Top 10 Swords in Video Games
VOICE OVER: Dan Paradis
Script written by Jamie Leslie

The world's most timeless weapon has been features time and time again in the virtual world. Join http://www.watchmojo.com as we countdown our picks for the Top 10 Swords in Video Games.

As you should know by now, we're sticking to one sword per franchise and we're excluding those that didn't originate from video games, so you won't find any lightsabers here. Also we're not looking for swords with the highest stats since that would be a rather arbitrary and boring list, but rather swords that have unique designs and abilities, and those that have a greater significance in their respective worlds.

Special Thanks to our users "evz44" "LordAntares9" &"Tyler White" for suggesting this topic on our Website WatchMojo.comsuggest

#10: Beam Katana
“No More Heroes” series (2007-)

This badass piece of hardware could only be sported by the master assassin, Travis Touchdown. This swordemits a large beam of energy from it's handle, and is powered by specific crystals. With it's relative light build, ability to penetrate through most objects, and even deflect bullets, the efficiency of this weapon may be unmatched. Yeah it is essentially a lightsaber rip off but don’t get too slash-happy with it, as it may frequently need to recharge, and … lets just say you don’t want to be caught doing that in public.

#9: Blade of Olympus
“God of War" Series (2007- )

This celestial weapon was passed down to Kratos from the almighty Zeus, who personally forged it from the Heavens and the Earth. However you look at it, this sword just defines the word strength. The blade glows a blue aura and was said to contain the might to defeat a Titan. In Zeus' almighty words to Kratos, it needs a godly power to reach its full potential, but what he doesn’t tell Kratos is that the blade also takes away his godly power, rendering the demigod mortal.

#8: Monado
“Xenoblade Chronicles” (2011)

The Monado sword is as mysterious in both history and it’s design designed. This weapon has the ability to manipulate the compounds of ether, can change its own form, and can give it's wielder the gift of foresight. In short, this weapon is basically what the wielder wills it to be. Shulk, it's chosen master, acquires the sword and uses it to defended his colony against the Mechon. Being the sole survivor in an expedition for the artifact, Shulk dedicates his life to uncovering the secrets of the mystical blade.

#7: Masamune
“Chrono Trigger” (1995)

Named after Goro Masamune, who is regarded as Japan’s greatest swordsmith. Frog's late master Cyrus once wielded it against the dark sorcerer Magus and lost. Chrono and his party later recovered the blade and were able to reforge it using an extinct Dreamstone. The blade also contains the spirits Masa & Mune who become a symbol of the bravery and skill one needs to wield the blade. It may share the same name as Sephiroth’s weapon in Final Fantasy 7, but in the hands of Frog, it can be used it to split a mountain in half.

#6: Energy Sword
“Halo" Series (2001- )

All Halo fans will recognize this weapon as the bane of their multiplaying experience. Harboring massive melee damage capabilities, this sword is known for effortlessly penetrating armor to deliver one-hit kills. If this thing doesn't puncture any of your vitals on impact, the sheer temperature will surely burn out your insides. Unlike solid based weapons, the Energy Sword employs magnetically sealed, partially ionized, free moving electron based gas. Along with being one of the most destructive weapons in the game, the sword is also heralded as the signature weapon of the Elites.

#5: Frostmourne
“Warcraft" Series” (1994- )

This sword receives its notoriety from the dark history behind it. Housing the soul of Ner'zhul, the Lich King, the cursed artifact was soon discovered by Prince Arthas Menethril on the continent of Northrend. To his demise, the sword corrupted his soul and transformed him into the new Lich King. With every new victim the blade had slain, their souls would be swallowed and attached to it, allowing the sword to become stronger. All of those spirits were released when the sword, along with the Lich King that wielded it, met their end.

#4: Keyblade
“Kingdom Hearts” series (2002-)

Wielded mainly by the protagonist Sora, the Keyblade consciously chooses it's master on their worthiness and strength of heart. It's innate ability to unlock virtually anything, including the hearts of various worlds and people, allows it to be one of the most versatile weapons on our list. Along with it being a superbly effective melee weapon it’s also a vessel for magic and it's keychain interchanging abilities. There are many variations of this weapon, with its most iconic variation being the first version Sora receives: The Kingdom Key.

#3: Soul Edge
“Soul Calibur" Series (1995- )

Born from blood and hatred, this sword manifested into the demonic weapon it is known as today. Soul Edge not only absorbs the soul of it's opponents, but also it's wielder, driving most who possess it insane. Most notable among its victims is Seigfried, who is transformed into the demonic Nightmare upon obtaining it. Commonly characterized as a sword, but has been known to take on different shapes depending on it's wielder. The sword's power is so noteworthy, it has become the game's own antagonist, and is even able to take it's true form without a host body.

#2: Buster Sword
“Final Fantasy VII” (1997)

This 6-foot monster of a blade very well may be the most iconic in the whole series. Originally wielded by Zack Fair, who passed the sword to his friend Cloud with his dying breath, the Buster Sword is the default weapon at the start of the game. Despite it being the sword with the least capabilities, it has become the most personal, and a symbol of one of the greatest heroes in the franchise. Though Squall’s Gunblade came close as runner up for Final Fantasy’s slot, everyone knows Cloud Strife as the guy with the huge sword, so, case closed.

Before we unveil our pick for Top Video Game Sword, here are a few honorable mentions:

Lilarcor
“Baldur's Gate 2”

Rebellion
“Devil May Cry Series” - 2001

Z-Saber
“Megaman X Series” - 1993

Falchion
“Fire Emblem Series” - 1990

#1: Master Sword
“The Legend of Zelda" Series (1986- )

What other sword could have taken this spot than the Blade of Evil’s Bane? The legend of this enchanted blade precedes that of even the series, and is quite literally the swiss army knife of swords in terms of what it can do. It’s used for Time travel, dispelling magical barriers, lifting curses, a lightning rod, and it even turned the nefarious dark lord Ganon into stone. Only the worthiest of heroes will be able to pull it from its pedestal, and even then only those willing to prove themselves can unlock its true power. The Master Sword isn't only a weapon, but a symbolic representation of good conquering evil.
