Top 10 Moments That Made Us Love Sandra Bullock

Top 10 Moments That Made Us Love Sandra Bullock
VOICE OVER: Samantha Clinch WRITTEN BY: Thomas Muzekari
You don't get more lovable than Sandra Bullock. Welcome to MsMojo, and today we're counting down the Sandra Bullock movie and interview appearances that cemented our fandom. Our countdown includes "The Lost City," "The Heat," "While You Were Sleeping," and more!

#10: The Spanx Scene
“The Heat” (2013)

This buddy cop comedy is an under-the-radar gem for Sandra Bullock fans. Playing the high-strung FBI Agent Sarah Ashburn and paired with Melissa McCarthy’s Shannon Mullins, Bullock can really bounce off McCarthy to create some great comedy. In one scene, you can tell Ashburn’s reluctance to let Mullins mess with her clothing is building up to something. The Spanx reveal and their back-and-forth dialogue gives audience members a moment to remember. The scene illustrates how effective Bullock can be as the straight edge in a comedic pairing, one of her specialties.

#9: Holiday Troubles
“While You Were Sleeping” (1995)

This Christmastime rom com came relatively early in Sandra Bullock’s acting career, but it has some all-timer lines. When Bullock’s character Lucy saves the life of a man named Peter, she’s incorrectly identified as his fiancée. However, she starts to fall for Peter’s brother, Jack. We love the sharp and witty one she throws at Jack during a fundamental scene for their relationship. She turns the conversation around on him, making us chuckle but also realize that she truly cares for him — all in a few sentences. That’s some real acting power.

#8: Rock Climbing with Channing Tatum
“The Lost City” (2022)

There’s plenty of different terms for what’s below the belt — some more vulgar than others, some funnier-sounding than others. When Channing Tatum’s character in “The Lost City” is forced to get up close and personal in Bullock’s character’s private area as they’re rock climbing, her reaction is priceless. The physical comedy in the scene combined with how Bullock delivers her make for a laugh-out-loud moment. The camera angles and panting noises also contribute to this humorous scene. All in all, you really can’t watch “The Lost City” — and this scene in particular — without coming away with an appreciation for the actress’ comedic chops.

#7: The Exotic Cheese Story
Interview

Think about an exotic adventure you’ve gone on or one you’d like to go on. There’s a lot of choices. In a discussion amongst “The Lost City” cast members, the film’s leads are asked to share the most exotic adventures they’ve been on. Daniel Radcliffe tells a story about a jungle, Channing Tatum brings up a glacier in Iceland, and Bullock decides to go her own route. This response really showcases Bullock’s likable personality and sense of humor. She comes across as a genuine fan of the simple things in life. Of course, it’s also relatable how much she loves cheese — especially the exotic ones.

#6: The Channing Tatum Roast
Interview

Bullock knows how to troll. She showed that during a co-star test with Channing Tatum. Her serious-yet-endearing tone and overall demeanor make for a well-executed roast. Tatum even looks like he knew it was coming in a way, as he laughs it off and then proceeds to go along with the joke. Still, Bullock’s commitment to the deadpan bit is just too funny. This is one of many instances in which the Academy Award winner demonstrates that she’d be a super fun person to hang out with, because she knows how to joke around and doesn’t take life too seriously.

#5: Walking Piano Chopsticks
“The Jonathan Ross Show” (2011-)

Whether or not you’ve tried a walking piano before, you gotta admit: Bullock makes it look pretty fun. During an appearance on “The Jonathan Ross Show,” Sandra Bullock takes to the keys with Tom Hanks. Even in the presence of an expert, Bullock’s charm shines during the impromptu performance. And rest assured, she can do it in heels. Her smile, animated gestures, and the energy she exudes are infectious. The moment really showcases her charming personality and willingness to be a little silly, just for fun. We’d love to hop around with her and Hanks.

#4: Her Favorite Minion
Interview

How could you choose? In a very Sandra Bullock way, the movie star gave a hilarious response to a question about her favorite Minion. Comparing choosing a favorite Minion to choosing a favorite child is super witty on Bullock’s part. Her sharp humor is an admirable trait that she has displayed on numerous occasions. It’s the word choice here that enriches the comedic flavor of this response. Besides the funny comparison, her insistence that you never ever should pick a favorite Minion suggests maybe she’s thought about this before. And what a sweet sentiment she gives about every Minion’s uniqueness — very respectful to the Minion community.

#3: The Cheeseburger Craving
Interview

Sometimes a particular craving just pops into your head and sticks around, even at a seemingly arbitrary moment. Well, at the Vanity Fair Oscar Party, Bullock was candid about what she was craving. It might not have been the response that the interviewer was expecting, but it was probably a much more entertaining answer. This is such a loveable Sandra Bullock moment because of her honesty and sense of humor. Dressed to the nines and all glammed up, who can blame her for looking most forward to a cheeseburger? It’s a very relatable craving, but the fact that she let it be known encapsulates her genuine, outgoing personality.

#2: The “Get Low” Scene
“The Proposal” (2009)

Margaret Tate might be an uptight, demanding individual, but different layers of her character are revealed as the plot of “The Proposal” progresses. Sandra Bullock leans into the comedy in this rom com, acting opposite Ryan Reynolds, who plays her assistant. After traveling to his hometown, Margaret stumbles upon his grandma doing some kind of ritual in the woods. Things take a turn in a hysterical way. Grandma Annie might have been initially taken aback by Margaret’s rapping, and Reynolds’s character appears just as surprised as us audience members. The humorous moment showed us a new side of Bullock’s character and allowed to actress to flex her comedic chops.

Before we unveil our top pick, here are a few honorable mentions.

Matched His Meet, “Demolition Man” (1993)
Even When the Saying’s Wrong, She’s Got the Charm

The Most Selfish Human Being on the Planet, “Two Weeks Notice” (2002)
Her Character Is Brutally Honest, but Gets a Fair Rebuttal

The Revoked License, “Speed” (1994)
Who Needs a License When You’re Caught in a Rigged Bus Chase?

Her Parents Were Singers, “The Kelly Clarkson Show” (2019-)

#1: The Glide
“Miss Congeniality” (2000)

There’s a host of moments to pick out that made us love Sandra Bullock through her performance as Gracie Hart in “Miss Congeniality.” There’s the relatable don’t-mess-with-me makeover scene. There’s the playful you-want-to-kiss-me scene. But her lessons in walking like a pageant queen take the cake. The scene is Bullock at the top of her charms. To be fair to her, that looks like a glide. And her comment after Michael Caine’s Victor Melling shows her how it’s done is classic. To top off this comedic gem of a scene, she yells at a taxi driver who almost hits her and then continues on her gliding path.
