Script written by Johnny Reynolds Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we’re counting down our picks for the Top 10 Out of Bounds Discoveries in Video Games. For this list, we’ll be looking at the coolest hidden details in video games that players only found by ignoring a game’s barriers. Know of any other cool details discovered this way? #10: Lord of the Pies

“Dragon Age: Inquisition” (2014) Usually, out-of-bounds secrets take a long time to be discovered. But in the case of “Dragon Age: Inquisition,” it happened almost immediately. Shortly after launch, YouTuber LeeCsM uploaded footage of them in the Skyhold fortress. They had managed to fall through the floor into an empty area. Well, empty except for one thing: a giant pie with a top hat and face. After its discovery broke, artist Graham Kelly confirmed it a purposeful inclusion and dubbed his creation the Lord of the Pies. He had hid it under the level, though he hadn’t intended for players to find it by simply falling through the floor. Of all the things we could find underneath a castle, a pie in a top hat is certainly surprising.

#9: Ronald Reagan’s Billboard

“Grand Theft Auto: Vice City” (2002) As “Vice City” takes place in the 80s, it features plenty of nods to the time period. From blaring jams of the decade as you drive to references to the era’s most popular movies like “Scarface.” Most of them are brought to the forefront, but one is extremely well-hidden. In the Ammu-Nation gun shop in downtown Vice City, the wall to the right hides a secret billboard. To find it, you have to get on the counter, use a rocket launcher to access the first person view, and look through the wall. Doing so, you’ll see an image of then-President Ronald Reagan holding a gun, with a target and bullet holes over then-President of the Soviet Union, Mikhail Gorbochev.

#8: Face Your Creator

“Half-life” (1998) Valve’s Gabe Newell has been the face of countless memes, and it appears that all started with the studio's first game, “Half-life.” As Gordon Freeman navigates the C1 A1 map, he’ll come across a large elevator that descends diagonally. Once you’re done riding it, you’re meant to be on your way. But players discovered that if you used a noclip cheat, you could float further down, through the floor, where you’d find a pitch black room in the void. By turning your flashlight on, you’d see the room was plastered wall to wall with pictures of Newell’s face. Why the developers decided to include this, we couldn’t tell you. But it’s definitely one the sillier discoveries in gaming.

#7: Underground Cow

“Call of Duty: United Offensive” (2004) “Call of Duty” features a ton of great out-of-bounds Easter Eggs. We’re particularly fond of the “Lost” reference just outside the boundaries of the Village map in “Modern Warfare 3”. But we’re giving love to the franchise's earliest instance. In the original game, you’d often see bodies of cows on the battlefields, prompting the developers to include a “no cows were harmed” joke in the credits. They included another cow joke in “United Offensive,” the game’s expansion pack. On the Crossroads map, one of the houses holds a secret basement you can only reach by noclipping through a door you’re not supposed to enter. Below is a cow with a giant bell around its neck, safe from the carnage outside.

“Counter-strike: Global Offensive” (2012) Each and every level in “Counter-strike: Global Offensive” is packed with Easter Eggs both large and small. But this one found on the Swamp map is just too cool to ignore. While it isn’t found outside the map’s bounds, it is found out of the bounds the player is supposed to adhere to. As one of the community-created levels, designers BubkeZ and morozov hid their development process within the map itself. By noclipping to reach an inaccessible balcony, you’ll find two computers showing messages between the designers and notes on bugs. Scattered around the area are drink cans, a pizza box, and two “CS: GO” contributor coins. It’s pretty neat they got to hide a bit of themselves in their creation.

“The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt” (2015) Like many players, we still love to gush about how incredible “The Witcher 3” is. CD Projekt Red created an impressive RPG to say the least. If you wanted to pay tribute to the world’s creators, you could in “Blood & Wine,” its final expansion. It just took a little bit of effort and required a PC. In the mountainside village of Touissant, user pippo311lp used a free camera mod to look around the area. On one of the highest surrounding peaks, they found an area they could teleport Geralt to. Sitting here are two pillars with a portrait of the development team in between them. This Easter Egg was seemingly only meant for PC players to discover, but it’s a nice homage regardless.

#4: Outside the Trial

“The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild” (2017) The Trial of the Sword is a pretty tough challenge. With three levels of difficulty, it requires fighting through increasingly tougher waves of enemies. Link only starts with the Sheikah Slate, so you have to collect resources and weapons as you go. Or you could just break the whole challenge entirely. Players have found ways to glitch outside the trial’s boundaries. It’s very tricky to pull off and requires using Stasis on an object to knock Link through a wall. Things are much calmer outside than they are in, with a wide field to roam. Each room is essentially a giant floating cube, and it’s interesting seeing the fabric of how they’re connected. Moreover, using this method allows you to skip most of the trial.

#3: John Romero’s Head

“Doom II” (1994) “Doom II’s” final boss is the Icon of Sin, a massive, goat-like skull embedded in a wall. As it spawns minions, the player must shoot its exposed brain. However, one of gaming’s greatest Easter Eggs is found through a fake wall just underneath it. By enabling a noclipping cheat, you can float into a small room where you’ll find the head of co-creator, programmer, and designer John Romero mounted on a spike. In a neat bit of programming, Romero’s head is connected to the boss; shooting it causes the boss to scream in pain. A hint towards Romero being the actual final boss comes right at the start; the Icon of Sin will say, backwards, “To win the game, you must kill me, John Romero.”

#2: Madness

Call Of Cthulhu Review - Madness or Masterpiece?

“The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim” (2011) Players have made out-of-bounds discoveries of unfinished areas in many games. But the one that endlessly fascinates us is the Mind of a Madman from “Skyrim.” The locale is found in ‘The Mind of Madness’ side quest. Once transported into the quest, some PC players found a detached door outside of the area by using a no collision cheat. The door only leads to an empty house, but when you phase through its walls, you find it sits atop a giant table, with your previous outdoor setting gone. If you actually try to exit through the door, it takes you to an unfinished cave. We can’t make head or tails as to what this was meant to be, so we suppose its name fits.

#1: The Out of Map Ending

“The Stanley Parable” (2013) “The Stanley Parable” is one of the funniest, most clever games of the last decade. It even has a specific ending for all the players that make it out of bounds. The entire concept of the game plays with what the player is meant to do. Right at the beginning, you can use a chair to get on top of a desk and hop out the window. You’ll then be in a blank, white void. However, the narrator will tell you this is actually an Easter Egg and that you didn’t, in fact, break the game. He’ll make funny comments before asking if you’re sick of the gag. Things get even crazier in the “Ultra Deluxe” version if you take the Reassurance Bucket with you…
