Top 10 Worst Lip Syncs on RuPaul's Drag Race UK

Welcome to MsMojo, and today we’re counting down our picks for the most underwhelming lip sync performances on the UK edition of “RuPaul’s Drag Race”. Spoilers abound, so this is your official warning!
#10: Krystal Versace vs. Ella Vaday vs. Kitty Scott-Claus
“Grand Finale”
The final lip sync is by far the most important of each season, as it gives the remaining queens a chance to prove why they deserve the crown and scepter. Many rise to the challenge, with several finale performances being considered some of the best. The third series of “RuPaul’s Drag Race UK,” however, went against the grain in every sense. The top three were tasked with performing Dusty Springfield’s “You Don’t Own Me”-- and it quickly went off the rails. Kitty Scott-Claus fell back on her humor, while Ella Vaday went for a performance so subdued that it went unnoticed. While Krystal injected some emotion into it, she primarily opted for anger– making her winning performance one-note in comparison to other champions.
#9: Lill[a] vs. Zahirah Zapanta
“Ghoul Power”
There’s nothing wrong with a slow burn— but eventually, you begin to wonder when exactly the temperature will be turned up. This was the case for the battle between Lill and Zahirah Zapanta during the sixth series of the show. While lip-syncing to Mabel’s “Don’t Call Me Up” in front of the artist herself, the queens both opted for relatively low-energy performances. Zahirah did her best to infuse tricks into her performance, but even they weren’t enough to catch Ru’s attention. Although still underwhelming compared to the track’s energy, Lill’s more simplistic moves helped lead her to the win that week. Zahirah may have sashayed away, but the real losers in this lip sync were the audience.
#8: Joe Black vs. Bimini
“Royalty Returns”
It’s always tough to see a legend go out on such a rough note. Though she’s beloved within the United Kingdom, Joe Black struggled to properly translate her art during her tenure on “Drag Race”. This was most evident during her lip sync against Bimini to Frankie Hollywood’s “Relax”. Joe’s attempts at incorporating comedic elements backfired– particularly during a segment where she seemed to give up for several seconds. While not every performance requires intense choreography to succeed, Joe’s lack of preparation was pretty evident. Bimini, on the other hand, wowed the judges with her tricks, but her performance here was far less polished than in subsequent episodes. Her extreme intensity and Black’s nonchalance clashed, making for an awkward, one-sided competition.
#7: Black Peppa vs. Pixie Polite
“Comedy Queens”
Given their prominence, you’d think a Queen lip sync, especially to “Another One Bites the Dust,” would bring out the best in the competition. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case. While Black Peppa didn’t do a bad job, it was her fourth time in the bottom– meaning the audience had already seen practically every stunt she had to show. Both she and her opponent, Pixie Polite, were missing the fire needed to truly convey the lyrics. That was only made worse after Pixie stumbled on stage and fell mid-song, a mistake she ultimately couldn’t come back from. This mishap ultimately sealed the already lackluster performance, and even an attempt at comedy wasn’t enough to save it.
#6: Starlet vs. Jonbers Blonde
“Yass-tonbury Festival”
If there’s ever a time to put your money where your mouth is, it's definitely while fighting for your place in the competition. During her short time on the show, Starlet had referenced her own goofy humor repeatedly. While it didn’t come through in the challenge, many wondered if she would use it to craft a comedic performance to “About You Now” after landing in the bottom two with Jonbers Blonde. Instead, Starlet largely stayed in one area of the stage while Jonbers frantically danced her heart out. The imbalance in their showings was stark, and Starlet’s lifeless dip at the very end unfortunately couldn’t do much to save her from sashaying away.
#5: Ginny Lemon vs. Sister Sister
“Morning Glory”
This was one of the most one-sided lip sync battles in the show’s history– literally. After earning a place in the bottom for the first time, Ginny Lemon was tasked to go up against Sister Sister. Rather than fight for her spot, she promptly walked off stage seconds after the song began. The moment shocked both the judges and other contestants, but the music kept playing– leaving Sister Sister to finish out the song alone. While she did a great job on her own, her performance had essentially been overshadowed by Ginny’s dramatic exit. This automatically granted Sister Sister the win– but some fans can’t help but wonder what the outcome would’ve been had her competition stayed.
#4: Lill vs. Chanel O’Conor [b]vs. Marmalade
“Stitch & Strut”
Some pop stars demand 100% energy during a lip sync of their song– and Kylie Minogue is definitely one of them. Fans thought they had hit the jackpot when it was revealed that three queens– Lill, Chanel, and Marmalade– would be lip-syncing for the win. Unfortunately, it was anything but. There seemed to be a lack of moves across the board, with all three opting to primarily strut rather than dance. Marmalade in particular looked bored throughout, making it hard for the audience to connect to any of their performances. Lill was the only one who seemed to be having fun, and her win was well-deserved– even if it wasn’t the most technically impressive showing.
#3: Choriza May[c] vs. River Medway
“Snatch Game”
You know a performance is rough when it results in the first double elimination since the show moved to the United Kingdom. The battle between Choriza May and River Medway was chaotic from the very first note of “Shout”. The former immediately lost her wig, and the latter removed her skirt shortly afterwards, leaving her only in tights– two cardinal sins during a lip sync. The rest of the performance felt frantic, especially with Choriza being unable to fully correct her previous mistake. Even though River gave it her all, it wasn’t enough– and her attempt at a split at the very end didn’t do much to sway Ru. It was the saddest possible end to both queens’ runs.
#2: Gothy Kendoll vs. Vinegar Strokes
“The Royal Queens”
The premiere should have been the perfect opportunity to showcase how sickening drag in the U.K. can be. Unfortunately, the first lip sync of the show ended up doing the exact opposite. Vinegar Strokes ultimately played it safe with her take on “New Rules” by Dua Lipa– but even that was miles ahead of Gothy Kendoll’s lackluster performance. Clearly out of her depth, Gothy resorted to miming the lyrics rather than dancing. It was clear she tried her hardest– but it wasn’t enough to save her, cementing her as the series’ Porkchop Queen. Gothy’s unintentionally funny choreography combined with Vinegar’s uninspired moves resulted in a poor representation of U.K. talent, nearly derailing the series right from its start.
#1: Scaredy Kat vs. Blu Hydrangea
“Downton Draggy”
A queen doesn’t necessarily need years of performing experience to succeed on “Drag Race”, but it’s hard to imagine competing with none at all. At 19, Scaredy Kat hadn’t had the opportunity to perform– meaning one of her very first was her lip sync against Blu Hydrangea. She took a highly literal approach to the song, resulting in her performance looking more like a joke than a serious attempt to stay in the competition. Even Blu– who brought much more to the table in terms of skill– looked stiff throughout. Both queens’ attempts at quirky, comedic moves fell flat, and although Blu pulled out the win in the end, there was a solid case for both of them to be sent home that night.
