This Nintendo gaming console made motion controls a mainstream phenomenon. Welcome to Watchmojo, and today we’re counting down the Top 10 Wii Games. For this list, we’ve chosen Nintendo Wii titles based on their popularity and critical-acclaim. We’re excluding remastered Gamecube games, and restricting our choices to one game per series, although will be allowing multiple games from the same franchise that belong to different genres.

Hunting monsters has never been this fun. In “Monster Hunter Tri”, players assume the role of a monster slayer from the Guild. Your goal is to protect and rejuvenate the small fishing community of Moga Village; you’ll create items from the dropped loot, harvest plants, mine for ores, and forge items and weapons from the monster parts you acquire. With different weapon classes to suit your way of playing, as well as the ability to venture together with friends online, this game can really get you addicted.

Continuing the tale of the anti-hero assassin Travis Touchdown, “No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle” pits the player against multiple baddies in a battle to become the number one assassin in Santa Destroy … again. Gameplay offers fast weapon combat and quick time finishing moves, making this a unique 3rd person hack n’ slash experience. The sequel ups the ante with the possibility of wielding multiple swords this go around, adding to the smooth and excellent use of motion controls. With 2D minigames, funky music, awesome graphics and massive boss battles, “Desperate Struggle” shoots fountains of style.

Taking a classic NES formula and bringing it to the modern era, “New Super Mario Bros. Wii” sees our favourite plumber fight his way through Bowser’s henchmen to once again rescue Princess Peach. With new items such as the Ice Flower, the Propeller Mushrooms and the Penguin Suits, and the ability to play all 77 levels in CoOp with your friends, this re-tread of the old style is bursting with new tricks.

Bringing forth Shulk and his colourful crew as they seek to protect their homeland from the robotic creatures known as “Mechon”, players explore a gorgeous open world creatively built on the backs of 2 fallen titans. With an amazing sense of pacing, a deep battle system and awesome voiceover work – this gem brings together traditional and modern JRPG elements in epic fashion.

Though it was an almost guaranteed hit, the 6th instalment of the king of the karting games still delivered an endless amount of features and a wide variety of imaginative courses. There are plenty of novel ideas to go with this classic racing formula, as players can choose to compete with motorcycles in brand new and retro tracks. With over 35 million copies sold, “Mario Kart Wii” also has the honour of being the #1 best-selling racing game of all time.

If you owned a Wii, it’s very likely you also owned this game. “Wii Sports” brings together 5 mini games that accompanied every Wii upon launch. Grab your tennis racket, bowling shoes, boxing gloves, golf club and baseball bat as you compete to beat the top scores against friends and family. Intuitive controls and fun gameplay made every each game a blast to play. With Nintendo focused on more casual players, Wii Sports was a major financial success and lead to a second Wii Sports title, “Wii Sports Resort”, which offered even more activities to get your motion groove on.

If one game perfected the art of motion controls, it had to be this Wii gem. While we loved Twilight Princess, that game was originally made with the Gamecube in mind, Where as Skyward Sword was designed to make the best use out of the system. With its unique graphical style mixing up contemporary graphics and cel shading, Skyward Sword presents a host of collectibles, amazing dungeon design and some of the best boss battles in the series.

Get ready to get your brawl on! “Super Smash Bros. Brawl” presents your usual cast of Nintendo fighters along with some surprising new additions as they battle it out in this crossover fighting game.
