Top 10 Moments Anime Fans Will Never Forgive

Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we’re counting down our picks for scenes across anime that sent fans hurtling into a rage - unintentionally or otherwise!
#10: Making Anya Cry
“Spy x Family” (2022-23)
The hilarious and adorable heart of the show, Anya and her mind-reading antics made her an instant hit among fans. Whether it was her overactive imagination, how she tried to navigate between her adopted parents’ deadly professions, or just being the cutest thing in existence – everyone loves Anya. So, imagine what happens when someone goes out of their way to make her cry. After an uppity teacher asks invasive and personal questions about her mother, Anya is left in tears. Granted, the swift revenge that followed courtesy of Loid and Yor going full killer-mode is an utter delight.
#9: Rolo Kills Shirley
“Code Geass” (2006-08)
And this is why nobody likes Rolo. With Shirley’s memories slowly returning, Rolo feared that Lelouch’s identity as Zero was under threat. So naturally he does the obvious…and uses his Geass and leaves Shirley on death’s door. He might have thought he was helping, but given Lelouch’s own attachment to Shirley, whatever justification he may have had, the whole affair is deeply upsetting and seems like a pointless waste of life. Even though Lelouch continued to keep Rolo around to act as his pawn, it was clear he was all too eager to end him. Fans shared his sentiment.
#8: Mocking Mikuru
“The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya” (2006-09)
She may be able to do anything given her status as a god inside the body of a high school student, but Haruhi can also be a bit of an asshole. Case and point, when she went out of her way to mock Mikuru to such an extent it brought her to tears. Rightfully, Kyon wasn’t happy about that and tried to shut it down. Haruhi’s total indignation to the fact she can’t manipulate people how she wishes is borderline evil, hence why Kyon almost knocked her block off. Given how she was so clearly in the wrong here, the fact he’s made to apologise just sucks.
#7: The Great Cuckening
“Digimon Adventure 02” (2000-2001)
Look, we all know shipping wars are stupid at the best of times…but come on, where did Sora and Matt even come from?! The whole first series of Digimon had fostered this sweet relationship between Tai and Sora, so naturally when 02 came around, were were all waiting to see it blossom…and all of sudden, just because Matt’s a rockstar, Tai gets pushed to the side? Not to crap on your taste in men Sora but we can’t help but think you might have forgotten all that development that happened back in season one. Does having the Crest of Courage mean you’re also trapped in the friendzone?!
#6: Rem Gets Remjected
“Re:Zero – Starting Life in Another World” (2016-)
Emilia has really come into her own as a character, and on any given day it would make sense for a random NEET like Subaru to fall for her…it’s just that the relationship he had with Rem was next level. Across numerous timelines, deaths and rebirths, Subaru is brought to his breaking point, and the one who brings him out of that darkness is this adorable oni, encouraging him to make peace with himself. And at the end of such a heartfelt confession…he lets her know he’s still into the elf who had yet to show him any romantic interest. It’s a deep wound that fans have yet to fully forgive.
#5: Joining Aogiri
“Tokyo Ghoul” (2014-18)
The sheer stupidity of this one decision is mind boggling. The original Tokyo Ghoul series was more or less a faithful adaptation that explored the bloodshed and brutality of Kaneki’s transformation into that of a Ghoul, and how it changed him as both a human and a person. Then along came the sequel where they outright assassinated his character by having him join the group of cannibal terrorists responsible for his torture and trauma. Never mind going against the source material, how does that make any logical sense?!
#4: Sasha Gets Blasted
“Attack on Titan” (2013-23)
It’s the albatross that will hang over Gabi’s neck forevermore, at least to fans of Sasha, following her heartbreaking demise during the attempt to evacuate Eren from Marley’s clutches. Amidst the chaos, a vengeful Gabi, a child soldier fuelled by Marlian propaganda, takes her shot by boarding the Survey Corp’s airship…where she proceeds to literally take her shot, killing Sasha in the process. It’s a tragic twist of fate, showcasing the violence born of the hatred and lies polluting both nations.
#3: Arnheid Is Beaten
“Vinland Saga” (2019-23)
As loathsome as it might be to say, when it comes to slave owners, Kettle appeared to be fairer than most. While he was shown to have massive insecurities, at the very least he seemed to treat those who worked on his farm decently, regardless of their status. That is, until the truth depths of his depravity were laid bare. Arnheid’s escape attempt drives Kettle off the deep end, beating her to near death, the thought of losing his obsession revealing just how empty and pathetic a soul he truly is. It’s no wonder so many of us were begging for Canute to come on over and burn the whole farm to the ground after this.
#2: The Eclipse
“Berserk” (1997-98)
No one was prepared for this. Not only was this a major turning point that would go on to define the series forever more, but was an event so hopeless and bloody that by the end of it we lost ninety percent of the cast, while the survivors were left irreparably changed. Following Griffith’s acceptance of the God Hand’s deal, he offers his comrades up as sacrifices for his ascension. And if that wasn’t horrific enough, after becoming a dark deity himself, Griffith takes his spite out on Guts by assaulting Casca before his eyes. There are no happy endings here.
#1: Vegeta's Moustache
“Dragon Ball GT” (1996-97)
To be fair, GT did Vegeta dirty in a multitude of ways, not just the inane decision to give him that infamous bit of face fuzz. He was constantly nerfed, barely a supporting character, and spent most of the series as a vessel for an alien parasite. Though before all of that, there was the moustache – a look that stripped the prince of Saiyan of all regality and made him look like he was a 70s adult film star. Fans practically cheered from the rooftops when he finally shaved it off!
