Top 10 Starbucks Secret Menu Items
Welcome to the ultimate Starbucks lover fix, secret menu items! We've included all the best secret menu items, including Shirley Temple, Thin Mint Frappuccino, Nutella Frappuccino, Strawberry Lemonade Tea, Oreo Frappuccino, all the Frappuccinos! To be fair, we're also excluding promotional or limited-run items, so drinks like the Unicorn frap won't be seen here.
#10: Mermaid Frappuccino
It’s a beverage fit for Princess Ariel! Like its Dragon counterpart, the Mermaid Frap’s key components are found at every Starbucks location and thus can be made anytime. And the base of this drink is as easy as they come: take a Vanilla Bean Frap and blend in some freeze-dried blackberries. However, to get the characteristic swirl, your barista also needs to mix up some green drizzle, which involves white mocha sauce, toasted coconut syrup and matcha. Because of the made-to-order ingredients, it’s at each store’s discretion to make the drink or not – making it a little hard to find. But that’s appropriate for a drink named after a mythical creature.
#9: Thin Mint Frappuccino
Taking its name from the insanely popular cookie, this ingenious secret menu item caters to those Girl Scout supporters who just can’t wait for fundraising season. As its name suggests, this frappuccino mimics the Girl Scout cookie flavor known as Thin Mint – and the drink’s as popular as its baked-good cousin… Meaning: VERY. The taste is simple: milk chocolate with a punch or peppermint, achieved by mixing a Green Tea Creme Frap with mocha syrup, java chips and – of course – a hint o’ mint. And, when ordered as a venti, this blended treat is about as filling as a box of cookies.
#8: Shirley Temple
Named for the world-famous child actress, this secret menu item is the Starbucks version of the mocktail made with ginger ale, grenadine and – sometimes – orange juice. Starbucks’ take on the kid-friendly drink uses ingredients they’ve got on hand, with Orange Mango Lemonade as the base and a pump of raspberry syrup on top for a pretty, layered treat. Sadly, Orange Mango Lemonade has been discontinued in many markets, but you can still indulge in this refreshing secret menu item by blending Strawberry Lemonade with some orange, mango and raspberry flavoring – or some similar variation. Try it with ale or without for a tasty summer beverage option!
#7: Nutella Frappuccino
You love it on toast, you love it on waffles, you probably love it right off the spoon. Now, thanks to Starbucks, you can also love it in beverage form. Staying true to the signature flavor, the Nutella Frap is simply the fan-favorite Mocha Frap (or some other coffee drink) blended with whipped cream and hazelnut syrup, and topped with MORE whipped cream. The caramel syrup drizzle’s optional, but honestly who’s gonna say no to that? Some intrepid Starbucks fanatics have started experimenting with home recipes for this Frap, using the actual spread as an ingredient. It’s like we’ve died and gone to Nutella heaven!
#6: Mojito Refresher
Starbucks tried serving booze with its “Evenings” program – but unfortunately for them, it didn’t catch on with customers. However, if ever you ARE in the mood for a cocktail instead of a coffee – minus the alcohol, of course! – try the Mojito Refresher on for size. Just like the Cuban cocktail, Starbucks’ spin on the mojito mixes lime and mint for a perfect summer drink. To all Refresher enthusiasts, just order a Cool Lime with classic and peppermint syrup. And, if you’re in that kinda mood, take your ice-blended bevvy to go, and add some rum once you get home.
#5: Cotton Candy Frappuccino
No need to be near a Ferris Wheel to indulge in everyone’s favorite amusement park treat! While you don’t get the same texture as its fluffy food equivalent, you’ll certainly get the same flavor with Starbucks’ Cotton Candy Frap. Plus, there’s no waiting around for it to spin into shape: just order a Vanilla Bean Frap with some healthy pumps of raspberry syrup, and you’ve got a sugar rush in a glass. Since this was first created, Starbucks removed the artificial coloring from their syrups – meaning the bubblegum pink of the drink is no more. But it’s still a favorite among frequenters, since the flavor hasn’t been affected. In fact, it’s so popular, Starbucks even lists the nutritional info on their website!
#4: Caramel Snickerdoodle Macchiato
This simple yet flavor-packed beverage is enjoyed by customers every bit as much as its macchiato cousins on the official menu – and let us tell you: it’s as delicious as it sounds. The very important first step to ordering a CSM? Ask your barista for an Iced Soy Caramel Macchiato UPSIDE DOWN; that way, all the gooey, sticky caramel is at the bottom of the cup and your first sip will a super-sweet surprise! Pumps of Vanilla and Cinnamon Dolce syrup finish it off, and give you a drink that tastes just like the classic cookie, the snickerdoodle – with a caramel-y twist.
#3: Strawberry Lemonade Tea
Crafted with lemonade stand simplicity in mind, this secret menu item takes some of your favorite tastes and mixes them together for a fresh and lightly-caffeinated new concoction. Enjoyed mainly as an ice-blended beverage, the Strawberry Lemonade Tea is made just the way you think: by blending Strawberry Lemonade with Black Tea. But here’s where it gets complicated: make sure to ask for equal parts tea and lemonade, with half the normal amount of strawberry. If you feel like getting a bit crazy, sub in different flavors of tea, juice or syrup for a completely different – but equally secret! – experience.
#2: Oreo Frappuccino
Whether you call it the Cookies and Cream Frappuccino or use its branded moniker, this Starbucks dessert fave in frap form is basically like a milkshake or an ice cream sundae. Simply a Double Chocolate Chip Frappuccino with white mocha sauce in place of regular, this secret ice-blend takes milk’s favorite cookie and kicks it up a notch. Of course, don’t forget to top with your choice of chocolate or regular whipped cream and cookie crumbs! Since its creation, the Oreo Frap has inspired baristas and guests to craft drinks that taste like their favorite snacks and desserts, leading to other secret menu items like the Twix Frap.
#1: Butterbeer Frappuccino
No need to venture to Hogsmeade to experience the sensational taste of butterbeer! If you don’t mind consuming the Potter-inspired beverage in its ice-blended form, simply go to Starbucks and order a cream-based caramel frap with caramel syrup walls and toffee nut syrup. Enjoyed by wizards, witches and muggles of all ages, the Butterbeer Frap has since led to other experimental variations, including a hot latte form. In 2016, Starbucks added the limited edition Smoked Butterscotch Latte to its menu, and it tasted suspiciously like butterbeer as well. It’s now gone, but at least Potterheads still have the secret Frap to satisfy their cravings – it’s like magic in a cup!
