Top 10 TV Best Friends With the Best Chemistry

Welcome to MsMojo, and today we’re counting down our picks for the TV BFFs that are not only total friend goals, but also seem like they could be just as close off-screen.

#10: Will Truman & Grace Adler

“Will & Grace” (1998-2006; 2017-20)

Watching the dynamic of the four main characters in this show is both heartwarming and hilarious. While we love Jack and Karen, it’s the two titular characters that will stand the test of time. Grace and Will have an unbelievably tight bond, as they live together throughout the show and have been joined at the hip since their college days. Despite their ups and downs as friends and the differences between them, the revival of the series assured us that their friendship is enduring. We love watching them on-screen.

#9: Jerry Seinfeld & George Costanza

“Seinfeld” (1989-98)

While Jerry’s friendships with Kramer and Elaine are undeniably full of great moments, his friendship with George truly stands out. Friends since high school, the two have gone through it all together, from career changes, to relationship struggles, to ending up behind bars. They seem to be more like family than friends. When together, they’re able to make mundane events seem more interesting and fun. Their friendship looks so fun that it makes us wish we were looking for our car or waiting to get into a Chinese restaurant with them.

#8: Ilana Wexler & Abbi Abrams

“Broad City” (2014-19)

Considering this show is based on the pair’s real-life friendship, it’s no wonder it comes across as super genuine. Ilana and Abbi’s story is about the two finding themselves with the help of each other as they navigate their lives in New York City. As is the case with so many iconic duos, Ilana and Abbi are different in many ways. Ilana is a free spirit and Abbi is much more down to earth, keeping each other balanced. They’re little ‘codees’, which means they’re just a tad codependent, but it works for them and it’s great.

#7: Troy Barnes & Abed Nadir

“Community” (2009-15)

Plenty of friendships were formed when this study group came together. Troy and Abed’s won’t soon be forgotten. Throughout the show, we see them grow so close that they eventually live together and host their own morning show alongside one another. It’s clear that they couldn’t be more opposite, with Troy as the cool, laidback jock and Abed being the semi-genius with a nerdy side. They’re hilarious to watch together, and it’s heartbreaking seeing them part ways near the end of the series, but we can at least find comfort in knowing that their friendship can withstand anything.

#6: Cristina Yang & Meredith Grey

“Grey’s Anatomy” (2005-)

There’s nothing quite like work besties, are we right? There’s just something about spending all working hours with people and going through things together that only those people can understand. This is the case for Cristina and Meredith, who meet in the first season of the show as surgical residents at Seattle Grace Hospital. We see them grow from acquaintances to die-hard best friends, helping each other through tough work situations and all kinds of relationship problems. Who could forget Cristina’s speech to Meredith about her being the sun? We’re sobbing.

#5: Nick Miller, Schmidt, & Winston Bishop

“New Girl” (2011-18)

The core premise of “New Girl” is the power of friendship, no matter how unconventional the relationship may be. While Jess and Cece are adorable BFFs who we’d love to hang out with, the relationship between Jess’s roommates is the one to envy. Not only are Nick, Schmidt, and Winston hilarious, but it’s clear that their bond can survive the tough stuff. Despite Nick being a bit aimless, Schmidt being arrogant at times, and Winston having some unique quirks, they’re always able to find common ground. That’s what makes their friendship so authentic and relatable.

#4: John Dorian & Christopher Turk

“Scrubs” (2001-10)

In another roommate-turned-best friend scenario, this “Scrubs” duo shows off their close relationship in unconventional and touching ways. Throughout the series, they show the audience that men can have affectionate bonds with their pals. J.D. and Turk share adorable nicknames and inside jokes. Their friendship definitely lightens up their sometimes solemn job at Sacred Heart Hospital. Every time we hear the word “eagle,” we can’t help but picture J.D. jumping on Turk’s back. This is a moment that solidifies them as one of the most iconic bromances to ever grace our TV screens. They’ve got serious guy love, and we’re so here for it.

#3: Ann Perkins & Leslie Knope

“Parks and Recreation” (2009-15)

There are so many fun besties on this show. We love Ron and April’s unlikely bond, or Ben and Chris’s working friendship, but no one has better chemistry than Ann and Leslie. While they are opposites, they balance each other out very well. As their friendship grows stronger, so does Ann’s desire to get involved with her community thanks to Leslie. In turn, Ann helps Leslie realize the importance of having a personal life outside of work. They help each other grow and cheer one another on through their successes. It’s all we can ask for from these legendary BFFs.

#2: Charlotte York, Miranda Hobbes, Samantha Jones, & Carrie Bradshaw

“Sex and the City” (1998-2004)

We love a classic girl gang, and there isn’t one more infamous on the small screen than this one. Carrie, Samantha, Miranda, and Charlotte may have met in adulthood, but really they grew up together. They’ve stayed consistently close through marriage, kids, divorce, death, and everything in between. They’re more family than friends. We’d love to gossip and sip on cosmopolitans with them any day. Not to mention, their friendship has endured one series, two movies, and a spin-off, all spanning several decades. So we can’t see them not being friends any time soon, even if Samantha’s presence as a main character is missed on “And Just Like That…”

Before we unveil our top pick, here are a few honorable mentions.

Shawn Spencer & Burton Guster, “Psych” (2006-14)

These Ride-or-Dies Make the Show Great

Kat Edison, Sutton Brady, & Jane Sloan, “The Bold Type” (2017-21)

We Love a Girl Gang That Supports Each Other Through It All

Scott McCall & Stiles Stilinski, “Teen Wolf” (2011-17)

These Hilarious Besties Have Been Joined at the Hip Through All of their Wolf Adventures

Derek Morgan & Penelope Garcia, “Criminal Minds” (2005-)

On a Show as Dark as This One, We’re Grateful for Their Friendship

Jake Peralta & Charles Boyle, “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” (2013-21)

They’re Just a Little Obsessed With Each Other & We’re Just as Obsessed With Them

#1: Joey Tribbiani & Chandler Bing

“Friends” (1994-2004)

Considering the name of the show, it’s no surprise that our favorite duo had to be given our top slot. “Friends” has one of the best friend groups in television history. Joey and Chandler’s bond is particularly special. They are definitely roommate goals, spending most of their time together playing foosball and hanging out in the chairs watching “Baywatch.” But, their friendship is anything but superficial, as they share their vulnerabilities and confide in one another whenever they’re going through something. They’re the type of friends that can laugh together and cry together. Could we BE any happier that they have each other?
