VOICE OVER: Dan Paradis
The Playstation 2 with 155 million units sold was the best selling home console of all time. The first console to use DVD format for storage, and have the ability to play DVD movies. The system completely eclipsed its biggest competitors the Nintendo Gamecube and Microsoft Xbox whom only managed to sell 22 and 24 million units respectively. And was said to be the console that killed the Sega Dreamcast. Join http://www.watchmojo.com as we countdown our picks for the Top 10 PS2 games. Believe us when we say a lot of our own favourites like Jak and Daxter and Sly Cooper, couldn't make the list because of the tough competition.

#10: "Kingdom Hearts" (2002)

Also in:

The Best Music In Kingdom Hearts

You know this list is going to be filled with amazing games when a fan favorite like Kingdom Hearts is the 10th entry. Bringing the unusual blend of Disney and Final Fantasy characters, this action RPG mixed light hearted humor with intense action as you travelled across the various worlds from Disney movies. If the popularity of the original doesn’t convince you, maybe the handful of spinoffs and sequels will.

#9: "Okami" (2006)

One of the most appreciated games on this list, Okami had critical praise but not very good commercial sales, which explains why Capcom ported this game over and over again. Okami is probably the most artistic game on this list as well, making use of cel-shaded graphics and set to a theme of Historical Japanese mythology. Along with gameplay similar to that of Legend of Zelda, if you didn’t try this hidden Gem on the PS2, you can give it a shot on the Wii or Playstation Network.

#8: "Burnout 3: Takedown" (2004)

Dangerous Driving Review - A Burnout In Many Ways

An immense racing game series that’s best known for one thing: Lots. … and lots … and lots of beautiful crashes. The game’s main draw is creating as much damage as possible just for the sake of it, or go to racing at blazing speeds and make your opponents crash instead. Did we mention the game feature cars crashing?

#7: "Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time" (2003)

Also in:

Every Prince of Persia Game Ranked

Technically released first on the PS2 by only a week, The Sands of Time not only proved to be a successful remake that surpassed the original, but also ended being one of the best titles by major developer Ubisoft. Not only that but its one of the few examples where a videogame McGuffin proves to be an iconic Story and Gameplay element without either one feeling forced or tacked on.

#6: "Gran Turismo 4" (2005)

Also in:

All 9 Gran Turismo Games Ranked

We listed GT4 as the best Racing Game ever and we still stand by this decision, mostly because the series hadn’t been bitten by the greedy plague sweeping through the videogame industry known as Microtransactions … yet. Aside from that, GT4 had plenty of features that rival that of 360 and PS3 games, I mean running a PS2 game in HD? That alone is an achievement, hell if every game on our list ran in HD then this video would be too.

#5: "Final Fantasy X" (2001)

Also in:

The 10 HARDEST Final Fantasy Games To Complete

The first long awaited title in the uneven yet beloved franchise, Ten was the first in the series to introduce voice acting, and a much more detailed world rather than a plain overworld map. Going on to sell 6 ½ million copies worldwide, the game went on to spawn a direct sequel in the form of 10-2, And had one of the most emotional endings of the series. … which we’re not going to spoil.

#4: "God of War" (2005)

Also in:

10 Great N64 Games You NEVER Played

Two import rules in the video game world: #1: Do not fuck with Kratos, and #2: Do not fuck with Kratos. This hack and slash action game features one of the angriest video game characters ever, brutally murdering Greek mythical figures with over the top finishing moves and impressive combat mechanics. Not to mention the game had some of the best visuals on the PS2.

#3: "Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater" (2004)

Also in:

The 10 WEIRDEST Moments in Metal Gear Solid Games

The 2nd game is a bit controversial among fans for its bait and switch from Snake to Raiden, But the 3rd game is a solid hit. Snake eater takes place in the Soviet Union during the Cold War with the distinct style James Bond spy film, theme song and all. It notably takes place mostly in a rainforest environment, where you not only have the enemies but the local wildlife to look out for. We hope you like cutscenes though.

#2: "Shadow of the Colossus" (2005)

Also in:

Shadow of the Tomb Raider - Review

The visual and gameplay masterpiece of the Playstation 2, Shadow pits you into an immersive world of breathtaking landscapes and stunning vistas. Inhabiting this realm of muted colors are the lumber monsters known as Colossi, which you have to defeat in mere human size. Made even more immersive by the game’s fantastic soundtrack, Shadow of the Colossus is a true work of art. Before we get to Number 1, lets take a look at the games that didn’t quite make the cut.

#1: "Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas" (2004)

Also in:

The 10 Weirdest Unlockables In Grand Theft Auto Games

Out of the 3 possible contenders we chose San Andreas for it immense world based on the real life US cities, with tons of content to keep you occupied. It should have been Metal gear solid 2 at 1 or 2, I can't argue GTA but MGS2 was fucking revolutionary.
