Top 10 Times Entitled Musicians RUINED Their Own Lives

#10: Jennifer Lopez
In 1998, Lopez's public image forever changed after an interview with Movieline, where she criticized several actors and filmmakers. Lopez claimed she was misquoted and her comments were out of context, but the damage to her image was done. Since then, the singer has gone through periods of public dislike. But none more than in the modern era. On top of being accused of being rude to a journalist in 2024, Lopez was recorded spitting gum into an assistants hand before filming. This was on top of her allegedly having a history of diva behavior at private airports, as staff detailed their experiences online. In 2025, Lopez continued her entitled ways by using images from a photographer without permission, resulting in a lawsuit.
#9: Katy Perry
Recently, Perry generated a lot of heat for being on the Blue Origin rocket and implying she and the crew were astronauts. Even other celebs mocked the space stunt. Yet Perrys out-of-touch entitlement started before this. In 2015, she began an ill-judged legal battle with a convent of nuns for the property they lived at in Los Angeles, California. While no one came out looking good, Perry looked worse, especially considering she was accused of causing too much stress to one of the nuns who died. In 2018, while a judge on American Idol, contestant Benjamin Glaze mentioned he hadnt kissed a woman. So, Perry went for a kiss on the cheek, only to smooch him on the lips. Glaze later called the experience uncomfortable.
#8: Lizzo
With ear-worming tunes like About Damn Time, Lizzo was on her way to music stardom. But then, 2023 happened, which forever changed her public image from an empowering woman to an alleged monster. That year, 3 former dancers accused Lizzo of sexual harassment and creating a hostile work environment with various racist and inappropriate comments. Soon after, stylist Asha Daniels issued her own lawsuit against the musician for several issues, including disability discrimination. Lizzo has denied the allegations. In 2024, Danielss case was mostly dismissed by a judge, except against Lizzos company, Big Grrrl Big Touring. Some of the claims by the dancers were also dismissed, but the suit is still going ahead.
#7: Michelle Shocked
In her early career in the late 80s, Shocked would insinuate she was a lesbian, later stating she was bisexual. With that in mind, when fans went to see her at Yoshi's nightclub in San Francisco, California, in 2013, they were hoping to enjoy a non-bigoted performance in a city famous for its LGBTQIA+ inclusivity. Boy, were they wrong! Instead, Shocked betrayed her fanbase by ranting against same-sex marriages and said it would cause the end of civilization. The born-again Christian then uttered a slur. The audience soon began to leave as the club management shut down Shocked's performance. With the massive backlash, the singer tried backtracking and claimed her words were misinterpreted. However, it didnt work, and shes barely been heard of since.
#6: Tim Lambesis
As the face of the Christian metal band, As I Lay Dying, Lambesis was a respected figure in the industry. However, his entitlement and arrogance came out when he was arrested for trying to hire an assassin to kill his wife. In 2014, after pleading guilty, he was sentenced to 6 years. During this time, Lambesis also stated he and the rest of the band had been atheists for a while, disillusioning their remaining fans. The singer was released from jail in 2016. In 2024, Lambesis got divorced from his third wife. Soon after, videos leaked online of the singer attacking her. Upon seeing the video, every musician left As I Lay Dying, leaving Lambesis alone in his empire of dirt.
#5: Chris Brown
At one point, it seemed like Brown would be a legend in the R&B genre. But when 2009 came around, the first thought about him was no longer his music but his crimes. That year, he and his partner Rhianna were in a car when an argument erupted. Brown viciously attacked her while driving. He was sentenced to 5 years of probation. In 2025, during his tour, Brown was surprisingly let back into the UK despite having a violent criminal conviction and having been accused of attacking music producer Abraham Diaw. Brown, likely feeling untouchable, arrivedwhere he was promptly arrested in Manchester, England. The singer was able to post £5 million in bail, around $6.7 million, to continue his tour.
#4: CeeLo Green
From Gnarls Barkley to his own solo work, the musician produced one era-defying single after another. However, the cracks began to show in 2011 when he used a homophobic insult to a journalist who criticized his live performance. The following year, Green was accused of intoxicating a woman and assaulting her. He pleaded no contest to giving her an illegal substance, earning him 3 years of probation. Shortly after, Green went on Twitter, now X, to rant that an assault victim isnt a victim if theyre unconscious. Yikes. The backlash caused the musician to delete his account as multiple concerts dropped him. Green was also replaced in 2015s Hotel Transylvania 2. Since then, Greens albums haven't even charted on Billboard 200.
#3: Chuck Berry
As the person behind 1958s Johnny B. Goode, Berry was a pioneer in rock and roll music. Yet, despite being a legend, his personal life was an entitled mess. In 1960, Berry was sentenced to 3 years in jail for trying to transport a minor across state lines for immoral purposes. Other legal issues continued to follow him, including being fined for attacking a woman in 1987. In 1990, Berry was sued by several women after they discovered cameras in the womens bathroom at his restaurant. When the rockstars home was raided, police found illegal substances and intimate images of women and underage girls. Berry, somehow, got off lightly again with a 6-month suspended sentence and ordered to donate $5000 to a hospital.
#2: Ike Turner
Having been responsible for giving Anna Mae Bullock the name Tina Turner, Ike seemingly believed she was his property. They originally performed together, earning a lot of success as they married. However, as Tinas name began to rise, behind the scenes, Ike had been violent towards her. This led to him attacking her in a limo in 1976. Soon after, Tina divorced Ike. However, due to the amount of debts and lawsuits transferred to her, she had to perform at small clubs to pay them off. Thankfully, she managed to pull herself out of that horrible situation and become an even bigger star on her own. Ike, on the other hand, never enjoyed the career heights he once enjoyed.
#1: Kanye West
No musicians success has gone to their head as much as it did with West. Famously known for comparing himself to religious figures and thinking he was entitled to overshadow Taylor Swifts 2009 VMA win, in recent years, the once well-respected rapper has descended into antisemitism. After praising the terrible legacy of dictator Adolf Hitler during an interview on InfoWars and saying a lot of horrible stuff on X in 2022, Wests business career started to crumble as brands dropped his fashion brand, Yeezy. In 2025, he turned it up by releasing offensive songs and merchandise with reprehensible imagery. West then announced hes no longer antisemitic. However, hes made this statement several times before regressing again. Only time will tell if it sticks.
