#10: “Game of Thrones” (2011-)

Until “Game of Thrones,” the worst thing to hear at a wedding was, “I object.” Now, as long as somebody doesn’t say, “The Lannisters send their regards,” the bride and groom should consider themselves lucky. With dialogue that’s practically Shakespearean and kickass one-liners aplenty, it’s no surprise that George R. R. Martin’s creation has worked its way into everyday conversation. If the temperature drops or a major blizzard hits, you can count on at least one meme to announce that “Winter is coming.”

Five words: “Six seasons and a movie.” Virtually every diehard “Community” fan has tweeted this line at some point in hopes that Abed’s prophecy will come true. While a movie may or may never happen, Dan Harmon’s underrated comedy series gave us six seasons of highly quotable dialogue. NBC’s cancelation of the show made fans scream, “Noooo,” but Yahoo’s last minute revival had them saying, “Cool. Cool, cool, cool.” Let’s just hope we get to see the Greendale gang again soon, otherwise this will indeed be “the darkest timeline.”

Yet, the shallow sociopath in us all can’t help but turn to “It’s Always Sunny” when the situation demands it. The show has given us countless great comeback lines like, “I will eat your babies, bitch,” excuses for our physical imperfections like, “I’m not fat. I’m cultivating mass,” and totally obscure lines that are just fun to randomly shout like, “Rum ham!” Always edgy, ridiculous, and hilarious, these writers are “tighter than dick skin.”

Considered by many to be the most ingeniously written comedy series of the 21st century, it should come as no surprise that “30 Rock” made this countdown. Whether Liz’s on again-off again boyfriend is calling her a pet name, Liz is doling out advice, or Jack is giving us insight on how the one percent live, the jokes fly by too rapidly to catch them all in one sitting, so count on watching every episode multiple times. Most significantly, Liz Lemon has given us an arsenal of substitutes for curse words, from “Nerds” to “Blerg.” Way to go, Lemon!

“The Office” has no shortage of hilarious one-liners people still constantly find themselves repeating. What’s interesting is that some of the show’s most quotable lines are actually unoriginal. Although “that’s what she said” has been around for decades, Michael Scott gave new life to this worn out Dad joke. Strangely, the immaturity of this line and much of Michael’s dialogue in general often makes for some deep character development and touching moments. Who would’ve thought “that’s what she said” could encompass such heart, wit, and brilliance?

In the show’s 10-year run, TV audiences came to recognize the cast of “Friends” as family. And why not? Their personalities are so big and their dialogue so memorable that they practically feel real. Plus, they’ve given us a go-to line for almost every scenario imaginable, whether you’re picking up a hot chick, moving a couch, or sharing food. Phoebe, for one, opened everyone’s eyes to the significance of phalanges. However, a word of warning to any struggling lovers out there: never say, “we were on a break.” It almost never ends well.

While Gus Fring is the silent type, he also scores plenty of awesome lines whenever he opens his mouth. As for Jesse Pinkman, he’s pretty much made the word, “bitch,” his own.

It’s hard to think of a comedy that’s given us as many classic running gags and recurring lines, most notably, “I’ve made a huge mistake.” While the whole Bluth family is a riot, it’s Tobias Fünke who steals the best lines, a majority of which can be greatly taken out of context. Of course, we’ll give a shout out to Gob as well. Oh, and remember, “there’s always money in the banana stand.”

What’s the deal with “Seinfeld”? Part of the reason the series has been so enduring is that many of the situations it tackles are so relatable. Every man can thank George for raising “shrinkage” awareness and many women can identify with Elaine’s process of finding a “sponge worthy” mate. Jerry and the gang have contributed countless phrases to the urban dictionary, from “low talker,” to “master of your domain,” and “yada, yada, yada.” Of course there are plenty of bizarre lines too, such as “I don’t wanna be a pirate” and “these pretzels are makin’ me thirsty” and “and you wanna be my latex salesman” that are sure to creep up in everyday conversations, obscure as they may be.
