Kicking off our list is Frank Castle, who first appeared in 1974’s Amazing Spider-Man #129. Introduced as a death-loving vigilante that was hired to kill Spider-Man, he was later recast as a standalone anti-hero. Out to get vengeance for the death of his family, he takes it upon himself to punish those who would harm others. Along with his trademark skull logo, he’s distinguished for his use of conventional firearms and brutal violence. No, it’s not just a clever nickname.

This superhero is unique for being a blind ninja. Credited as the man without fear, he first arrived in 1964’s Daredevil #1. Blinded by a radioactive substance as a boy, Matt Murdock in exchange acquired heightened sonar-like senses. A lawyer by day, by night he uses his gift to protect the citizens of Hell’s Kitchen from the scumbags who regularly slip through the cracks of the justice system.

This anti-hero first appeared as the villain in 1991’s The New Mutants #98 before distinguishing himself as a one of a kind character. This disfigured gun for hire no doubt owes his popularity to his unique sense of humor and unstable behavior, giving him the nickname of the ‘Merc with a Mouth.’ Wade Wilson is also one of the few characters to regularly break the fourth wall, addressing the reader directly. And of course, nobody counts his “appearance” in X-Men Origins, Wolverine. Why can’t he talk, that’s the most important part!

While the Fantastic Four team and its members are all iconic, we’ve decided to single out the greatest thing, pun intended. Benjamin Jacob Grimm first appeared along his fellow heroes in 1961’s Fantastic Four #1. Mutated by cosmic rays while in space, his skin turned to orange colored rock, which turned out to be great for clobbering criminals, but not so great for his people skills.

Exploiting the richness of Norse mythology to create a hero unlike any other, Thor finally achieved a mainstream appeal when he portrayed on the big screen by the beefy Chris Hemsworth.

The comic book equivalent of doctor Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, this green anger fueled Gama ray behemoth made his debut in 1962’s The Incredible Hulk #1. The product of a lab accident, Bruce Banner has to keep his cool at all times, or otherwise he becomes this raging creature of limitless strength that likes to smash things. Though a member of the Avengers, his usual exploits involve running from authorities that wish to contain the damage he causes when he falls off the horse.

You won’t find a more patriotic hero in Marvel’s lineup. Debuting in 1941’s Captain America Comics #1, Steve Rogers was a soldier during World World II that was enhanced with super soldier serum and made into a symbol for the free world to rally behind. Best known for his invincible shield, Rogers took on the Red Skull before crashing into the arctic and becoming a Popsicle for several decades. When discovered, he got a warm reception and was made the leader of the Avengers. Cause why be led by a god when you can let an American take charge.

This billionaire playboy philanthropist made his debut in 1963’s Tales of Suspense #39, before overhauling his look in issue #48. Starting out a weapons manufacturer, he had a change of heart after he suffered a severe injury and was kidnapped. Using his know how, he builds incredible suits of armor that he uses to protect the world, both solo and as a major player in the Avengers.

There are countless fantastic X-Men heroes. However the most iconic and popular of among them is an unapologetic Canadian named Logan. Making his debut in 1974’s The Incredible Hulk #181, this regenerating immortal with retractable Adamantium Claws has seen inexplicable amounts of popularity throughout the years. His unshaven look and abrasive persona ensured that he has remained the ultimate badass of the Marvel universe.

Taking the top spot on our list is the friendly neighborhood spider-man, a character that bucked a major trend, namely that teenagers were always stuck playing backup. Peter Parker arrived in 1962’s Amazing Fantasy #15, and his radioactive spider-bite allowed him to not only take on incredible super villains, but also to explore the themes of power, loss and responsibility, all while being a character that was relatable to teenaged readers. this is astonishing. wolverine should not even be top 10. who even is the punisher. the thing def shouldn%u2019t be top 10 either. why is thor so low on the list? captain marvel should most def be AT LEAST top 10. im just flabbergasted. this is sad.
