#10: “Dune Popcorn Bucket”

Chasing the viral craze of this theater accessory, “SNL” decides to tackle it with a song. Marcello Hernández and Ayo Edebiri seem to be starting a romance until the surprise twist. They’re both actually devoting themselves to the “Dune” popcorn bucket, giving this hilarious music video some unexpected visuals. Hernández shows off his singing skills while playing up this strange ode to a food container. It’s also a catchy track, with some funny lyrics and references for fans to enjoy. This all leads up to the big finale where the comedian has one more rhyme to entertain audiences.

#9: “Home Videos”

Anyone who’s ever seen “Maury” can appreciate this sketch. When a family watches an old tape, the parents reveal a family scandal that played out on a similar show. Marcello Hernández plays the outrageous man who may or may not be the father. Surprisingly accurate, his performance fills out a skit that’s a fitting tribute to daytime television. The sketch escalates into some ridiculous fight scenes that make for hilarious moments. With the amazing script, it feels like the writers took dialogue verbatim from the original program. Hernández brings this idea to life with his sick moves and even a few fast reflexes.

#8: “Immigrant Dad Talk Show”

As TV hosts and immigrant parents, Joaquin and Hahmed are opinionated about their family members. Marcello Hernández and Ramy Youssef both star in a skit that seems to be told straight from experience. Critiquing their sons and praising their daughters, their characters are openly biased in enjoyable ways. You don’t need to share their backgrounds to appreciate the comedy here. Hernández and Youssef give this script an attitude, swinging wildly between love and anger with ease. The former flies off the handle during a hilarious rant about sons and coffee. Both co-hosts also welcome their neighbor, prompting a funny freakout over different parenting techniques.

#7: “Tiny Ass Bag”

Parodying infomercials about strange products, this particular sketch earns its crazy title. Marcello Hernández and Ego Nwodim play salespeople eager to talk about really small bags. It seems like a useless idea, but that doesn’t stop the presenters from going all-out selling it. Hernández doesn’t hesitate in a segment loaded with hilarious details. From the costumes to Adam Driver, there’s something for everyone to love about this skit. The host shows up in a tiny backpack and later Olivia Rodrigo’s character helps sell the absurd accessories. The entire concept works thanks to the tireless work of this eclectic ensemble.

#6: “Nightclub Line”

As a club promoter, Marcello Hernández vets potential patrons. This simple idea takes a comedic turn as Jason Momoa’s character tries to help. The boss and bouncer offer up very different assessments, making for some hilarious back and forth with the guests. Hernández tries to do damage control as the insults keep flying. His performance is electric, talking up everyone with supreme confidence. He’s a ball of energy as Momoa’s security guy delivers more blunt and funny takedowns. You wouldn’t expect the two performers to be a great mix, but they have complementary styles that make this even more memorable.

#5: “Can’t Tonight”

With a powerful trio at its center, this sketch really pops off. Marcello Hernández plays opposite Kenan Thompson and Ryan Gosling, with the latter performer really getting into the accent. Gosling’s voice is just one highlight of this hilarious skit about friends hanging out. When two try to convince Thompson’s character to go to the club, they run down an amusing list of celebrities. Hernández and the host have great chemistry as they try to keep a straight face. By the time they have to call the dog from “Beethoven,” this premise is off the rails in the best possible way. It’s easy to see this getting a possible sequel in the future.

#4: “Weekend Update: Marcello Hernández on Being a Short King”

No stranger to referencing his height, Marcello Hernández spends this segment talking about the benefits of being short. He enjoys some fun banter with Colin Jost before extolling the virtues of being less than six feet. This includes mentioning the other famous people who share his stature, bringing up a hilarious and diverse list of options. Through it all, Hernández finds a way to diss tall men and bring up the perks of being short. His chemistry with Jost also fuels a funny aside about learning how to dance. Using his background in standup, the comedian clearly shows his talent for personal and observational material.

#3: “Protective Mom”

Bringing his girlfriend home to meet his mother, Marcello Hernández’s character tries to play referee between the two. His mom is played by the hilarious Pedro Pascal in an incredible transformation. The son tries to calm things down, but his mom tries to grill the new partner. The chemistry between Pascal and Hernández is a highlight of the scene, with both performers switching between languages. They even throw in English words into their Spanish dialogue for some funny moments. After things calm down, Chloe Fineman’s guest ends up winning back the host by saying grace. It’s a chaotic and sometimes-relatable sketch thanks to these dedicated performances.

#2: “Spanish Class”

For this “SNL” skit, the transfer students seem to know more than their teacher. This funny premise allows Marcello Hernández and Ana de Armas to embarrass their instructor. It’s immediately clear that the newcomers can speak better Spanish, making for a comedic surprise. Hernández gets some time to shine while also throwing Mikey Day’s character for a loop. Their critiques of the curriculum make for some of the best moments here, showing that they could easily run the class. Karol G even joins in on the fun to help with the lesson. With a multilingual script, the comedian gives viewers knowledge and laughter.

#1: “Weekend Update: Marcello Hernández on Depression in Men”

For this segment, Marcello Hernández finds a way to explore depression with humor. He first discusses his upbringing surrounded by women. Discussing the differences between male and female perspectives, Hernández makes some great points while also making us laugh. The comedian acknowledges that men should support each other more. His comedic personality really comes out here, welcoming audiences for a hilarious trip through his mind. He even offers up some possible solutions such as going to a salon. Without the need for elaborate sets or costumes, the talented performer showcases his unique voice on “Weekend Update.”
