Top 10 New Songs That Are So Annoying

 
Chun-Li may be a good song for diehard Nicki Minaj fans or for those who are invested in the ongoing relationships and feuds of hip-hop, but for everyone else, this is nothing but indulgent, overproduced, and obnoxious hip-hop. So, a regular Nicki Minaj song, then. The horn-driven beat that blasts throughout the entire song is interesting at first but quickly proves tiresome and annoying, and the song contains some truly embarrassing moments, like a Tony Montana-inspired bad guy speech and this ridiculous line.  Come on Nicki, you’re way better than that.  
 

 
You know, Despacito may not have been on this list if it just came out, sold a few million records, and faded into Latin pop history. But then we kept hearing it. And hearing it. And hearing it. It’s like constantly repeating a word – eventually it loses all meaning. Despacito is certainly a well-constructed pop song' it’s easy to dance to, it’s insanely catchy, and it has that distinctive Latin pop sexiness. But therein lies the problem. It’s a pop song, and pop songs get very, very old very, very quickly. The music video is currently sitting at over five billion views on YouTube. That tells you all you need to know.
 
 
 

 
While Will Smith was always a little corny, he really overdid it with this ridiculous track. Smith sounds exactly like what he is throughout this song – a 50-year-old man desperately trying to recapture his relevancy and cater to the teenage demographic. It’s like your embarrassing dad cranked up to 11. Critics agree that the whole song is an exercise in awful, from the opening “way-ohs” all the way down to the autotuned vocals, offensive Jamaican accent, and cliché electronic music.It’s like Smith listened to one popular EDM song and said, “Yep, let’s do exactly that with no distinctive personality whatsoever.” Only, this song never became popular because it was utter nonsense. 



 
 
 

 
No one is saying that Katy Perry isn’t talented. She has written and sung a ton of very popular and catchy pop songs, and Teenage Dream was a record-setting album, as Perry became the first female artist with five number one singles from the same album. But we don’t know what’s happened. Between this and Bon Appetit, we can’t help but feel that her songs have gotten a little…annoying. Critics were split on Swish Swish, with many singling out the lazy house beat, cliché rap break, and ridiculous voice-altering effects. And really, “swish swish bish?” Come on, now. We appreciate Katy trying something new, but this just didn’t work out.
 
 
 

 
Like Katy Perry, Taylor Swift is a very talented musician who seems to be going in the wrong direction. Every pop artist seemingly has their signature “bad” phase, so Taylor’s just comes across as tired and cliché. Many people also seem to agree that Swift’s personality in the song is a little childish and whiny, not to mention incredibly try-hard. Does anyone seriously buy Taylor Swift as a bad girl? This would be OK if the song itself was decent, but it’s annoying. The hook is weak and lazy, and the constant repetition of “look what you made me do” really gets on the nerves. And really, who didn’t cringe at that ridiculous phone interlude? 
 
 

 
It’s no secret that Imagine Dragons aren’t the most inventive rock band in the world. They aim for the top of the charts with every song, creating safe, catchy arena rock that satisfies as many people as possible. And there’s nothing wrong with that. But damn if Thunder isn’t annoying. It starts well enough but soon regresses into mindless tedium as we hear the word “thunder” repeated about 10,000 times throughout the proceeding three and a half minutes. But hey, this song is playing in stadiums everywhere, so good for them we suppose. The general music-listening public seems to love them, but critics can’t seem to get past their boring and cliché sound.
 
 
 
 

 
We don’t mind a good joke song, but the joke itself has to actually be, you know, funny. Lift Yourself is a nonsensical single from Kanye West, likely a statement directed at WQHT’s Ebro Darden if West’s Twitter is any indication. Darden is an outspoken critic of Kanye West’s political allegiances, and this idiosyncratic gibberish is apparently Kanye’s defense. We don’t really know what he was going for here, but we don’t like it. It’s obviously a joke but hearing West spout nonsense that rhymes with “poop” for thirty seconds is not funny. Not unless you’re, like, 10. But then again, maybe this is next-level art and we’re just missing the point.
 
 
 
 

 
Gummo is a trap song by the eccentric rainbow teeth and hair-colored 6ix9ine. In the age of Soundcloud, where everyone is trying to be the next big artist, it’s clear that people will do anything to get noticed. Not only is 6ix9ine’s physical appearance ridiculous, but Gummo is a nasty song that reeks of generating attention. Critics tend to agree that his vocal style is raspy and unwelcoming, and he cruelly spits out the n-word every chance he can get. It’s like watching a teenager do everything they can to be edgy and get attention. And it’s just as annoying. The critics aren’t falling for it, and neither are we.
 
 
 

 
Mo Bounce was supposed to serve as a comeback of sorts for the Australian rapper, but it was simply too obnoxious to be successful. You get a feeling for the song within the first ten seconds, when Iggy repeats the word “bounce” about a hundred times and adds in some unnecessary swearing to seem cool or tough or something. By the end of the song you may never want to hear the word “bounce” again. It’s too bad, because the rapping that is here is rather respectable, but it’s surrounded by such loud, insufferable hooey that we can’t appreciate it. We don’t think we need any ‘mo’ bounce, Iggy.

Was there anything else that could have been number one? Lil  Gucci Gang is so obnoxious, so repetitive, and so inherently unlikable that it quickly became an internet meme. This song is truly an exercise in patience – if you make it all the way to the end, you deserve a prize or something. Critics of the song point to the lazy bars and Pump’s monotone, emotionless vocal delivery, not to mention the mind-numbing repetitions of “Gucci gang Gucci gang Gucci gang Gucci gang”. Gucci Gang is one of the most bizarre successes of the decade so far – a well-selling single seemingly adored by general listeners but totally detested by critics.
