Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we’re counting down our picks for the strangest, most bizarre, and bonkers intimate romantic scenes between characters in TV shows. We’ll explore the incident and see what made it so weird. Beware, there might be spoilers. What streaming service film or TV sex scene did you find most disturbing? Let us know below!

#10: Jocelyn & Tedros

“The Idol” (2023)

“The Idol” is one of the most controversial shows in recent memory. With a hyperfixation on sexuality and pushing audience boundaries, the whole show can be summed up by an infamous sex scene in the episode “Double Fantasy” that went viral on social media. During the scene, Lily-Rose Depp’s Jocelyn is blindfolded as The Weeknd’s Tedros dictates what he wants her to do as he watches, like the creepiest and cringiest film director in history. On top of developing a load of memes to mock the show, this incident was also declared “the worst sex scene in history” by GQ and reportedly caused 100,000 viewers to not watch the next episode. Yikes.

#9: Veronica & Archie

“Riverdale” (2017-23)

In 2017, The CW took the charming and quirky Archie Comics and turned it into the hormone-raging teen drama. The final episode of Season 1 ended with a cliffhanger after KJ Apa’s Archie witnessed his father, Fred, played by Luke Perry, get shot. In the first episode of Season 2, we watch as Fred’s life hangs in the balance in the hospital. Archie leaves to change out his clothes laced with his father’s blood. As he showers the crimson down the drain, Camila Mendes’ Veronica, with likely the worst timing ever, decides to strip off -- yet keep her pearl jewelry on -- and get into the shower with Archie, which he reciprocates, for some reason.

#8: Laurel & Gareth

“BrainDead” (2016)

Food in the bedroom can be a fun addition for some. But instead of the classic strawberries, champagne, or whipped cream, 2016’s political sci-fi show “BrainDead” went in a very, very different direction for episode 6. With Mary Elizabeth Winstead’s Laurel under the effects of a mind-controlling bug, her friends help her to get it out. Aaron Tveit’s Gareth steps in for a more intimate approach. As the two get down in the bedroom, for extra dopamine, Laurel chomps on a block of chocolate and a whole salami. While Gareth is disturbed, Laurel offers him salami bites, which gets him back on track. Amazingly, the strange treatment works.

#7: Izzie & Denny

“Grey's Anatomy” (2005-)

With a show that’s been on as long as “Grey's Anatomy,” not every storyline will land. Sometimes, like this one, it can cause viewers to turn off. In Season 5, Katherine Heigl’s Izzie Stevens starts to see her love interest, Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s Denny Duquette. However, what makes it problematic is that he died in Season 2. While it later turned out that Izzie had brain cancer that was affecting her mind, at the time, she appeared to be getting steamy with a ghost. At one point, in the episode “In the Midnight Hour,” she VERY loudly wakes up her housemates, who believe she’s having a solo session. Only from Izzie's perspective, it was with Denny.

#6: Sonja & Hank

“Californication” (2007-14)

The cult classic series “Californication” had several in-your-face, controversial sex scenes. Yet, none matched up to the chaos of the Season 1 episode “Hell-A Woman.” After being set up by his ex with Paula Marshall’s Scientology character Sonja, David Duchovny’s Hank Moody soon warms to her. So much so that they get it on. However, a rough bump mixed with heavy intoxication caused Hank to fall over and hit a piece of artwork. As he examines it, he throws up on it. At that moment, everyone walks in to see the gross scene as Hank hides his modesty with the spoiled canvas. Later on, it turns out this messy moment may have led to getting Sonja pregnant, only for the baby not to be Hank’s.

#5: Sookie & Bill

“True Blood” (2008-14)

During its heyday, no TV show was as hormone-filled as “True Blood.” With a smorgasbord of scenes to choose from, we couldn’t ignore the one from Season 1’s “The Fourth Man in the Fire.” Devastated by the fiery demise of Stephen Moyer’s Bill Compton in the previous episode, Anna Paquin’s Sookie Stackhouse pays her respects at his grave with flowers. Yet, vampire Bill is okay and digs himself from the ground. Covered in dirt, the duo does the deed. Another infamous Bill love scene is Season 3’s “It Hurts Me Too.” He gets steamy with his vamp maker, Mariana Klaveno’s Lorena Krasiki. But, not wanting to look at Lorena’s face, Bill turns her head 180 degrees. Yikes.

#4: Flora & Cootie

“I’m a Virgo” (2023)

If you’ve ever watched a superhero flick and wondered how two powered folks navigate their abilities to get down and dirty, then 2023’s “I’m a Virgo” is for you. After all, it stars Jharrel Jerome as the 13-foot-tall Cootie and Olivia Washington as the superspeedy Flora. In the episode “Balance Beam,” the duo gets to work on how to make their intimate experience succeed. In a long segment, we see the adaptations required in how an average-sized woman can achieve such a feat with a really tall guy, without causing serious injury. It’s funny, awkward, and bizarre. Yet despite the absurd situation, it’s quite touching, too.

#3: Arya & Gendry

“Game of Thrones” (2011-19)

For several years, we’d watched Maisie Williams’ Arya Stark grow up in turmoil in “Game of Thrones.” By the final season, believing this could be her only opportunity before the White Walker attack, Arya decides to sleep with Joe Dempsie’s Gendry. And it was weird for the audience. We’d gone from watching her be a tween to being a hardened battler. Many watching felt uncomfortable witnessing Arya strip off. It was a feeling shared by Dempsie, who is 10 years older than Williams and had worked with her all this time. He stated in an interview that the anticipation of it happening in the books made him uncomfortable. However, the scene went off without an issue.

#2: Bilquis & Paunch

“American Gods” (2017-21)

If you read the “American Gods” novel, like us, you probably thought there was no chance the TV adaptation would include this scene. But they did, and it was more shocking than expected. In “The Bone Orchard,” the very first episode, Yetide Badaki’s Bilquis, the Old God known as the Queen of Sheba, meets Joel Murray’s Paunch on a dating app. Later, they go back to her place for some smooching and whatnot. Only, during the act, he begins intensely worshiping her. Which is weird, sure. It goes further when she sucks him inside. Yep. On the plus side, beyond giving us flashbacks to 2007’s “Teeth,” Pauch is later seen in a state of bliss. So, that’s nice.

#1: Termite & Peter

“The Boys” (2019-)

In a show that likes graphic… well, everything, “The Boys” was always going to be involved. In Season 3’s “Payback,” Brett Geddes’ Termite, who has the power to get small, shows us the unique way he gets intimate with a doll. He then repeats the performance on Jarrett Siddall’s Peter. Fuelled on illegal substances, Termite shrinks inside of Peter. As he’s exploring, Termite sneezes, causing him to suddenly return to normal size and destroy Peter. Oops. Another infamous and weird “The Boy’s” sex scene was in Season 1’s “Get Some.” Under the influence of Compound V, Brittany Allen’s Popclaw rides the face of her landlord, Christian Bako’s Aleksy Lutz, only to take it too far and squish his head. Double Oops.
