of turbo duelist Jack Atlas and one of the legendary Signer Dragons, this synchro monster is an invaluable ally in the fight against foes such as the Earthbound Immortals and Meklord Emperors. As Jack grows as a character and fights for the sake of his friends, his dragon also becomes stronger and unlocks even more powerful forms. One of the most devastating being the Red Nova Dragon, a creature born by fusing the power of Red Dragon Archfiend and Red Nova, the strongest of the Earthbound Immortals. Woe to any foe unlucky enough to fight this scarlet king.

#4: Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon

“Yu-Gi-Oh! Zexal” (2011-14)

They say beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but in this dragon’s case, there is only sheer power. Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon is the signature monster of the “Numbers” hunter Kite Tenjo. In addition to its 3000 attack points, this dragon’s ability is designed to counter Xyz monsters. With the ability to remove overlay units, while also increasing its own attack points, it pretty much renders most Xyz monsters useless. When fused with the energy from the Barian World, Kite takes this dragon’s power to dangerous levels by evolving it into Neo Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon. Also known as a “Number Killer,” Neo Galaxy-Eyes makes life utter hell for even the most powerful Xyz monsters.

#3: Slifer the Sky Dragon

“Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters” (2000-06)

As one of the Egpytian Gods, Slifer’s power can only be controlled by a select few, while those unworthy risk being struck down by its wrath. With powers such as gaining strength for every card in the player’s hand, immunity to card effects and the power to weaken or destroy any monster summoned by the opposing player, Slifer is one of the strongest dragons in all of duel monsters. When Yugi summoned this monster for the first time during his fight with Bakura, it was a sure sign that things were about to get intense.

#2: Stardust Dragon

“Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's” (2008-11)

When the going gets tough, Stardust Dragon definitely knows how to make an entrance. Serving as a reflection of its owner Yusie Fudo, this dragon is willing to sacrifice itself to protect its fellow monsters, much like how Yusei is willing to risk his own life for the good of others. It also possesses the most forms out of all the other Signer Dragons such as it’s Accel Synchro form Shooting Star Dragon. It can also take things even further with the power of the almighty Shooting Quasar Dragon. Ultimately, these two monsters, along with Stardust Dragon were crucial in helping Yusei to defeat the immortal Timelords and save the future from certain destruction.

Before we unveil our top pick, here are a few honourable mentions.

The Winged Dragon of Ra

Black Rose Dragon

Gandora the Dragon of Destruction

Supreme King Z-ARC

Rainbow Dragon

#1: Blue-Eyes White Dragon

“Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters” (2000-06)

Even after more than 20 years, the Blue-Eyes White Dragon stands as one of the strongest and most iconic monsters in the series. In addition to being Kaiba’s signature card, this dragon is also part of his very soul. In ancient times, it’s spirit counterpart was considered to be even stronger and had enough power to rival the Egyptian Gods. It can also be fused with two additional Blue-Eyes to become the Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon. A powerful beast strong enough to push back even the likes of the dark god Zorc. During the events of the movie the Pyramid of Light, this dragon obtained a new form known as Blue-Eyes Shining Dragon, a card so powerful it could even kill a god.
