Top 10 Human vs Robot Fights in Movies

Whether aliens are knocking down your door or evil robotic overlords are shoving you around, you’ll need some heavy artillery to fight them off. Welcome to WatchMojo.com, and today we’re counting down our picks for the Top 10 Robot Suits in Movies. For this list, we’re including robot suits or powered exoskeletons that enhance a wearer’s abilities or that a character uses for protection. This means giant robot mecha like the Jaegers in “Pacific Rim” have been excluded.

#10: Cybersuit “Star Kid” (1998)

Don’t remember “Star Kid”? That’s ok, barely anyone does. Bullied kid Spencer Griffith stumbles upon an alien super suit that grants its wearer strength, speed and all kinds of deadly abilities. Because that’s exactly the kind of thing an oppressed seventh grader needs. Luckily for everyone but his bullies, Spencer also uses the suit to fight off evil alien bad guys and theoretically, we’ve all learned a valuable lesson by the end of the family film.

#9: Delta-6 Accelerator Suit “G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra” (2009)

Apart from offering great opportunities for one-liners, the Delta-6 Accelerator suit grants its wearer superior strength, speed and agility. Much like the always imitated but never replicated “Iron Man” suit, it boasts wrist-mounted mini-guns and rocket launchers as well as a useful onboard computer system that reacts conveniently to the wearer’s thoughts. So how could these suits from “G.I. Joe: The Rise of the Cobra” not make this list?!

#8: Silver Samurai “The Wolverine” (2013)

In what many consider to be a slight deviation from the source material, the Silver Samurai is now a giant robotic suit controlled by an evil old guy. It’s got all the tech one might expect for a giant robot suit, including super strength and speed and even a nifty Katana that slices and dices the most pesky mutants. Mech suits are all the rage for today’s cinematic comic book villains and this one was especially impressive.

#7: Combat Jackets “Edge of Tomorrow” (2014)

When the confusingly named Mimics arrived on earth, mankind didn’t stand a chance until these battle suits were created to help soldiers in combat. When used properly, it can do all kinds of things. The “combat jacket” increases the wearer’s reflexes and strength and shoots all manner of bullets and missiles. Sadly, all these stylish apps are completely useless unless you have the convenient ability to relive the same day over and over again.

#6: Exo-Suits “Elysium” (2013)

Matt Damon proves he can be just as badass in an enhanced super suit as he can just being Matt Damon. In the sci-fi action thriller, he fights through mercenaries and androids in order to find a cure for his slow but fatal disease. The exoskeleton does pretty much whatever the other entries on this list do, but unfortunately it is also directly connected to the user’s brain, which can cause any number of drawbacks and is a bit of a hassle to put on. Regardless, Max – and the movie – wouldn’t be the same without it.

#5: Amplified Mobility Platform “Avatar” (2009)

There’s no better way to wage colonial warfare against giant blue aliens than with a good ol’ mech suit. Those peace-loving hippies will never know what hit ‘em when these marines roll in. Complete with giant bullets, giant missiles and even giant knives, the AMP suits in “Avatar” are designed with only one purpose: total eradication. The catch is that everything on Pandora seems intent on protecting their mother planet and is deadly to boot.

#4: Armored Personnel Unit “The Matrix Revolutions” (2003)

Hiding out underground from horrifying machine overlords? Then you need the latest in post-apocalyptic warfare. The APUs are the last line of defense when it comes to protecting Zion in “The Matrix Revolutions.” Even though they’re torn apart almost instantly and Neo manages to save the whole free world without having to physically do anything, it’s still cool to see giant machines fight other giant machines piloted by tiny people.

#3: Bio-Suit “District 9” (2009)

If aliens know anything, it’s super-advanced warfare. Their mech suits, more commonly known as mech prawns, completely encapsulate the wearer while offering all manner of defensive and offensive weapons. It includes a bigger version of the already deadly ARC gun as well as missiles, machine guns, electrified metal spikes and a useful magnetic field that catches any projectiles and sends them right back at your enemies.

#2: Iron Man Suit “Iron Man” franchise (2008-)

Top 10 Iron Man Armors

It flies, it shoots missiles, it can lift tons of weight and it comes in a variety of very easily destroyed models. When Tony Stark crafted the first Iron Man suit, it barely got 3 feet in the air before it exploded impressively. Since then, many different versions have been created that can do a number of different things, even go into space. Not to mention it’s as cool and sleek as Tony Stark himself – who wouldn’t wanna wear one? And War Machine’s suit wasn’t so bad either. Before we unveil our top pick, here are a few honorable mentions: - Shredder’s Robotic Samurai Suit “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” (2014) - Rhino-suit “The Amazing Spider-Man 2” (2014) - United Citizen Federation Battle Suit “Starship Troopers 3: Marauder” (2008)

#1: Power Loader Exoskeleton “Aliens” (1986)

Top 10 Power Couples in Disney Movies

Is your planet suffering from a pesky alien infestation? Then you need to go to the source of the problem and root it out. But don’t go alone; you’ll also need some heavy muscle. And after an hour and a half of shooting fruitlessly at these things, guns just won’t cut it. This means you’ll need the granddaddy of all movie mechs: The Power Loader Exoskeleton. It might not be as quick and refined as its descendants, but the exosuit cargo-loader definitely gets the job done, as was effectively demonstrated by our heroine, Ellen Ripley, in the “Alien” sequel. Do you agree with our list? What’s your favorite robot suit in movies? For more action-packed Top 10s published daily, be sure to subscribe to WatchMojo.com.

I'm surprised Iron Man isn't #1. It should've been.
