Top 10 Villains Who Could Have Great Origin Movies

You’d be forgiven if you thought this once masterful horror franchise was done for good. Even though the early 21st century installments of the franchise have been straight-to-DVD releases, there’s still a chance that a reboot could bring the series back to glory. And what better way to do that than with an origin story of its big bad, Pinhead? The gruesome effects in the first few films are terrifying, and with a big budget, there’s no doubt that the otherworldly villain and his Cenobites could strike fear into the hearts of new audiences. There’s been a bit of origin given to him over the years, but not a movie fully devoted to it. And we think it’s time.

If there’s one thing that could be improved in this epic fantasy series, it would be giving the villain more screen time. Being the center of all conflict during the films, it’s surprising that we don’t know much about the person who created the One Ring, or even if he’s a person at all. While some people got burned out on this series during “The Hobbit,” we’re not suggesting another trilogy. But a singular movie that explores Sauron’s desires and subsequent transition into villainy could make for quite the experience. And having seen the vast battle sequences throughout these films, imagine what one would be like with Sauron actually there.

While he may have only appeared in two out of five films in the franchise - not including post-credits scenes - as of 2017, there’s no denying that Bill Nighy’s portrayal is one of the highlights of the series. This tentacle-faced villain would’ve stopped at nothing to get Jack Sparrow’s soul, but it was his relationship with the sea goddess Calypso that made him such an interesting antagonist. His origins as a human are touched on briefly, with the betrayal at the hands of his lost love being the reason he becomes a monster in the first place. Exploring this loss of humanity could be fascinating and breathe life back into the films. Sometimes to move forward, you have to go backward.

While book readers may know where Pennywise the Dancing Clown came from, theatergoers certainly don’t. The 2017 reboot told us that he was at the founding of the town of Derry, but he is much older than that. It’s possible that the 2019 sequel will touch upon the demon’s beginnings, but it’s unlikely that the filmmakers will be able to fit in everything from Stephen King’s gigantic novel. The original 1990miniseries left a legacy of coulrophobia – the fear of clowns. And with the box office achievements of the remake, we can’t see why Warner Bros. wouldn’t want to explore the origins of this classic horror nightmare.

What better Batman villain to get their own origin story than the one who trained the Dark Knight himself? As the man in charge of the League of Shadows, Ra’s knows all manner of fighting styles. More interestingly though, is that he’s been alive for centuries through the use of the Lazarus Pits. An origin story could show his rise as the organization’s leader as well as how he found the Lazarus Pits. Also, unlike many of the caped crusader’s foes, Ra’s and his assassins believe that what they do is for the greater good of humanity. This adds an extra layer of depth to the character worth digging into.

A Bumblebee spin-off is already in the works, so why not a Megatron origin story? There would be so much to explore outside of what makes Megatron the evilest robot around. Audiences would be able to see where the Autobots and Decepticons came from, as well as the conflict that started their war in the first place. It could be argued that we don’t need any more movies in this franchise, but building a story around the main villain could bring us some new story ground to cover. Plus, 5 movies in as of 2017 and they are still making a ton of money at the box office, meaning audiences are still willing to see more.

As one of the most recognizable figures in horror, we have to ask ourselves, “How has this not happened yet?” The basic story is already there: he was a child murderer before being killed by a group of parents and turning into the nightmarish teen stalker. But we’ve only glimpsed the beginning of malice in a couple of films. His origin would be dark, to say the least, since Krueger murdered children. But if “IT” can work, why can’t this? And as a series that’s been silent for far too long now, this demonic slasher is begging for a reintroduction to the world.

If you’ve only seen the movies, you may only be vaguely aware of who Thanos is. But for comic fans, he is one seriously bad dude. While an origin story for Loki could be interesting, he’s already gotten plenty of screen time. And as the overall villain of the MCU, we’d like to see a bit more of The Mad Titan. In comics like “The Infinity Gauntlet,” Thanos shows he is willing to destroy anyone to become a God. It’s unclear how much of his backstory we’ll get in 2018’s “Avengers: Infinity War” and its sequel. But we think the creation ofbeing this evil needs to be seen on the big screen.

Ah, the mastermind behind the tragic downfall of Anakin Skywalker. How could you not want to see an origin for this classic villain? While a Darth Maul film could also be entertaining, we’d love to see one for the series’ main villains. In Episode I, no one knows that Palpatine is evil. And if you tell the story of when he was an apprentice, we’d see him training in secret as there would be countless Jedi around. This could make for an incredible thriller. Plus, “Rogue One” was immensely successful and there are already more spin-offs on the way. It should only be a matter of time before Darth Sidious gets his turn.

This one really seems like a no-brainer given the massive following behind the series and the success of its spin-off films. Not to mention the fact that most of Voldemort’s horrific origins were left out of the adaptation of the sixth book. He’s an incredibly imposing figure and Ralph Fiennes’s performance is impressive to say the least. But there’s still so much more to be explored with the character. Not only would we able to see where this dark wizard came from, but also his rise to power and the creation of the horcruxes. Come on, Warner Bros. Give the people what they want.
