Top 10 Overpowered Anime Weapons
For this list, we'll be looking at the weapons in anime that are so devastatingly strong that nine times out of the ten, there's no chance of anyone surviving against them.
#10: Gravitational Beam Emitter
“Blame” (2017)
Sure the recoil has been known to break arms on occasion, but when your living in the middle of a robot apocalypse, it’s a small price to pay. The weapon of choice of Killy, this pistol of the future may not look all that flashy, but the results speak for themselves. Able to release a laser blast that can melt through all matter in a single go, the GBE is truly man’s best friend, at least when he’s got a swarm of Silicon Creatures clamouring towards him.
#9: Divine Axe Rhitta
“The Seven Deadly Sins” (2014-)
You expected another Sacred Treasure to make the list? Who decided that?! The personal weapon of the Lion Sin of Pride, Rhitta is the perfect weapon for putting demons in their place. Not only is it able to match Escanor’s strength and cleave away any who step up to the mark, but when unleashed to its full potential, can channel his immense magical power to the point where all his foes are left as husks under the might of the sun. You don’t mess with All Bright.
#8: Tessaiga
“Inuyasha” (2000-10)
Why give a half-demon dog a bone when you can give him a giant sword made for purging life? A gift from Inuyasha’s father, this sword of destruction has spelled doom for countless members of Naraku’s crew, wiping them out with its unbreakable edge, all the while slowing growing stronger with every foe vanquished. When you’ve got yourself a weapon that that can directly send your enemies to hell, then you know your playing with power! No wonder Sesshomaru was so jealous of it at first, that or maybe it was due to his younger brother having the bigger sword than him.
#7: The Dominator
“Psycho-Pass” (2012-)
The Sibyl System may be the cruel device that left humanity emotional stagnated, but nothing puts fear in the hearts of new age criminals quite like this bad boy. The go to firearms of Enforcers everywhere, the Dominator is judge, jury and executioner all in one. If a person’s emotional state reaches a certain level, this dispenser of violent justice will activate, either paralysing them with a non-lethal voltage or unloading a bolt that turns a target’s body into a bloody buffet. That is not a pleasant way to go…
#6: Legendary Shield
“The Rising of the Shield Hero” (2019)
After seeing what this thing is packing, you’ll think twice about choosing a sword or spear when you log into your next RPG. While still primarily used for defence, Naofumi’s legendary weapon has access to numerous alternate forms that can be switched out on a moment’s notice. This can range from even bigger shields, projectiles, even beasts capable of dispensing poison. While there truly is a shield for every situation, for the truly challenging opponents, the Cardinal Hero can always give into his anger and unleash the ominous Rage Shield when he wants to do some real damage. Just ask the Pope.
#5: Demon-Slayer Sword
“Black Clover” (2017-)
What better tool for a no-magic loser like Asta than one that can eliminate everyone else’s magic? While this hulking mass of metal might look intimidating, where this hellish blade truly shines is how its pint-sized wielder can use it to cut through the most powerful and stubborn of mages, to the point where not even magical nobles like Noelle’s family or tyrants such as Vetto stand much of a chance when Asta gets in close for that final swing and instantly wipes them out. Who needs magic when you can wield this beast of a sword?
#4: Ryujin Jakka
“Bleach” (2004-12)
You can’t become the Captain-Commander of the Gotei 13 without having a zanpakuto that can leave the world in ashes. In the case of Yamamoto, that’s literally the case. Able to summon towers of flame that can annihilate even the strongest of Hollows, Ryujin Jakka is an inferno that cannot be quenched, to the point where not even the Captain of the 1st Division is immune from its destructive embers. If not for some trickery on Aizen’s end, it’s clear that this firestorm would have wasted the Espada no problem.
#3: Spear of Longinus
“Neon Genesis Evangelion” (1995-96)
Turns out that there’s even a magic bullet for giant, sentient, alien robots. An artefact from beyond the stars, this spear may be based in Christian mythology, but there’s nothing benevolent about this EVA-ender, which just so happens to have the innate ability to bypass all AT-Field and skewer any unfortunate god-like beings caught in its path. Even the copies still pack a punch, as shown when Asuka and Unit 02 ended up getting an eyeful when the mass-produced EVAs came a-calling.
#2: Ea
“Fate” Series (2006-)
The King of Heroes may have no end to his treasury full of Noble Phantasms, but by and wide his most prized possession would be the Sword of Ruination, and as you can imagine – it packs quite the punch. Even when faced with something as monumental as Rider’s army, Ea was able to one shot them all, laying waste to all around it. Luckily for all the other Masters and Servants, Gilgamesh’s pride prevents him from using his most cherished weapon on the regular. Good thing too, otherwise they’d be royally screwed.
#1: Death Note
“Death Note” (2006-07)
Write the name of any person on the page, imagine their face, wait a minute, and presto – spontaneous heart attack. Not creative enough for you? Try your hand at manipulating the final moments of their death, make it look like a suicide, take out friends and foes alike by the dozen, slaughter anyone around the globe just to secure yourself the position of God of the New World. All this from one little notebook. In terms of convenience, effectiveness and outright devastation, the Death Note remains unmatched.
