Welcome to MsMojo, and today we’re counting down our picks for the greatest moments from Bikini Bottom’s famous squirrel: Sandy Cheeks. Let us know in the comments which Sandy Cheeks moment was your favorite!

#10: Nuts at the Krusty Krab

“Hot Crossed Nuts”

Everyone knows what the staple item is at the Krusty Krab. It’s the krabby patty, of course. In this episode, though, Sandy brings her squirrel diet to the Bikini Bottom’s most iconic restaurant. At first, SpongeBob is clearly reluctant to try her homemade barbecue nuts inside the Krusty Krab, seemingly worried about how Mr. Krabs would react. But after Krabs gets the same Texas heat enjoyment that SpongeBob did, he hires Sandy to whip up some smokin’ barbecue nuts for the customers. And they love it, so much so that Krabs makes it the featured item, replacing the krabby patty. Who would've imagined that? Although extremely short-lived, Sandy’s homemade snack certainly makes its mark.

#9: The Waterless Tea Party

“Tea at the Treedome”

SpongeBob is no different from his fellow Bikini Bottom sea critters in the sense that he needs water. But, after recently having met him, it doesn’t seem Sandy has gotten the memo. Early in the series, Sandy invites SpongeBob over to her tree dome home for some tea so that they can get to know each other. The problem is, being a squirrel, her home is a landlike bubble. What’s hilarious about this scene is just how long it takes for Sandy to realize that SpongeBob desperately needs water. After Patrick enters the sea creature death bubble of sorts, she finally gives them what they need. This moment is pivotal in shaping the show’s relationship dynamics between Sandy and her sea creature friends.

#8: Stupidity Virus

“Squirrel Jokes”

It can be tough being the only land animal in Bikini Bottom. There’s perhaps no time throughout the series where Sandy faces as much prejudice and disrespect as she does in the “Squirrel Jokes” episode. It all starts after the Krusty Krab introduces a nightly comedy event. SpongeBob bombs at first, but when he pokes fun at Sandy, he notices the crowd turn in his favor. So, he takes the squirrel jokes even further. SpongeBob, soaking in the popularity, keeps making squirrel jokes even after Sandy asks him not to. During this challenging time for Sandy, others make fun of her while she’s out in public. She then delivers an awesome line about the spread of stupidity. Talk about a quotable moment.

#7: The Search Party

“Prehibernation Week”

Extreme sports can, in fact, get a little too extreme. This is the case for SpongeBob after Sandy and he participate in various dangerous activities together before it’s time for Sandy to go into hibernation. In this episode, Sandy shows us what a good friend she is. First, she’s just trying to have some competitive fun with her sponge buddy. But, things go awry when she finds SpongeBob’s clothes, but he’s nowhere to be found. Sandy then immediately calls for a search party. She searches and searches, and destroys and destroys, until she finally finds her friend. And, of course, she wants SpongeBob to get right back on the horse. This sequence exemplifies the type of friend Sandy is.

#6: The Sea Creature Rescue

“Pressure”

Sea creatures and land creatures are different. That’s just the way it is. But when Sandy and her sea creature counterparts get into a debate over who’s superior, things go south. The episode involves a test to see if SpongeBob, Patrick, Squidward, and Mr. Krabs can remain on land for a full minute. They do, but at the expense of getting attacked by seagulls. Sandy, though, emerges from the water to beat up the birds and save her friends. This is a great Sandy scene, especially given the context of their sea animals vs. land animals argument. After she rescues them, she and SpongeBob share a nice apology moment as well, while putting their differences aside.

#5: The Hibernation Attack

“Survival of the Idiots”

How Sandy gets so big during hibernation, we don’t know. But SpongeBob and Patrick see for themselves why it’s best not to disturb her during the winter. After the two horse around in the snow with a role playing game, their loud noises awaken Sandy. She then brutally tears Patrick’s starfish head, as she towers above him with burning rage. It escalates from there. The scene ends with snow falling around the gravestones of Dirty Dan and Pinhead Larry. Sandy going rogue is one of the most memorable scenes of the entire series. We think SpongeBob and Patrick learned their lesson. Let her hibernate in peace.

#4: Karate Sauce

“Karate Choppers”

Who doesn’t like a bit of competition? Sandy certainly does, and she puts that on full display during the “Karate Choppers” episode, in which she practices karate against SpongeBob. At one point, she uses a rather non-traditional karate move. After yanking SpongeBob’s tongue, she pulls out a bottle of hot sauce. What follows is a legendary moment in which the face of the man who voices SpongeBob appears on the hot sauce drop. After SpongeBob surrenders to Sandy, she proceeds to chug the bottle. But the fight’s not over, or so SpongeBob thought. This Sandy moment is even more notable given that her karate jousts with SpongeBob play a significant role in his temporary firing from the Krusty Krab.

#3: The Alaskan Bull Worm

“Sandy, SpongeBob, and the Worm”

After the feared Alaskan bull worm becomes the talk of the town, Sandy volunteers to take it on. She sure is brave. But, in this case, Sandy doesn’t quite know what she’s getting herself into. SpongeBob tries to convince her to reconsider, but she has her mind firmly set on defeating the beast. Later in the episode, thinking she’s done that, SpongeBob explains that all Sandy did was beat up the worm’s tongue. The Alaskan bull worm happens to be much bigger than she anticipated. Sandy’s ensuing reaction as the screen displays the full size of the enormous worm is an awesome moment in the series. That’s then followed by a classic chase scene in which Sandy ends up saving herself and SpongeBob.

#2: SpongeBob & Sandy’s First Encounter

“Tea at the Treedome”

How could we not include where it all began? After SpongeBob sees a squirrel fighting a clam, he cheers on the land animal and then tries his best to help when he notices she’s in trouble. Clearly the squirrel’s karate skills are far superior to SpongeBob’s. After she kicks the clam into oblivion, the two bond over their love of karate. That’s when SpongeBob, as well as we audience members, meet Sandy. SpongeBob responds to Sandy breaking a massive rock with a unique, and perhaps unexpected trick of his own. From there, it’s evident that a friendship has formed and that Sandy would go on to be an important character in the series.

#1: The Decision Between Bikini Bottom & Texas

“Texas”

Sandy is a proud Texan. So it’s only fitting she’d get homesick at some point in the series. It reaches a point where she’s ready to leave Bikini Bottom and head home. In fact, she’s already on the bus when Patrick’s Texas insult prompts her return. SpongeBob and Patrick continue badmouthing her home, so Sandy angrily chases after them. At this point we don’t know whether this means Sandy is staying in Bikini Bottom or her departure has simply been delayed. But after she reaches the Krusty Krab, she finds her fellow Bikini Bottom citizens waiting for her with a party. What follows is one of the series’ most heartwarming moments. Sandy explains what home really means and decides to stay in Bikini Bottom.
