When it first premiered in the summer of 2017, “Ozark” was unfavorably compared to “Breaking Bad.” This was thanks to a storyline bearing many similarities to the beloved crime drama. But, the show has managed to carve its own path through the TV landscape. In fact, its third season was the best-reviewed yet. Julia Garner won an Emmy for her acting, while the series itself won various awards for writing, editing, and production design. Safe to say the show has finally come into its own, breaking from “Breaking Bad’s” shadow and turning into an exceptional piece of television. We can’t wait to see the fourth season continue the momentum.

It’s been a long time coming, but the third season of “Atlanta” is finally upon us. Created by Donald Glover, this hard-to-define piece of surrealist entertainment has earned consistent critical acclaim. It has won countless industry awards and has been called one of the best shows of the 21st century. Its second season somehow managed to top its first, but it came to an end all the way back in May of 2018. Scheduling conflicts and COVID lockdowns have long delayed production, but the third and fourth seasons were filmed back-to-back in the summer of 2021. We don’t know what Glover has in store for us, but one thing is certain - it will be completely unpredictable.
#7: “Halo”
Ever since 2001, “Halo” has been one of the leading names in gaming. A defining first person shooter, “Halo” and its sequels broke new ground in the popular genre and helped popularize the concept of online matchmaking. And while the series is mostly known for its incredible multiplayer gameplay, it actually has quite an interesting plot. This story will be explored in the upcoming Paramount+ series starring Pablo Schreiber as Master Chief. There is a lot of promise behind this series, including a $200 million budget and the involvement of executive producer Steven Spielberg. “Halo Infinite” is scheduled for release in December, and the TV series will follow shortly after. Suffice to say, “Halo” fans will be plenty busy throughout 2022.

While Netflix’s “The Witcher '' received a lukewarm critical reception, it proved a huge hit for the streaming giant, reigniting interest in the franchise. Capitalizing on its success, Netflix greenlit a prequel series titled “Blood Origin,” which is also based on Andrzej Sapkowski’s book series. The story takes place roughly 1,000 years before the original and will chronicle the creation of the very first Witcher. It will be run by Declan De Barra, a writer who has worked on such shows as “The Originals” and “Iron Fist.” De Barra also wrote the episode “Of Banquets, Bastards and Burials” for the core “Witcher” series. “Blood Origin” promises more imaginative fantasy action, and frankly, we can’t wait to go on new adventures!

A thrilling new addition to the “Star Wars” IP, “The Mandalorian” has earned consistent acclaim since its introduction in November of 2019. The show has incredible talent behind it, including writer and showrunner Jon Favreau. It has also amassed a number of notable directors, including Taika Waititi and Robert Rodriguez. The second season was even bigger than the first, earning widespread positive reviews and multiple Primetime Emmy nominations. The highly anticipated third season began filming in the summer of 2021 with returning cast members Pedro Pascal, Giancarlo Esposito, and Carl Weathers. Favreau is also returning as showrunner, promising even more excitement and adventure in the “Mandalorian” saga.

“Stranger Things” is one of those cultural phenomenons that rocketed straight to the moon and never came down. A massive success, the show earned acclaim for its strong cast, imaginative story, and Spielberg-ian atmosphere (complete with all the monsters, adventure, and government agents one can handle). Although not much is known about the long-awaited fourth season, it will reportedly take place during spring break 1986. What is known, however, is that The Duffer Brothers are returning as writers and directors, as is everyone in the core cast. It also promises a return to the government lab, with chapter seven being titled “The Massacre at Hawkins Lab”. Filming concluded in September 2021, so it’s only a matter of time now...
#3: “Obi-Wan Kenobi”

Thanks to the success of “The Mandalorian,” Disney+ has greenlit a number of new “Star Wars” shows. 2022 will see the release of the “Rogue One” prequel “Andor,” and a new series based around Obi-Wan Kenobi. The series takes place ten years after “Revenge of the Sith” and looks to be seeped in fan service. This includes the return of both Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen, who reprise their respective roles as Obi-Wan and Darth Vader. Joel Edgerton will also star as Luke Skywalker’s Uncle Owen. Using the same StageCraft wall as “The Mandalorian,” “Obi-Wan Kenobi” wrapped filming in September 2021 and will air six episodes some time in the next year. The “Star Wars” franchise is looking to have a great 2022, and so are we!

Set 200 years before “Game of Thrones,” “House of the Dragon” will chronicle the Targaryen civil war as depicted in George R.R. Martin’s “Fire & Blood.” The series contains a winning cast, including Paddy Considine as King Viserys, Matt Smith as Prince Daemon, and Rhys Ifans as Ser Otto Hightower. It is currently filming throughout Spain, California, and England. It is also taking advantage of a new virtual stage that was recently built at Warner Bros' Leavesden Studio. The prequel series promises all the intrigue we’ve come to expect from “Game of Thrones,” and it’s populated by the fan favorite Targaryans. What’s not to love?

The property is arguably the most famous in fantasy literature, with the books selling over 150 million copies. Of course, the movies also grossed nearly $3 billion. Needless to say, hype is extraordinarily high for this Amazon original. The story is set in the Second Age of Middle-earth, a very important time that saw the creation of the rings of power and the rise and fall of Sauron. This is the most expensive TV show ever made, costing Amazon upwards of $1 billion. The company is committed to five seasons, with the first premiering on September 2, 2022.
