Top 10 Most Hilarious Christmas Rom-Coms

Welcome to MsMojo, and today we’re counting down our picks for the funniest, most festive romantic comedies to snuggle up with this holiday season! We’re sticking to rom-coms only, so classics like “Elf” won’t be included here.

#10: “The Best Man Holiday” (2013)

This sequel to 1999’s “The Best Man” reunites a beloved cast of characters with a touch of Christmas spirit. Taking place over a decade after the events of the first film, “The Best Man Holiday” sees protagonist Harper Stewart back with his close group of friends. While celebrating the festive season, things start bubbling to the surface, and it’s not always pleasant. This causes a lot of strain, but it also leads to plenty of laughs. The flick isn’t without its fair share of heartbreak and drama, but it still provides viewers with generous amounts of levity and yuletide joy.

#9: “Love Hard” (2021)

Dating can be challenging at any point in the year. But during the holidays? Well, then it's a whole other ball game. In “Love Hard,” writer Natalie decides to travel across the country to meet Josh, a guy she meets via a dating app. She thinks he’s the one, but her surprise visit takes a turn when she meets him – and he is not who he claimed. The story doesn’t end there, though. She and Josh hatch a plan where she pretends to be his girlfriend. In return, he’ll introduce her to Tag, the man she thought she was connecting with. Hilarity and romance ensue, which results in one of the sweetest, funniest holiday rom-coms in recent years!

#8: “Serendipity” (2001)

Do you believe in fate? You may after watching this Christmas fairytale. A chance meeting in a department store and a pair of gloves bring “Serendipity”’s Jonathan and Sara together. Although they’re with other people, their encounters spark something between them. They leave it up to a bill, a copy of “Love in the Time of Cholera,” and an elevator to determine their fate. Unfortunately, their little experiment separates them and they spend years apart thinking about each other. Before his wedding day, a sign inspires Jonathan to search for Sara, which leads to a magically wintery journey that could only happen in a place like New York City. The whole thing will make you swoon, laugh, and embrace destiny.

#7: “Single All the Way” (2021)

Friends to lovers isn’t a new idea when it comes to the rom-com genre. But “Single All the Way” does it so well, it feels as fresh as a snowfall! In the movie, BFFs and roomies Peter and Nick plan to fake a relationship in order to get the former’s family to stop meddling in his love life. Oblivious to this, Peter’s mom arranges a date for him, which throws a wrench in the scheme, and them for a loop. Comedy ensues as they navigate the tricky situation, while also beginning to realize their true feelings for each other. As if that wasn’t enough, the always hysterical Jennifer Coolidge rounds out the cast, which is the bow on top of an already perfect holiday rom-com.

#6: “Something from Tiffany's” (2022)

Based on a Melissa Hill book, “Something from Tiffany’s” is the ultimate Christmas New York City love story. After her boyfriend gets hit by a car in front of the famed jewelry store, baker Rachel accidentally ends up with an engagement ring on her finger. The diamond belongs to a man named Ethan, who saved her now fiancé’s life. He was originally supposed to propose to his girlfriend with the rock. However, his serendipitous encounter with Rachel ignites a friendship that leads to something more. This is definitely the humorous, romantic cinematic gift that keeps on giving!

#5: “Just Friends” (2005)

“Just Friends” takes place a decade after a declaration of love goes awry, when music producer Chris Brander reluctantly returns to his hometown during the holidays. There, he reunites with his high school crush and bestie, Jaime, who did not share his feelings all those years ago. Becoming chummy once again, old and new feelings form. But it’s not all smooth sailing. One hilarious obstacle is Samantha James, an up-and-coming singer who’s interested in Chris. Played by Anna Faris, she steals the show with her outlandish behavior, off-key vocals, and diva antics.

#4: “Happiest Season” (2020)

They say Christmas is “the most wonderful time of the year,” but that’s not always true for everyone. Determined to get her girlfriend Abby into the spirit, Harper invites her to spend the season with her family. It’s only then that Abby learns that Harper has not come out to them. Stuck pretending to be her roommate, she’s subjected to awkward encounters and uncomfortable situations all while hiding who she really is. Despite the not-so-fun circumstances, “Happiest Season” is a rom-com that manages to tickle your funny bone and warm your heart. Plus, it boasts a knock-out cast including Kristen Stewart, Mackenzie Davis, Alison Brie, Dan Levy, and Aubrey Plaza, who keep both the laughs and Christmas vibes going.

#3: “Love Actually” (2003)

There’s no denying that “Love Actually” is the quintessential Christmas rom-com. A mosaic of love in all its varied forms, the ensemble flick offers something for everyone. Chronicling interconnected stories during the holidays, it’s a modern classic and December must-watch. Hugh Grant, Emma Thompson, Keira Knightley, Liam Neeson, Colin Firth and a slew of other notable greats bring the tales to life, warming our hearts and leaving us rolling in the aisles. A tinsel-filled ode to connection, “Love Actually” proves that laughter — and, well, love — really are all around us!

#2: “The Holiday” (2006)

Ever dream of getting away from it all for Christmas? Well, that’s exactly what Amanda and Iris do in the appropriately titled “The Holiday.” Reeling from heartbreak, the two swap places, lending their Los Angeles and Surrey homes to one another. The changes of scenery spark personal growth, and even some unexpected romance for the women. Amanda falls for Iris’ brother Graham, while Iris falls for Miles, a film composer. We find ourselves giggling and kicking our feet as we watch their journeys unfold. Sweet, entertaining, and endearing, this is a cozy, fun rom-com that feels like a big, warm blanket on a cold winter’s night.
