Top 10 Spectacular Spider Man Fight Scenes

Top 10 Spectacular Spider Man Fight Scenes
VOICE OVER: Rebecca Brayton WRITTEN BY: Nick Spake
These Spider-Man fight scenes live up to the hype! For this list, we'll be looking at the best battles from this spectacularly short-lived “Spidey” series. Our countdown of the best "Spectacular Spider-Man" fight scenes includes Spider-Man vs. The Vulture & Enforcers, Spider-Man vs. Doc Oc, Spider-Man vs. The Symbiote, and more!

#10: Spider-Man vs. The Vulture & Enforcers

“Survival of the Fittest”
Being Spider-Man’s first major villain encounter in the series, this showdown sets the tone for everything to come. Norman Osborn has a knack for making enemies, and he’s not exactly one to ever apologize. After Osborn steals his ideas, Adrian Toomes fires back with the same technology that he pioneered, complete with a set of wings and talons. Even with the voice of Freddy Krueger himself, Robert Englund, Vulture needs backup to keep Spider-Man off his tail. Enter the Enforcers. Spider-Man finds himself stuck in the middle, which actually works to his advantage. With Osborn out of harm’s way, Spidey makes Vulture collide with the Enforcers’ helicopter, clipping both of their wings. If only Peter Parker could balance his work and personal life this well.

#9: Spider-Man vs. Sandman

“First Steps”
Between getting turned into cement and a failed team-up with Rhino, it appears Flint Marko will never learn his lesson. The villain takes an unexpected turn in Season 2, however. It’s business as usual with Spidey thwarting Sandman’s latest robbery, which makes creative use of museum artifacts. Later while squaring off on a sinking oil tanker, a Goliath-sized Flint accumulates enough sand to fill a beach. In a position to crush his rival like a bug, Sandman has a change of heart when he notices innocent civilians in danger. Realizing the extent of his greedy actions, he saves everyone, including Spidey. Due to the show’s premature cancellation, not every character got a proper ending, but this act of redemption leaves Sandman on a satisfying note.

#8: Spider-Man vs. Tombstone, Doctor Octopus, & Silvermane

“Gangland”
On Valentine's Day, Peter finds himself torn between girlfriend Liz and his feelings for Gwen. This love triangle will have to be put on hold as Peter deals with another trio. Looking to be more than just an enforcer, Hammerhead attempts to turn Silverman, Doc Oc, and his boss Tombstone against each other. The three engage in an operatic showdown with Doc Oc, in particular, channeling major Phantom vibes. He even drops a chandelier when Spider-Man enters the mix. The villains take turns duking it out with Spidey while still fighting each other. While Doc and Silverman consider a temporary team-up to take down Spider-Man, Tombstone has an image to uphold. With the upper hand constantly changing, this fight leaves us breathless until the final curtain.

#7: Spider-Man vs. The Vault Prisoners

“Opening Night”
In the penultimate episode, Spider-Man winds up in prison with some of his most formidable foes, including the Enforcers, Silvermane, Mysterio, Rhino, and Molten Man. The mastermind is the Green Goblin, who releases the prisoners from their cells. Spider-Man is given no choice but to accept assistance from a criminal he holds a personal grudge against: Walter Hardy, who killed Uncle Ben. Making matters more complicated, Hardy is the father of Black Cat, who’s there to bust him out. Hardy chooses to atone for his crimes, remaining in prison and helping Spider-Man detain the inmates. While the lineup of villains is impressive, it’s the conflict between Peter, Hardy, and Felicia that anchors this showdown with the emotional stakes being even greater than the physical stakes.

#6: Spider-Man vs. Doc Oc

“Shear Strength”
Otto Octavius begins as a sympathetic underling whose gifts go underappreciated. Octavius sheds his timid side following a freak accident, becoming Doc Oc. The Doc is just getting warmed up when he first tangos with Spider-Man on Coney Island. The two clash several more times with Doc later adopting another alter ego, Master Planner. The rivalry takes an especially personal turn when Doc and his sinister colleagues kidnap Gwen. Oc emerges as the final boss with his arms creeping through the flooding walls. Even after Spidey outmaneuvers him, Oc comes prepared with a self-destruct sequence. This makes leeway for a homage to “Amazing Spider-Man #33” as the crumbling lair crushes our hero. Oc might’ve broken Peter if Gwen wasn’t present to reignite his fighting spirit.

#5: Spider-Man vs. The Lizard

“Natural Selection”
If you’re Peter’s friend and/or mentor, there’s at least a 50/50 chance that you’ll make Spider-Man’s rogues gallery. Dr. Curt Connors is among the show’s earliest examples. Connors’ attempt to regrow his lost arm backfires as he turns into the Lizard. What follows is right out of a body horror movie with Connors unable to control his beastly nature. The ensuing fight makes impeccable use of the show’s New York setting, taking Spider-Man and the Lizard from a crowded subway station, to a moving train, to the Bronx Zoo. And just to up the stakes, Spidey has to deal with some other animals too. Fortunately, Eddie Brock provides backup, allowing Spidey to restore Connors’ humanity before he can make any more mistakes.

#4: Spider-Man vs. Venom

“Nature vs. Nurture”
Eddie Brock is often depicted as a rival, but this series reimagines him as Peter’s big brother figure. This makes it all the more tragic when Eddie’s life is ruined, pinning the blame on Spider-Man and Peter. Realizing both are one and the same, Eddie seeks to destroy his friend-turned-enemy by joining with the symbiote. Crushing Spider-Man isn’t enough for Venom. He targets his loved ones as well, culminating in a fight on parade balloons with Gwen’s fate hanging in the balance. Venom may have brawn, but Peter has brains, luring the symbiote away from Eddie and into Spider-Man’s web. Peter wins this round, but it’s not the last he hears from Venom, who’s more determined than ever to unmask the spider.

#3: Spider-Man vs. The Green Goblin

“Final Curtain”
This show knew how to play with our expectations even when the obvious was right in front of us. When The Green Goblin first surfaces, we naturally assume that it’s Norman Osborn. After clashing with Spider-Man again, the flying foe is revealed to be Harry Osborn, who has become hooked on “Globulin Green.” We genuinely believe that Norman might be a good guy protecting his son, only for the series finale to pull the rug out from under us. Flying over New York, Peter learns that the Goblin was indeed Norman all along with Chameleon helping to keep the charade up. The Goblin seemingly goes out in a blaze of green glory, but Norman lives to fight another day… assuming we ever get another season.

#2: Spider-Man vs. The Symbiote

“Intervention”
One of the most compelling fights in the series is more internal than external. Recognizing the mess that he’s become entangled in, Peter is ready to forsake his black suit. The symbiote isn’t letting go without a fight, however. A battle erupts within Peter’s mind as he grapples with anger, regret, and grief. Throughout the ordeal, Peter learns one last lesson from his Uncle Ben, voiced by Ed Asner (who also voiced J. Jonah Jameson in the 1994 series). Finding that he isn’t alone, Peter summons the strength to sever ties with the symbiote. Just over a year after “Spider-Man 3” botched the “Alien Costume Saga,” this story arc gave us the emotional inner struggle that we were hoping for.

#1: Spider-Man vs. The Sinister Six

“Group Therapy”
The first season takes its time introducing Electro, Doc Oc, Rhino, Sandman, Shocker, and Vulture, building to Spidey facing off against all of them. As the villains join forces, Peter finds himself increasingly isolated, becoming more reliant on his black suit. Spider-Man is forced to flee as the Sinister Six terror up Times Square, but round two comes soon enough in the park. The battle makes effective use of every villain’s abilities. However, just because they’ve teamed up doesn’t mean the Six are in sync. Spider-Man cleverly uses their powers against one another, showing that strength in numbers isn’t always everything. When Peter learns that the symbiote was in the driver’s seat, though, he slowly realizes the importance of having his own support group.
