We’re starting things of with a more recent game that looks like a retro game. In a partially sunken submarine, the titular hero has to dig into the depths of the ship as well as venture onto the ocean floor. Along the way you have to deal with Hermit Crabs that have the bounciest shells ever, and pogo jump off the backs of electric eels to take on the harpoon happy Treasure Knight. Oh hey a treasure chest at the bottom of the ocean, I’ll just help myself and OH MY GOD IT’S AN ANGUALR FISH! RUN!

This is not the first time the Call of Duty has lead you underwater, but this is the most extensive outing for sure. The player is deployed into the Atlantic Ocean where they must sink a vessel guarding a weapons factory. In scuba gear, you’ll swim through coral reefs and around sea life as you kill enemies with high-tech underwater guns. But be careful as guys with guns are the least of your problems down here: stay sharp, or you may end us as shark food.

The main feature for this game is that the water level in this world changes depending on either how high you jumped into the world’s painting, or by touching several Crystal Taps scattered around the course. Guide Mario through these aquatic ups and downs as he gathers Stars by visiting every inch and corner of the level, finding secrets hidden in objects, taking elevators, and top off your trip by blasting through the cannon to visit the hidden underwater city.
#7: Sink or Swim “Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception” (2011)
Taking place on the luxury-turned-pirate ship The Seaward, Nathan Drake searches for his buddy Sully,. Upon realising he was never there, Drake shoots the pirate leader and blows a hole in the ship, which he quickly regrets. What follows is shootout in a capsizing ship, with water pouring in from all sides. This is followed by a spectacularly desperate escape in true Uncharted fashion while the ship is on it’s side as the water keeps on coming. Hold your breath Nate.
#6: Aquas “Star Fox 64” (1997)
Out of the Arwing and into the water as Fox McCloud hits the water in this oceanic world known as Aquas in the Blue-Marine, a submarine designed by Slippy. You’ll navigate through murky waters in search of Andross’ bio-weapon, shooting your way through various forms of mutated sea life, ending up in pitch black polluted waters after also coming across ruins of an ancient civilization. Just watchout for those exploding starfish, those things can really mess up your ride.
#5: The Water Temple “The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time” (1998)
The Most Difficult Dungeon In Video Game History
This aggravating yet awesome temple from Ocarina of Time serves as the source of the curse that has frozen Zora’s domain. With multiple floors to explore, you’ll gain access to each by raising and lowering the water level. With the Zora Tunic equipped allowing for underwater breathing, Link must use the Iron Boots, which enable him to walk along the bottom of the water. It’s admittedly a tedious venture but it has the most memorable mini-boss fight in the game against Dark Link, the hero’s evil doppelganger.
#4: Jolly Roger’s Lagoon “Banjo-Tooie” (2000)
It’s fun for the whole family. Jolly Roger’s Lagoon is a quaint little seaside village overlooking a lagoon run by Mayor Jolly Roger, a quirky and flamboyant frog. But the real star of this stage are the mystery’s you find in the little waterhole that turns into a giant underwater labyrinth, where you find Jolly Roger’s partner in the Big Fish’s mouth, a crashed UFO that runs on … ice and fight the giant anglerfish who resides in Davy Jones' Locker.
#3: Bubble Man’s Stage “Mega Man 2” (1988)
This dynamic, water-themed stage sees the player control Mega Man as he jumps across platforms with waterfalls in the background as mechanical frogs bombard him with their attacks. Make sure to dodge those robotic crabs as you head underwater, where you’ll meet angler fish spewing forth mechanical shrimp to hinder your progress. Navigate through the rest of the level by avoiding the spikes on the ceiling, which is a pain in the arse since they can kill you in one hit and are everywhere. Still, a fun stage none the less.
#2: Seventh Colossus “Shadow of the Colossus” (2005)
This is a game that features a series of epic boss battles, each as awe-inducing as the next, and this aquatic encounter is no exception. Grab your horse and make your way to a murky lake where you’ll spot some shining lights in the water: a massive, electric eel like create awaits. Dive in and swim up to the colossus to commence this rigorous battle, where you’ll have to grab on its hairy tail while avoiding its electric spikes. Hold on for dear life as it dives deep into the depths of the lake. #1: Coral Capers “Donkey Kong Country” (1994)
As soon as that beautiful atmospheric music hits and you’re swimming as a Kong, you know you have something special and memorable on your hands. Coral Capers is the first underwater level in the game, and it just might be the best, with vicious sea life out to get our poor monkey pals. You’ll encounter the piranha-like Bitesizes, the sharks known as Chomps and of course those scary Croctopuses. You also first meet your swordfish here Enguarde here, as he can pierces his way through enemies, helping our duo fight back and make this trip a memorable experience. Disagree with our picks?
