Top 10 Best Scooby-Doo & Shaggy Moments
#10: Scooby Runs Away
“A Pup Named Scooby-Doo” (1988-91)
This show followed the aged-down members of the Scooby gang, including little Scooby-Doo. When he excitedly seeks out the attention of his friends on a rainy day, no one will give him time of day. Even Shaggy gets cross with him! Feeling lonely and unwanted, Scooby then takes off by himself. Meanwhile, a strange woman in a lab coat sets her sights on the pup, specifically to acquire his head. It’s not long before everyone realizes he’s missing and Shaggy becomes distraught. Thankfully, they’re all reunited before Scooby can lose his head or any other body part. There are a few great moments showcasing the pair of BFFs in this episode, including their reunion, Scooby’s attempt to save Shaggy, and the episode’s conclusion when they’re back to being best buds.
#9: Anything for a Scooby Snack
“Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!” (1969-70)
The Scooby-Doo franchise has given us some fantastic catchphrases over the decades including “Jinkies,” “Zoinks,” and of course, “Scooby-Dooby-Doo!” But one of the most quotable is the very important question: “Not even for a Scooby Snack?” Since the original television series, Scooby snacks have been the go-to incentive to get the titular canine, and sometimes his human companion Shaggy, to do any mystery-solving in particularly spooky settings. The notoriously cowardly duo often need a boost of confidence in those situations and these treats always do the trick. The incentive is frequently offered up throughout every iteration but we’ll always have a soft spot for the early days.
#8: Chowing Down with Barry Allen
“Scooby-Doo and Guess Who?” (2019-21)
In this episode of “Scooby-Doo and Guess Who?”, we find out that Shaggy and Scooby love going out to eat with their friend Barry Allen. Of course, they’re completely oblivious to the fact that he’s actually the Flash. Since the trio all have unique nutritional needs, it just makes sense that they’d get along so well. When Shaggy and Scooby’s commitment to sleuthing with Mystery Inc. keeps interrupting their meals, the speedster begins solving the gang’s mysteries in record time. Fred, Daphne, and Velma aren’t thrilled that the Flash has basically taken over their cases. However, Shaggy and Scooby appreciate the help seeing as it frees up more time to enjoy all the food the world has to offer.
#7: Scooby & Shaggy Quit the Gang
“Be Cool, Scooby-Doo!” (2015-18)
As we all know, Scooby-Doo and Shaggy Rogers are the scaredy cats of Mystery Inc. And since they’re often used as bait for the various villains they come across, it’s no surprise they eventually get fed up. Demoralization has them saying sayonara and even finding replacements for themselves. The only problem is that their replacements have no idea how to fill their roles, exactly, so the original duo sticks around to help train them. By the end, Shaggy and Scooby luckily come to realize just how irreplaceable they are. Despite the conflict of this episode, it’s sweet that the two best pals were in it together.
#6: Hypnotizing the Ghost Clown
“Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!” (1969-70)
In one of the most popular episodes of the original series, the gang finds themselves investigating an allegedly jinxed circus. They’re told that a “ghost clown” is on the loose sabotaging different acts. Unfortunately for poor Scooby, he’s the first to fall under the Ghost Clown’s hypnotism which compels him to attempt and impressively accomplish a terrifying highwire act. Shaggy and Velma save him and, soon, he’ll have to do the same for Shaggy. Surprisingly, it’s Shaggy’s idea to trick the clown into putting himself in a trance, leading to his capture and classic unmasking. This is just one of the early episodes that proved these two were a lot braver than they appeared to be.
#5: A Dog & His Human
“Be Cool, Scooby-Doo!” (2015-18)
The role of talking animals in a human-centered piece of media is always a bit uncertain. In the case of Scooby, where he still walks on four legs and has limited speech but is also clearly above the intelligence of an average animal, the zone is very gray. Even though he’s a valued member of the gang, his human companions often refer to him as their dog. This comes up in the episode “Game of Chicken,” when a park ranger suggests putting him on a leash. Of course, there’s immediate pushback. But Shaggy makes the mistake of claiming ownership over his dog, which Scoob does not appreciate. Throughout the episode, Scooby punishes him by trying to buddy up to other members of the gang. But this only proves that no one gets him like his human, Shaggy.
#4: Defeating the Gluten Demon
“Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated” (2010-13)
In “Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated,” the gang goes up against plenty of human and supernatural antagonists in their town of Crystal Cove. One such threat appears in season 2 when a Gluten Demon goes on a gluten-eating rampage. While everyone else occupies themselves with mystery-solving and trap-setting, Shaggy and Scooby’s job is to devour all the gluten around town. When it can’t be captured by a trap, the canonically hungry foodies take the Gluten Demon down in an epic battle. This monster was uniquely suited to Shaggy and Scooby and it’s one of those awesome times they took it upon themselves to save the day.
#3: Masters of Disguise & Distraction
“Be Cool, Scooby-Doo!” (2015-18)
As we’ve seen over the decades, Scooby-Doo and Shaggy are no strangers to silly costumes. But the very underrated series “Be Cool, Scooby-Doo!” uses their knack for trickery as an amazing running gag. When they’re fleeing from a monster, as they regularly do, Scooby and Shaggy temporarily set their fear aside and don disguises. They put on elaborate skits to distract said monster, transforming into everything from a sitcom couple to directors to hipster musicians. These impromptu scenarios never fail to throw the villain off, so much so that they get caught up in the ruse. We live for their hilarious delayed realizations…as well as the chaotic duo’s ever-creative get-ups.
#2: Shaggy Chooses Scooby Over Velma
“Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated” (2010-13)
While fans praised “Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated” for its darker tone and serialized storytelling, one aspect they did not like was Velma and Shaggy’s toxic relationship. Velma tried to change Shaggy into someone he was not, and Shaggy kept their romance a secret from his best friend. Naturally, Scooby is hurt when he finds out. Velma is frustrated that Shaggy isn’t completely focused on her, so she gives him an unfair ultimatum. But when Scooby gets wrongfully detained for a violent attack, his BFF doesn’t hesitate to do whatever it takes to rescue him. The harrowing situation makes Shaggy’s decision obvious and although Velma’s heart gets broken, we know that nothing will ever come between the iconic pair. Shaggy and Scoob forever.
#1: Rocking Out with the Hex Girls
“Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated” (2010-13)
When Crystal Cove’s local ska band, Rude Boy and the Ska-Tastics, seemingly returns from the dead, their music puts everyone into a zombie-like stupor, compelling them to dance. Velma, Daphne, and Fred fall under its influence but Shaggy and Scooby are immune, leaving it up to them to save everyone from the zombie dance infection. They wisely enlist the help of the Hex Girls, the fan-favorite trio first introduced in 1999’s “Scooby-Doo! and the Witch’s Ghost.” As the bands battle it out on rooftops, the Hex Girls are briefly overpowered. But it all ends with a “Scott Pilgrim”-like beatdown with Shaggy and Scooby absolutely shredding on guitars. Not many can say they defeated magical music by rocking out.
