Let's just say you won't be too surprised to hear these songs on our list. Welcome to WatchMojo.com, and today we'll be counting down the Top 10 Songs on Spotify That Have Insane Plays.


For this list, we're looking at songs that have been streamed millions or even billions of times on the Swedish streaming platform. Spotify claims to have more than 100 million active users from around the world, so we'll be mainly focusing on the top plays globally.  

#10: “Cheap Thrills” (2016)

Australian singer and songwriter Sia Furler's catchy track with Sean Paul topped the charts in the summer of 2016. However, the song was even more successful on Spotify with Sia as the solo artist. When Furler teamed up with the  Jamaican rapper, the remix raked in approximately 200 million plays. Not only did ‘Cheap Thrills’ become Sia’s first number one on the US Billboard 100 List, it was also streamed more than 700 million times on Spotify. The song also made the 2016 list for Spotify’s top five most streamed tracks globally.


 

#9: “Starboy” (2016)
The Weeknd feat. Daft Punk


The highly anticipated 2016 album ‘Starboy’ by Canadian artist The Weeknd didn’t disappoint fans. From the first week of the album’s release, the hit track ‘Starboy’ continued to skyrocket in the charts. Teaming up with electronic duo Daft Punk, he created an R&B and electropop song that was streamed more than 800 million times on Spotify. SB [The resulting success was recognized by  Spotify in late 2016 for breaking the record for the most streams in a day. From there, ‘Starboy’ slowly made its way into Spotify’s Most-Played All-Time updated playlist.



#8: “Hello” (2015)

After a three year hiatus from releasing new music, Adele's first new single turned into a worldwide sensation.   ‘Hello’ premiered before her  2015 album ‘25’ was released, and the heartfelt piano ballad reached more than 700 million streams on Spotify. The singer initially chose to only release the single, rather than her album on Spotify, which in turn put a spotlight on ‘Hello’ and made the song one of her most successful tracks on the music streaming service. ‘Hello’ also made the list for Spotify’s Top 100 Tracks of 2015 - Global and Spotify’s Most-Played All Time updated playlist.



#7: “Uptown Funk” (2014)

This feel good song has attracted more than 750 million streams on Spotify.Heavily inspired by early 1980s funk, ‘Uptown Funk’, produced by Mark Ronson with vocals from Bruno Mars, became a viral sensation since its release in late 2014. It was reported that in the first few months the song gathered more than 15 million new streams per week on Spotify.‘Uptown Funk’ also appears at the top of the list for Spotify’s Top 100 Tracks of 2015 - Global and has also earned a spot on their Most Played All-Time updated playlist.
 
 



#6: “Despacito - Remix” (2017)
Luis Fonsi featuring Daddy Yankee and Justin Bieber


This reggaeton flavored track was not just a hit when Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi and rapper Daddy Yankee released the song in January 2017. The song became even more popular when it was marketable to an English audience, via Justin Bieber. The remix of the Spanish track, which was released four months after the original accumulated more than a billion streams on Spotify. The music streaming service claimed that ‘Despacito (Remix)’ was the most streamed song of summer 2017 around the world.



#5: “What Do You Mean?” (2015)

Speaking of Justin Bieber, the young man is no stranger to racking up millions of streams online himself. As of late 2017, Bieber is attached to 7 of the top 50 most played tracks on Spotify, three of which are his own tracks, while four see the singer as a guest or featured artist. Many of the tracks from his 2015 album 'Purpose' have more than 100 million streams on the service – including “Love Yourself”, “Sorry” and, of course, “What Do You Mean?”. The latter two tracks are especially notable as both set record-breaking plays within the first week of the album's release .
 
 

#4: “Closer” (2016)
The Chainsmokers feat. Halsey




With more than one billion plays on Spotify, this EDM song by American artists The Chainsmokers and Halsey is one of the most streamed songs on the music streaming platform. The ear-wormy chorus and dance-worthy track was described by some music critics as an instant classic and a song fit for a summer playlist. And it became just that. ‘Closer’ debuted on July 2016 and became the second song on Spotify to reach a billion plays around in 2017, and averaged about nine million streams weekly  
   

#3: “Lean On” (2015)

This song topped the charts in 2015. The medley of talent from American electronic producers Major Lazer, vocals from Denmark's MØ, and production work France's DJ Snake, was released on March 2015 and raked in more than a billion streams on Spotify. In the summer of 2015, ‘Lean On’ claimed the title of Spotify’s Most-Streamed Song of All Time.  Despite being eventually overtaken by “One Dance”, the song also appears in the number one spot for Spotify’s Top 100 Tracks of 2015 Global list, and it’s still doing numbers to this day.



#2: “One Dance” (2016)

This dance track was released in April 2016 and became one of the most popular songs globally by the end of that year.   ‘One Dance’ sampled British singer Kyla’s track ‘Do You Mind’ and made it a viral success. Because of this,   the song was the first to reach more than a billion plays on the music streaming platform.  Drake is one of the most popular artists on Spotify, so it shouldn't be that surprising that one of his tracks – especially one as hot as this – set any kind of a record, but high expectations doesn't make it any less awesome .

#1: “Shape Of You” (2017)
Ed Sheeran


It took just over five months for Ed Sheeran’s 2017 single to become the fastest song to reach one billion streams on Spotify. The song was released in January 2017 and soon took over the title as the most streamed song on the music streaming platform, surpassing Drake’s ‘One Dance’ in September and ending the rapper’s 11-month reign at number one. However this isn’t the only major feat by the British artist. The 2014 track ‘Thinking Out Loud’ became the first song to reach 500 million streams towards the end of 2015, meaning Ed has some serious streaming cred.
