Top 10 TV Moments of 2015

These are this year's YouTube-worthy moments from the Boob Tube. Join http://www.WatchMojo.com as we count down our picks for the Top 10 TV Moments of 2015. For this list, we’re counting down the most iconic scenes that the small screen had to offer in 2015, whether it was late night, primetime or a sporting event. However, since we’re giving away crucial moments in some scripted series, a SPOILER ALERT may be necessary.

#10: Amy and Sheldon Break Up “The Big Bang Theory” (2007-)

You could say the tension began when Sheldon referenced “The Flash” during a make-out session in the Season 8 finale… however, such an inadvertent act of supreme geekdom represented larger problems, at least from Amy’s perspective. After five long years, a brief Skype session marked the end of a wonderful TV romance, and as a heart-breaking montage closed out the season in May, the laughs turned to tears as viewers connected with two characters trying to understand themselves and their place in the world. But if experts are to be believed, Shamy's won't to be divided for long... wink wink.

#9: Bautista Bat Flip 2015 American League Division Series

In the decisive Game 5 of the 2015 American League Division series, Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Jose Bautista saved the season by launching a ball into the left field seats - but it was his monstrous flip of the bat that sparked a debate about baseball ethics. If you’re a millennial, well, you probably think Bautista’s “swag” makes the game more exciting. However if you’re a baseball purist, you realize that Bautista can probably expect a fastball under the chin sometime in the near future. Regardless of your opinion, the bat flip was a defining moment of the MLB playoffs, even if the would-be champs, the Kansas City Royals, eventually took down Toronto in the ALCS.

#8: Werner Herzog “Parks and Recreation” (2009-15)

Widely regarded as one of the finest auteur filmmakers in the history of cinema, Werner Herzog has also earned a reputation as someone that might be the leader of a strange cult or secret society. Then again, he understands his unique public persona, which made him an ideal casting choice to play a creepy homeowner in the premiere episode of “Parks and Recreation”’s final season. Ok, maybe April and Andy weren’t exactly charmed by the character’s history lesson, but just look at the man’s face and tell us that he wouldn’t have the time of his life at Disney World. While 2015 brought the end of the show, it was also the year in which writer/producer Harris Wittels passed away at only 30 years of age.

#7: Donald Trump Calls Mexicans ‘Rapists’ National TV

In the spectrum of the American political system, there are those who pay special attention to each and every word spoken. Then there is Donald Trump, a man committing to keeping it real, flawed as his thinking may be. For example, when Trump announced his decision to run for President, he categorized an entire section of people as criminals and rapists, followed by a matter-of-fact, backhanded compliment. Needless to say, the comment didn’t go over particularly well, but in a time when voters need to be entertained, Trump continues on as one of the Republican frontrunners.

#6: SNL 40th Anniversary “Saturday Night Live” (1975-)

How do you top the ratings of the “Friends” series finale? Well, you don’t … unless you can assemble the world’s greatest comedians for a celebration of perhaps the most popular sketch comedy series of all time. In February 2015, NBC aired a 3 ½ hour special for “Saturday Night Live”’s 40th anniversary, complete with a red carpet event filled with poignant, comedic and sometimes awkward interviews. Eighty performers appeared in the opening sequence, and while the show had obvious low points and high points, the overall experience reminded all of “SNL”’s past and what made Lorne Michaels’ series so important to begin with. 40 years strong and is still socially relevant, as even a presidential candidate hosted “SNL” in 2015.

#5: “Mad Men” Finale “Mad Men” (2007-15)

For nearly eight years, we grew to love the personalities of AMC’s ‘60s-era drama, and season after season, fans contemplated the fate of one Don Draper. Would he plunge to his death from a Manhattan skyscraper? Or was he actually D.B. Cooper? Of course, by now we know the truth, and like all of us, Don was just looking for peace and love …and maybe a little prosperity as well. Then again, “Mad Men” represented more that just the ideals of Mr. Draper, as the entire ensemble connected with viewers in one way or another, and it was Peggy Olson’s iconic walk down the hallway of McCann-Erickson that suggested she may have been the true star all along.

#4: Jon Stewart’s Last Show “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart” (1999-2015)

Believe it or not, there once was a time when we knew Jon Stewart as that guy from “Half Baked” and “Big Daddy.” But in 1999, the comedian began to consistently blow our minds on a nightly basis as the snarky host of Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show.” But among all the laughs and jabs at politicians, it quickly became clear that Stewart was more than just an entertainer – he was someone that challenged the perspectives of a younger demographic, both within America and beyond. So, when Stewart’s final episode aired on August 6, 2015 after 16 years as host, people young and old fondly reminisced on perhaps the most beloved political commentator of the digital age.

#3: Glenn! “The Walking Dead” (2010-)

In a show about the zombie apocalypse, there aren’t a whole lot of characters that embrace their humanity quite like Glenn Rhee, husband of Maggie and noted rational thinker. So the world cried a little bit when that damn Nicholas shot himself, thus leaving Glenn to be sucked away by the parade of walkers – also an iconic TV moment - and devoured in a slow, agonizing death. Nobody is safe on “The Walking Dead” – nobody - but let’s all take a moment to remember that this is, in fact, a stylized television show, and The Walking Dead's writers did not leave us hanging on Glenn's fate.

#2: Massacre at Hardhome “Game of Thrones” (2011-) If character deaths on “The Walking Dead” inspire a collective “F*****KKKK,” the finale of “Hardhome” left viewers frozen in awe. From beginning to end, this episode had the appearance of a cinematic event – an experience that you don’t typically expect from the comfort of your living room. Of course, the most iconic moment came when The Night’s King essentially made Jon Snow and company wet themselves as the Wights rose from the dead. And we were all pretty freaked out too as this moment was completely insane, along with the controversial Season 5 finale and certainly the moment when Sansa Stark was victimized by her own husband. Before we unveil our top pick, here are a few honorable mentions. - Hallway Fight “Daredevil” (2015-) - 100th Episode “My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic” (2010-) - Peeno Noir “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” (2015-) - The Entire Episode of “Connection Lost” “Modern Family” (2009-) - One Last Drink with Kalinda “The Good Wife” (2009-) - ‘Oh, and Anika…THIS is an ass.’ “Empire” (2015-) - Nicki Minaj Disses Miley Cyrus 2015 MTV Video Music Awards
