#10: Xena
“Xena: Warrior Princess” (1995-2001)
What’s hotter than a princess? A warrior princess. Portrayed by gorgeous New Zealander Lucy Lawless, Xena is fierce and powerful, capable of taking on pretty much any challenge and looking DAMN good while doing it. Though the writers originally intended to kill the character off at the end of her three episode appearance on Hercules, Xena resonated with viewers in ways they clearly never expected, and rather than the axe, she got a spin-off! Forget the damsel in distress; Xena proves that independence and empowerment are infinitely more attractive. Worshipped by straight men, embraced by many in the LGBTQ community and serving as the inspiration for countless Halloween costumes - Xena’s appeal is undeniable.
#9: Jessica Hamby
“True Blood” (2008-14)
With alluring red hair and an enticing smile, we figure most guys are willing to look past the fact that she’s a vampire if it means there’s a chance for a second date. Sure, the first human she fed on died, but hey, who hasn’t made a mistake or two? At the end of the day, vampires are undeniably sexy, and even in a series full of bloodsuckers with model good looks, Jessica stands out. Though she may have had a Christian upbringing, she has no issue with partaking in sins of the flesh, so to speak. Case in point, when she dresses as Little Red Riding Hood. Need we really say more?
#8: Audrey Horne
“Twin Peaks” (1990-91; 2017)
Making our way back to the early ‘90s and delving into cult classic territory, the next entry on our list is none other than the glamorous and sophisticated Audrey Horne. In this David Lynch series, very little is straightforward and much of the original series left viewers scratching their heads. One thing was perfectly clear however… the stunning good looks and undeniable sex appeal of this character. The daughter of wealthy businessman Benjamin Horne, Audrey has some issues - hitting on Agent Cooper despite still being in high school being one of them - but she is also intelligent and brave, uncovering a drug and prostitution ring. Sexy, confident and capable - she’s got the whole package.
#7: Alex Parrish
“Quantico” (2015-)
Played by the charismatic and lovely Priyanka Chopra, Alex Parrish may be one of the most beautiful female characters on television, but don’t underestimate her. An FBI-turned CIA agent, Parrish could take you down before you knew what was happening and do it without breaking a sweat. Whether she’s just finished an intense training session, or you know, thwarted an international terrorist plot, she always manages to look great. Parrish is yet another example of how tough and sexy go hand in hand to wonderful results - but make no mistake… she’s one of a kind.
#6: Amy Pond
“Doctor Who” (2005-)
Another redhead, another character we can’t stop daydreaming about. Played by Karen Gillan, Amy Pond was a companion of the Eleventh Doctor, but she did much more than serve as his question-asking Dr. Watson. Her sassy and funny personality was the perfect complement to the Doctor, and their constant flirting, even with her husband along for the ride, made their relationship all the more enjoyable. Her lovely Scottish accent only increases her attractiveness, and there’s just something about her plaid shirts that viewers can’t get enough of. She feels like the girl next door all-grown up, and in this case, the girl next door grew up to be gorgeous and strong-willed.
#5: Olivia Pope
“Scandal” (2012-)
Played by the gorgeous Kerry Washington, Olivia Pope is one of the most popular characters on television in the 2010s, and certainly one of the sexiest. A crisis manager who runs her own firm in Washington, D.C., Pope is extremely bright and able to deal with pretty much any situation you throw at her. She’s also a style queen. Whether it’s a business suit, a ballroom dress, or just a casual pair of jeans, Pope always looks the part and grabs the attention of everyone in the room - both within the show and living rooms around the world.
#4: Maggie Greene
“The Walking Dead” (2010-)
Honestly, for the post-apocalypse, the world of the Walking Dead has a remarkable amount of sex appeal. The strong, sword-wielding Michonne very nearly made the cut, but it’s her fellow survivor that ultimately took the spot. Intelligent, brave, caring, and beautiful, Maggie is the entire package. Although spending years in a wasteland surrounded by zombies has made her colder, she somehow manages to retain her kind personality - focusing on building a life in the new world rather than simply trying to survive it. Even covered in dirt, with her captivating smile and tomboy outfits, Maggie is one of the sexiest characters on television.
#3: Daenerys Targaryen
“Game of Thrones” (2011-)
Somehow, the Mother of Dragons seems to get hotter every season, despite the fact that her character has been through more than her fair share of highs and lows. While she began the series a shy and timid girl, she has grown into a powerful leader, and can be ruthless or kind depending on what the situation calls for. With her long, white-blonde hair and outfits that leave just enough to the imagination, it’s no wonder that so many characters on the show have fallen for her. She’s so hot... not even fire can burn her! Sorry… we couldn’t help ourselves.
#2: Diana Prince / Wonder Woman
“Wonder Woman” (1975-79)
There isn’t enough time to say everything we should about the OG of gorgeous superheroines. Played by Lynda Carter, who had already been named Miss World America before the show started, Wonder Woman is drop dead gorgeous. With her long brown hair, toned body and costume that shows more skin than it covers, Diana’s looks lead us to suspect that many of the men she rescued purposefully put themselves in danger just to have a chance to meet her. And yet, somehow, she’s just as sexy when she’s Diana Prince, perfecting the alluring librarian look, complete with the hair bun, big glasses and infectious smile. And we haven’t even mentioned her powers!
Before we unveil our number one pick, here are a few honourable mentions:
- Buffy Summers
“Buffy the Vampire Slayer” (1997-2003)
- Lois Lane
“Smallville” (2001-11)
- Kate Austen
“Lost” (2004-10)
#1: Joan Holloway
“Mad Men” (2007-15)
Gentlemen may prefer blondes, and there’s no denying how gorgeous Betty Draper is, but it’s the office redhead from Mad Men that takes the top spot on our list. Bold, sassy, and intelligent - Joan garners a lot of attention from the men in the advertising business, and with good reason. From her perfectly kept red hair to her tight dresses that show off her sultry curves, which she accentuates with an awe-inducing walk, it’s easy to see why women want to be her and men want to be with her. Marilyn Monroe, eat your heart out.
