The Dessert Nachos at Detroit’s Ford Field are like a giant ice cream sundae. Instead of ice cream, however, this concoction is comprised of deep-fried flour tortilla chips covered with cinnamon sugar. The chefs proceed to pile on Nutella, Snickers, mallow fluff, graham crackers, silver sprinkles, and Michigan chocolate-covered cherries. This dish is so photogenic that you almost feel bad about eating it, but its candy-coated allure is simply too tempting to resist. Described as a “wow” item, it’s the ideal treat for any Lions fan to sink their sweet tooth into. #9: Dodger Burger Dodger Stadium, Los Angeles, California Whenever you’re at a sporting event, you’ll eventually be forced to make a difficult choice: burger or hot dog. Fortunately, guests can have it both ways when they attend a game at Dodger Stadium. At first, the Dodger Burger may seem fairly straight-forward, with an all-beef patty, caramelized onions, and BBQ sauce. On top of all that, though, the burger is blanketed with beer-battered jalapeno poppers and a sliced-up Dodger Dog. Stretching 10 inches, the Dodger Dog is already one of the most iconic stadium foods in all of Major League Baseball. Pairing with a mouthwatering burger is truly a match made in heaven. #8: Slider Dog Progressive Field, Cleveland, Ohio Hot dogs are a staple of any baseball stadium, but you’re unlikely to find another like Happy Dog’s Slider Dog at Ohio’s Progressive Field. When you think of condiments that go on hot dogs, what comes to mind? Mustard, relish, onions, sauerkraut and (if you’re so inclined) ketchup. The Slider Dog, however, is dressed in macaroni and cheese, bacon, and – the real kicker - Froot Loops. We’re not sure if the presence of this sweetened cereal makes the Slider Dog more like breakfast or more like dessert. Either way, it’s certainly a unique choice for lunch or dinner, packing a diverse blend of meaty, cheesy, and fruity goodness into every bite. #7: Texas Snowballs Globe Life Park, Arlington, Texas You can’t judge a book by its cover, and the same logic applies to food, especially the dishes found at sports stadiums. The powdered sugar coating of a Texas Snowball might lead one to believe that it’s filled with a buttery pecan flavor. Anyone expecting a Christmas cookie is in for a surprise, however. Instead, you’ll bite into shredded brisket that’s been deep-fried in funnel cake batter. It’s hard to say what the cooks at Globe Life Park were thinking when they decided to combine barbeque with State Fair cuisine. Regardless, this peculiar fusion paid off, resulting in an unusually delectable treat that satisfies two distinctly different cravings at once. #6: Funnel Cake Chicken Sandwich Chase Field, Phoenix, Arizona “Cake” and “chicken” are two words that . . . don’t necessarily belong together. But it’s all good in the case of the Funnel Cake Chicken Sandwich! As its name implies, this bad boy swaps out bread for two funnel cakes, with a crispy chicken fillet in the middle. As if that’s not strange enough, the sandwich also includes garlic black pepper Cheddar, strawberry jam, powdered sugar, and maple syrup. (xref) Wow. If you’re still hungry afterwards, try the Churro Dog 2.0, which takes an Oreo churro and wraps it in a donut topped with frozen yogurt, whipped cream, and chocolate sauce. #5: Tape Measure Cheesesteak Yankee Stadium, The Bronx, New York City You’ll find an assortment of ambitious eating choices at Yankee Stadium, like the Barnyard Wedding: a monstrous cheeseburger stuffed with fried chicken and hash browns. Those looking for an even greater challenge can step up their game with the Tape Measure Cheesesteak. As one would expect from a Philly-style cheesesteak, it comes complete with peppers, onions, and the option of American cheese or Cheez Whiz. What sets the Tape Measure Cheesesteak apart, however, is its size. Priced at $27, this intimidating sandwich stretches two feet and packs a whopping 1,795 calories. Don’t feel bad if you can’t finish it alone, this cheesesteak is perfect for sharing with fellow Yankees fans. #4: Burgerizza SunTrust Park, Atlanta, Georgia Stadiums across the U.S. have cooked up a wide variety of unique options for pizza-lovers. At Detroit’s Comerica Park, the Deep-Dish Coney Pizza takes a Little Caesar’s pie and decorates it with mustard, onion, chili, and sliced hot dogs. Perhaps the only thing crazier than combining pizza and hot dogs, is merging pizza and burgers together. Found at Atlanta’s SunTrust Park, the Burgerizza is 24 pounds of ground beef topped with bacon sandwiched between two 8-inch pepperoni pizzas. So basically, it’s like three meals in one! While definitely not for lightweights, those willing to cough up the $26 bucks and live with the caloric consequences will be treated to an eating experience they’ll never forget. #3: Pulled Pork Patty Melt Kauffman Stadium, Kansas City, Missouri If you thought the Funnel Cake Chicken Sandwich was insane, feast your eyes on the Pork Patty Melt. While the name might not sound like anything extravagant, the ingredients are sure to raise a few eyebrows. With funnel cakes replacing the buns (yes, again), this BBQ pulled pork sandwich features coleslaw, fried onions, and bacon. The funnel cakes being covered in powdered sugar isn’t even the strangest part of this “sandwich”, as a jalapeno popper is plopped on top like a cherry! There’s one other item at Kauffman Stadium that could give the Pork Patty Melt a run for its money: The Sunrise Dog, which is dressed in cheese, bacon, sausage gravy, and fried egg. #2: Grasshoppers Safeco Field, Seattle, Washington This entry pretty much speaks for itself. Where most of the items on this list stand out either due to their size or unusual pairings, this treat is unconventional but simple. It was Poquitos executive chef Manny Arce who decided to put toasted chile-lime grasshoppers (called Chapulines in Mexico and Central America) on the menu at Safeco Field. The grasshoppers went on to become one of the most popular snacks at the stadium, selling like hotcakes (if hotcakes were insects). Arce was as surprised as anyone by just how successful his creation became. Since their introduction, it can be said that no Mariners game is complete without peanuts, Cracker Jack, and grasshoppers, assuming you can get past the whole insect thing. #1: Gridiron Burger University of Phoenix Stadium, Glendale, Arizona With nine patties stacked on top of each other, the Wayback Triple Triple Burger at Philadelphia’s Citizens Bank Park was a worthy contender for this list. As far as eating challenges go, though, nothing is quite as daunting as the Gridiron Burger at University of Phoenix Stadium. Weighing a whopping seven pounds and costing $75, this beast of a meal has it all, and then some: five 1/3-pound patties, five hot dogs, five bratwursts, eight chicken tenders, eight bacon slices, 12 ounces of fries, and 20 slices of cheese. There’s somehow room for lettuce, pickles, and tanker sauce on that 10-inch bun. We’d say good luck finishing this one, but just taking a bite is tricky enough.
