#10: “Waidmanns Heil”
Liebe Ist Für Alle Da (2009)
The final single from Liebe Ist Für Alle Da,“Waidmanns Heil” is a fine example of Rammstein’s signature style. While the album performed far past expectations, the single’s chart success was cut severely short due to heavy censorship in Rammstein’s native Germany. While the clear meaning of the track is unclear, fans believe it is about either the joy of the hunt or a young man on the prowl for his “prey”. But we’re betting on the latter.
#9: “Mutter”
Mutter (2001)
English for mother, “Mutter” is the first track on our list to show Rammstein’s dark outlook. The track is often referenced to be about some of the band members’ own poor childhood relationships with their mothers. Being featured prominently during the 2001-2002 Mutter tour, it was only performed on a few tours before disappearing from live sets entirely. The track returned once again in 2011 and has become a concert staple ever since.
#8: “Amerika”
Reise, Reise (2004)
A satirical commentary on Americanization, "Amerika" deals with the expanding world-wide influence of the United States. To further show the countries influence, "Amerika" is one of few tracks to feature English lyrics, well at least the chorus that is. During the live performances of this song on tour, band members often ride on a Segway with confetti cannons firing red, white and blue confetti in a parody of a ticker-tape parade.
#7: “Engel”
Sehnsucht (1997)
Do you need an "Engel"? The first single from Sehnsucht, "Engel" will penetrate your ear holes immediately from the whistle intro. With the help of German pop group Bobo in White Wooden Houses, Rammstein made a unique industrial track you can actually dance to. This track was often performed last during live tours due to its elaborate pyrotechnic set-up. Till Linderman would don a pair of angel wings that shoot flames from the tips. Taking the metaphor a little far?
#6: “Feuer Frei!”
Mutter (2001)
Titled after the command to start shooting in German, "Feuer frei!" is a heavy industrial track that will melt your face off, especially if you are too close during live shows. Watch out for the flames. The track is credited as the band's most popular track, gaining worldwide attention after inclusion on the soundtrack for XxX. Although it is nowhere to be found on the band’s greatest hits album Made in Germany 1995–2011, for reasons that have not been explained.
#5: “Ich Tu Dir Weh”
Liebe Ist Für Alle Da (2009)
The second single off of Rammstein's latest album, this track is most known for its ridiculous live performances. Rammstein goes above and beyond with a choreographed fight mid-song that results in multiple large explosions. Due to "Ich Tu Dir Weh"'s sado-masochist content, Liebe Ist Für Alle Da was censored for three months in the band's native Germany, severely effecting the album's overall success. We aren’t surprised as the band decided to release the music video on an adult website.
#4: “Ich Will”
Mutter (2001)
The second single off of Rammstein’s Mutter, “Ich Will” is a pulse pounding track that will sure get you ready to rock out. As one of Rammstein’s most popular hits, you know it will have its fair share of troubles. Following the common theme of censorship on this list, the music video for “Ich Will” was not aired due its release date, which was the night of the September 11th, 2001 terrorist attacks. The title, which in English translates to “I Want”, sets up the propagandistic nature of the song.
#3: “Mein Herz Brennt”
Mutter (2001)
"Mein Herz Brennt" first appeared as the opening song to the band's third album Mutter in 2001, and was used as one of the opening tracks for concerts during that era. The track's popularity skyrocketed after its 2011 re-release on Rammstein's greatest hits album Made in Germany 1995-2011, expanding its influence to fans all around the world. While the track's meaning is left to interpretation, the band has mentioned that it is in fact about handling nightmares. Time to go to sleep.
#2: “Sonne”
Mutter (2001)
Originally written as an entrance song for Ukrainian professional boxer Vitali Klitschko, "Sonne" was ultimately released as the first single from Rammstein's third album Mutter. Another example of the band's dark humor, the music video features the band members portraying the seven dwarves as they mine gold for Snow White. Being featured heavily in pop culture, the song has found its way into films and TV, bringing a whole new audience to the band’s impressive discography.
Before we unveil our top pick, here are a few honorable mentions.

Reise, Reise (2004)
“Bück Dich”
Sehnsucht (1997)

Reise, Reise (2004)
“Reise, Reise”

“Rosenrot”
Rosenrot (2005)
#1: “Du Hast”
Sehnsucht (1997)
Should have figured this one out. After the track’s inclusion on The Matrix soundtrack “Du Hast” became a worldwide hit and is often the track most easily recognizable with Rammstein. The track immediately became a concert staple, being played on every concert tour since its 1997 release. The live performance is normally longer than the studio version and often accompanied by Rammstein’s signature pyrotechnics show, with rockets being fired right over the audience’s head. Even years after it release, Rammstein fans can’t get enough.
