#10: “Captive State” (2019)

Throw as many cerebral sci-fi films at us as you’ve got. So long as they’re anywhere close to being as good as this trailer looks, we’ll watch every single one of them. Set in the near future, in the city of Chicago, “Captive State” presents an America that is apparently free of crime, poverty, and unemployment. Sounds great right? But that’s only the result of an extraterrestrial occupation here on planet earth, which means that these so-called improvements came at the expense of freedom. Starring John Goodman and Vera Farmiga, this has the makings of a potentially great film.

#9: “Mary Poppins Returns” (2018)

She’s baaaaack! It’s with great trepidation that we approach any sequel to a cherished childhood classic, but even amongst the ranks of untouchable films, “Mary Poppins” remains a standout. With this first trailer for the film however, we are officially sold. Emily Blunt not only looks the part, but she lives and breathes the role. From her grand entrance and her interaction with the now-adult Banks children, through to the magical adventures she takes the children on, Emily Blunt’s Mary Poppins is flawless. Add to that the use of 2d animation, the songs and the overall nostalgic feel, and you’ve got one seriously successful trailer.

#8: “Kingdom Hearts III” (2019) - Big Hero 6 Trailer

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom - Satisfying Sequel Or Crappy Cash Grab? Mojo @ The Movies Review

Oh how they have made us wait! We’ve gotten numerous trailers for this highly-anticipated instalment in the fan-favorite franchise, “Kingdom Hearts”. And yet, they never get old. Each new trailer brings with it another reason to get excited, and in this particular case, it’s us getting our first proper look at the characters and setting of “Big Hero 6”. Suffice it to say, the critically-acclaimed Disney film is clearly a fantastic addition. After Baymax and Hiro’s introduction, this trailer also reminds us of just how many famous faces and worlds we’ll be interacting with in this game. Monsters Inc., Tangled, Toy Story… January 2019 can’t get here soon enough.

#7: “The Favourite” (2018)

Yorgos Lanthimos is a director unlike any other. After coming to the attention of western audiences with his first English language film, “The Lobster” in 2015, he followed it up in 2017 with the equally challenging, bleak and unnerving film, “The Killing of a Sacred Deer”. Now he’s taking his distinct brand of filmmaking to early 18th century Great Britain with the help of a powerhouse trio of actors: Olivia Colman, Emma Stone and Rachel Weisz. From the looks of this trailer, he’s infused the historical drama with his trademark jet-black humor, which only serves to heighten the tension in this manic story of jealousy, bitter rivalry and mutually-assured destruction. We can’t wait.

#6: “The Romanoffs” (2018-)

Top 10 Trailers of February 2018

It might not fill the void left by “Mad Men”, but knowing that the same show creator is behind this new Amazon original series definitely gives us hope for something great. “The Romanoffs” is an anthology series that explores the lives of various people, all connected in their shared belief that they are descendants of the Russian royal family executed in 1918 by the Bolsheviks. This trailer presents the show as a distinctly odder series than “Mad Men”, but one that offers a unique exploration of interpersonal dynamics, family and identity. Of course, the impressive cast on display certainly doesn't hurt.

#5: “Halloween” (2018)

Top 5 Things We Want to See in Halloween (2018)

Many a film series has gone astray, but there’s always time for them to find their way again. After numerous less-than-stellar sequels and a divisive reboot, the “Halloween” franchise is returning to its narrative roots with a sequel that largely ignores everything after the first film or two. This might not be the first trailer we’ve seen for the movie, but it’s certainly the most compelling and revealing. That long tracking shot of Michael feels like a moment worthy of the original film, while little touches like the handful of bloody teeth make the whole thing feel inspired and fresh. It’s not “Halloween” without Jamie Lee Curtis and thankfully, this trailer puts Laurie Strode front and center.

#4: “The Haunting of Hill House” (2018-)

Super Bowl Movie Trailers You Should Be Excited About! - Mojo Talks

With the success of “American Horror Story”, there seems to be a renewed interest in horror television, which has certainly been shaking things up in the genre. In October 2018, Netflix is bringing us an adaptation of the 1959 gothic horror novel, “The Haunting of Hill House”, and from the looks of this trailer, it promises to be engrossing AND terrifying. The series explores the story of five children who grew up in an exceptionally haunted house. The trailer gets under your skin right from the start, teasing one horrific moment after another, as well as plenty of looming dread. Just imagine the horrors that await in 10 full episodes.

#3: “Luigi’s Mansion 3” (working title) (2019)

This one is admittedly more about the announcement than the trailer itself, but talk about big news! For the Castlevania character reveals of Simon And Richter Belmont, Nintendo spoofed the Luigi’s Mansion series and had the younger of the two Mario Bros. meet a grisly fate. Though Luigi might live in his brother’s shadow, the internet response made one thing perfectly clear: people LOVE Luigi. Concern over his apparent demise arguably overshadowed the Belmonts, forcing Nintendo to clarify that it was just a joke and that he’s fine. Just one month later, we’ve gotten our first peak at a new Luigi’s Mansion game. Luigi fans rejoice, another spooky fun-filled adventure awaits!

#2: “Captain Marvel” (2019)

Top 10 Epic Moments In Captain Marvel

From the moment that she goes crashing into a Blockbuster Video, Captain Marvel makes it perfectly clear that she’s bringing us something special with her solo debut. We’ve eagerly awaited this trailer and it delivered in every way. The trailer teases a story involving amnesia, a Skrull invasion and one seriously powerful intergalactic hero. Brie Larson owns the role, proving in this first short teaser that she is capable of playing Carol Danvers as both a complete badass and a nuanced, complex character. We get to see Danver’s trademark photon blasts, a Young Nick Fury and plenty of moments in space. Also, Captain Marvel punches an old lady in the face! Marvel, you’ve got our attention. Before we unveil our top pick, here are a few honorable mentions “Resident Evil 2” [Video Game] (2019) - Story Trailer “Daredevil” (2015-) Season 3 Teaser “The Ballad of Buster Scruggs” (2018)

#1: “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina” (2018-)

We know what you’re thinking: how did this top “Captain Marvel”? The aforementioned trailer, though highly anticipated, was every bit as awesome as expected. But that’s the thing, we expected nothing less. We’ve been curious about this dark spin on “Sabrina the Teenage Witch” since it was first announced, but we didn’t know what to expect, and NOTHING could have prepared us for this trailer. “Riverdale” was billed as modern, sexy, dangerous and dramatic; our first look at “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina” makes the aforementioned series look tame by comparison. This is like “Riverdale” meets “American Horror Story”, and we can’t WAIT to see more. Also, who knew that Happy Birthday could be so freaking creepy?
