“Jeez Louise what is that?” Welcome to WatchMojo.com and today we will be counting down our picks for the top ten Star Fox bosses. For this list, we will be looking at boss battles that span across the Star Fox series prior to Star Fox Zero, and choosing the ones which left a memorable impact on us as players for how well they captured the intensity of space flight combat.

#10: Dune Worm

“Star Fox Command” (2006) It just had to be a giant worm, didn’t it? Possibly inspired by a similar looking monster in the 1984 film “Dune”, this hideous creature is a bioweapon which swims through the thick seas of sand on the planet Titania, eliminating anything which crosses its path. An impressively large battle for the DS handheld, this boss is a pulse pounding game of “peek-a-boo” as the green goliath goes from burrowing underground to making massive leaps into the air. Through some careful maneuvering and well placed shots, the Star Fox teams swats this oversized insect. Just be sure to bring some pesticide next time, huh?

#9: Spyborg

“Star Fox 64” (1997) Next up on our list is this robot which aimlessly drifts through the shambles of a space station in Sector X. Sent to investigate the area, the Star Fox team swerves through debris in search of what is being called “the enemy’s secret weapon”. Once it appears, it helps to show why some things are better left unfound. A force to be reckoned with, the robot viciously flails its arms, attempting to destroy anything in its path. As you blast Spyborg to smithereens, you can't help but feel a little bit sorry as it was just trying to find its creator.

#8: Great Commander

“Star Fox” (1993) The Star Fox team can’t catch a break can they? Another sizable boss battle, the Great Commander is made up of three smaller pieces which form together to create a massive mechanical menace. Soaring across the screen showing off the impressive Super FX graphics the game had at the time, the Great Commander can only be damaged if shot on one of its very miniscule weak points, a task easier said than done considering how much this boss moves around. In the end, this boss is more proof that no matter how big the enemy, the Star Fox team is up for the challenge.

#7: Monarch Dodora “Star Fox Zero” (2016)

This twin headed bird first appeared in the original Star Fox on the SNES, although he was a bit of a pushover in his debut. In his 2016 return however, this bird wasn’t going to be flapping about no more. You have to destroy all 4 of his weak points, but 3 of them are really hard to hit, due to their small size and the point on his tail firing back a really powerful laser. He can also whip up a series of whirlwinds that can mess up your ride, and just when you thought he was done, he may appear in deep space again as the Cosmic Dodora, nice birdie.

#6: Gorgon

“Star Fox 64” (1997) This is one heck of an ultimate weapon. Deployed as the last line of defense for Andross’s homeworld “Venom”, this gargantuan machine definitely lives up to its job description providing a hefty challenge for the Star Fox team. Gorgon has multiple means of attack including a devastating energy beam which nearly takes up the entire screen. Making matters worse, Gorgon also has an impenetrable shield that only after its tentacle arms and energy balls are destroyed is it vulnerable for the player to retaliate. After a close fight like this, lets hope that Andross doesn’t have any more ultimate weapons up his sleeve.

#5: Mechbeth

“Star Fox 64” (1997) Talk about the little engine that could. This thrilling boss encounter actually makes up the entire level, with the Mechbeth drone attached to a lengthy train that seems to go on forever, appropriately titled “The Forever Train”. Using the trusty Landmaster, the player chases the train blowing it up piece by piece, while still dealing with enemy fire from all directions. Not going down without a fight, the train eventually deploys the aforementioned Mechbeth in an attempt to finish you off. For the most satisfying victory, we recommend shooting eight hidden switches to reroute the tracks for a great big “ka-blooey”. (Show base explosion)

#4: The Aparoid Queen

“Star Fox Assault” (2005) Time to hit ‘em where it hurts. The final confrontation in Star Fox Assault brings you face to face with the Aparoid Queen, leader of an alien race causing anarchy in the Lylat system. This towering boss fight is intense, as the player must blast away the queen’s protective shielding while simultaneously dodging incoming projectiles. The queen also poses a psychological threat, mimicking the voices of friends and family to the Star Fox team in an attempt to play some mind games. A battle of skills and wills this queen was still no match for our anthropomorphic heroes.

#3: Aquarosa “Star Fox Zero” (2016)

Let it be known that if you fly blindly into wormholes, you’re probably not gonna like what’s on the other side. With Nine Heavy Laser turrets, an electromagnetic shield that fires constant pulses, and multiple support aircraft firing missiles at you, it’s certainly not a battle for beginners. If you want to survive this battle you need to make full use of the Wii U Gamepad’s aiming capabilities, while at the same time keeping an eye on your surroundings. You’re wingmen aren’t here to back you up either so … good luck.

#2 Andross’s Brain

“Star Fox 64” (1997) Now this is a showdown. The main antagonist of the series, Andross waits for you at the end of his homeworld Venom, taunting you as you get closer and closer. If the player reaches Andross on hard difficulty, they are treated to an extra surprise when they think the battle is over. This face-off provides some of the greatest moments in the game, as he teleports across the battlefield proving that Andross’s noggin’ isn’t easy to outsmart. To put the cherry on the cake, the player must then narrowly escape from Andross’s crumbling base, Return of the Jedi style. Before we unveil our top pick, here are a few honorable mentions... Sarumarine "Star Fox 64" (1997) Slot Machine “Star Fox” (1993) Salvadora "Star Fox Zero" (2016) General’s Flagship “Star Fox Assault” (2005) Vulcain "Star Fox 64" (1997)

#1: Star Wolf

“Star Fox” series (1993-) Here is what it’s all about. Appearing multiple times throughout the series, Star Wolf is a group of mercenaries similar to that of the Star Fox team, as well as their arch-rivals. The thrilling aerial combats against these lethal adversaries are the epitome of what this series is all about at its core: flight combat. Each member of Star Wolf is the ying to Star Fox’s yang, with no pilot being left without a *ahem* dance partner. Suspenseful and spectacular in every sense of the word, these deadly dogfights shoot right into our top spot. Do you agree with our list?
