Kicking off our list is Damon’s role as the eponymous Private Ryan. While he doesn’t appear until two-thirds into the movie, it’s evident from the get-go that Damon is the perfect choice for the part: he carries an everyman quality that perfectly symbolizes each son who goes off to fight a brutal war. Damon’s performance also epitomizes the courage required to battle when he makes a truly heartrending decision.

Damon knows when to hold ‘em and when to fold ‘em.
