Welcome to WatchMojo ,and today we’re counting down our picks for the top 20 must-see 2024 films. And while we don’t want to wait longer to see these movies, release dates may change. What’s your most anticipated movie for 2024? Let us know in the comments!

#20: “Argylle” (2024)

Release Date: February 2, 2024 Shortly after author Elly Conway learns that the spy thrillers she writes predict real events, she’s forced to go on the run to avoid those who would misuse her talents. And to make matters more complicated, she’s got to keep her cat safe too! The wacky plot will be supported by an absurdly stacked cast. Bryce Dallas Howard, Sam Rockwell, Bryan Cranston, Henry Cavill, Dua Lipa and more will all appear in the film. “Argylle” will also be directed by Matthew Vaughn of “Kingsman” fame. Since he has a knack for blending intense action with pure comedy, we’re expecting tons of thrills and laughs. With tons of talent in front and behind the camera, “Argylle” is poised to be an exciting and zany ride.

#19: Untitled Karate Kid Film

Release Date: December 13, 2024 Over the last six years, the smash hit “Cobra Kai” series has continued the “Karate Kid” franchise while bringing in legions of new fans. As the show prepares to end, the story is set to wax on the big screen in 2024. It was already exciting to hear that franchise star Ralph Macchio will bring Daniel Larusso back into cinemas. However, hearing that Jackie Chan’s “Mr Han” from the 2010 movie would also appear got fans even more pumped. While his film wasn’t universally loved, “Cobra Kai” has made underserved characters into fan favorites before. Whether Han allies with the original karate kid or fights Daniel on the mat, fans will show up to see what happens when these two icons meet.

#18: Untitled Jordan Peele Film

Release Date: Christmas 2024 Admittedly, there aren’t too many details available about the comedian turned horror master’s next project. But Peele’s resume in the genre is so solid that we’re still looking forward to it. Back in 2022, he gave us a terrifying alien film that was full of unique scares and sharp social commentary. Since Peele’s next movie is set to release on Christmas, we’re secretly hoping that the artist is going to give us an unsettling and hilarious holiday horror film. He could lean into the supernatural to give us another Krampus or go grounded like “Black Christmas” did. Whether Peele’s next project is draped in holiday lights or not, we can’t wait to see what the horror mastermind comes up with next.

#17: “Mean Girls”

Top 10 Anticipated Animated Movies of 2024

Release Date: January 12, 2024 We wouldn’t have blamed Paramount if they had just re-released the original 2004 high school comedy in theaters in time for its 20th anniversary. However, the company went above and beyond by putting a musical spin on the poignant and side splitting tale. The comedy will feature musical powerhouses like Reneé Rapp and Auliʻi Cravalho of “Moana” fame. Fans will also get to see seasoned vets like Tim Meadows and Tina Fey reprise their roles from the original. Although this “Mean Girls” musical might not get as much acclaim as something like “Sound of Music”, the comedy should contain enough campy fun to start the year off on an energetic note. Just don’t forget to wear pink to the premiere.

#16: “Mufasa: The Lion King”

Release Date: December 20, 2024 Despite being an iconic part of many childhoods, not much is known about Mufasa’s life before he became a lion king. The upcoming photorealistic 2024 film promises to finally expand upon the royal’s backstory. At the same time, we’ll learn how his brother became known as Scar. The film could adapt story elements and fantastic songs from shows like the “Lion Guard”. There’s also rumors that we might see how Mufasa’s son Simba is doing after becoming the new ruler. Admittedly, the 2019 film was criticized for following the original 1994 classic a little too closely. But since this movie will explore unknown territory, audiences might just feel that same sense of wonder they had for the original “Lion King” once more.

#15: “Ballerina”

Release Date: June 7, 2024 Set within the John Wick universe, this film will see Ana de Armas play a ballerina/assassin who gets vengeance against the people who slaughtered her family. “No Time to Die” proved that the actress can execute thrilling scenes. And audiences know by now that any “John Wick” universe film will feature incredible action sequences. The lead actress will also be joined by a great supporting cast. Franchise mainstays like Ian McShane’s Winston will appear alongside newcomers like “Walking Dead’s” Norman Reedus. And since this story is set in between the third and fourth John Wick films, we might get a scene stealing cameo from Keanu Reeves. The promise of slick action and great characters has us hyped to see this ballerina take center stage.

#14: “The Fall Guy”

Top 10 Most Anticipated Movies of 2024 That Are Not Sequels

Release Date: May 3, 2024 A stunt man named Colt is thrust into a world of real thrills when he’s forced to go undercover to find a missing lead actor. As he unravels the mystery, he must rely on his unique skill set to stay alive and save the movie. Since the first previews were full of humor, we love that Ryan Gosling will harness his physical talents and comedic timing to play Colt. In between shootouts and chases, he’ll try to salvage his relationship with a director played by the excellent Emily Blunt. It was obvious the two had chemistry in the trailers alone. We can’t wait to see them work together to unravel the mystery of the missing actor in this quirky action comedy.

#13: “Kung Fu Panda 4”

Top 10 Things Only Adults Notice in the Kung Fu Panda Franchise

Release Date: March 8, 2024 Everyone’s favorite anthropomorphic martial artist will make an energetic return to the big screen for a fourth outing. While the loveable Po has been known as the franchise’s chosen one, he’ll be teaming up with another destined fighter. Since he’ll have to face off against a villain who can revive other big bads, the panda will need the help. Although Po’s last film was in 2016, acclaimed shows like “The Dragon Knight” prove that the franchise is full of story potential. And with Jack Black back as Po, we know we’re in for a funny and charming lead performance. But what really makes us eager to see the film is the possibility that it could be the first franchise entry to win Oscar gold.

#12: “Nosferatu”

Release Date: Christmas 2024 Why should you be excited for a film centered around one of cinema’s oldest vampires? Well, for starters, Pennywise actor Bill Skargsard will take on the role of Nosferatu. Given the performer’s resume, he’ll create another iconic horror performance once he descends into the vampiric role. He’ll also share the screen with Nicholas Hoult and Willem Dafoe. And they’ll be directed by Robert Eggers, who notably helmed skin-crawling tales like “The Witch” and “The Lighthouse.” The filmmaker’s spectacular track record and dedication to getting this project made for almost a decade have us confident he’ll deliver a film full of passion and scares. “Nosferatu” has all the makings of an unforgettable horror movie that might just pack as much punch as the original.

#11: “Sonic the Hedgehog 3”

Top 10 Video Game References in Sonic The Hedgehog 2

Release Date: December 20, 2024 The blue blur hopes to complete a hat trick of strong live-action outings with a third sprawling adventure. While it’s unknown if Jim Carrey’s Robotnik will sit out this installment, we do know for certain that Shadow the Hedgehog will play a big role. This anti-hero is a massive fan favorite that has historically brought a little extra edge to the franchise. We admittedly loved how goofy the antagonists were in the first two movies. However, bringing in Shadow could shake up the formula and keep the series fresh. Outside of his appearance, the first two Sonic movies provided colorful action scenes and massive setpieces. We can’t wait to run, not walk, to theaters to see what the blue bomber has in store for us.

#10: “Furiosa”

Also in:

Everything We Know about the Mad Max Prequel Furiosa

Release Date: May 23, 2024 It was a lovely day when fans finally got their first peek at this “Mad Max” prequel. After the tough Furiosa became a breakout character in “Fury Road”, fans clamored for more of her. The upcoming prequel promises to explore how she became a badass post-apocalyptic warrior. It may also flesh out her character further by showing her more vulnerable side. While Anya Taylor-Joy will play the titular heroine, a savage Chris Hemsworth will play an intimidating Warlord. They’ll co-star in action scenes that might rival the sheer insanity that was on display during “Fury Road”. With director George Miller back at the helm of the franchise, we have no doubt that “Furiosa” will be a shiny and chrome prequel for the ages.

#9: “Wicked: Part One”

Also in:

Stars We Want Cast for the Wicked Movie

Release Date: November 27, 2024 Musical theater fans have been waiting since the early 2000s for this award-winning story to get the big screen treatment. Their patience will finally be rewarded with part one of an adaptation that explores how a certain green witch in Oz turned into one of its most wicked residents. Speaking of, the lead role of Elphaba will be played by Tony-award winner Cynthia Erivo. She’ll be accompanied by powerhouse singer Ariana Grande as Galinda. Oh, and did we mention that Jeff Goldbum will play the Wizard himself? Between the strong casting, superb source material and room to take their time with the story, “Wicked Part One” is bound to be utterly enchanting.

#8: “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire”

Also in:

Top 10 Smart Decisions in Godzilla Movies

Release Date: April 12, 2024 Back in 2021, two of the most popular kaiju of all time initially clashed to see who deserved to be called the king of the monsters. But they eventually put aside their differences to take down an out of control mechanized monstrosity. Now that Godzilla and Kong are basically best friends, they’re going to team up again to take on a mysterious new kaiju in “The New Empire”. Along the way, the audience will be treated to more secrets about how all these monsters came to be. We’re also interested to see if the filmmakers can top the jaw-dropping fight scenes from the 2021 film. And last but not least, we really want to meet the terrifying kaiju that can take on two titans.

#7: “Joker: Folie à Deux”

Also in:

Top 10 Movies to Watch if You Loved Joker

Release Date: October 4, 2024 Joaquin Phoenix blew audiences away with his layered interpretation of the clown prince of crime. After the film achieved massive box office access and netted its lead a Best Actor win, Warner Bros. greenlit an unorthodox sequel for the equally offbeat character. According to reports, “Joker: Folie à Deux” will be both a thriller and a musical film. Furthermore, Lady Gaga will appear as the clown’s longtime love interest, Harley Quinn. Both performers have proven before that they have the pipes to handle any musical challenges thrown their way. Additionally, it'll be interesting to take a deep dive into how their twisted relationship got started. October 2024 will reveal if this clown-centered sequel will hit all the right notes.

#6: “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire”

Also in:

Top 10 Ghostbusters Ghosts

Release Date: March 29, 2024 During the first trailer for this supernatural movie, audiences learned that a chilling new threat would place New York City within its icy grip. It will take a group of new and veteran ghostbusters everything they’ve got to save millions of people from a cold fate. The high stakes immediately drew us back into this beloved franchise. Not only does the threat feel bigger, but the icy visuals look pretty cool. Pardon the pun. In any case, we’re extremely excited to see the newbies from “Ghostbusters: Afterlife” reunite with the stars from the first film. Their united skills should be enough to make sure New York City and the franchise don’t stay on ice.

#5: “Inside Out 2”

Also in:

Top 10 Inside Out Easter Eggs You Missed

Release Date: March 29, 2024 In 2015, Pixar produced an animated masterpiece that followed the daily life of a group of five emotions as they tried to help a young girl named Riley navigate life. The film’s thoughtful message about accepting and respecting all of your feelings resonated with audiences of all ages. Nearly a decade after its release, Pixar will challenge audiences again by expanding the cast to include new emotions. The inclusion of Anxiety in particular will likely make for powerful and thought-provoking scenes. For some reason, we just have a strong feeling that this Pixar sequel will be one of the best and most emotional follow ups in the studio’s history.

#4: "Deadpool 3"

Also in:

SPOILER ALERT!! Deadpool 2 Review ft Double Toasted! (Mojo @ The Movies)

Release Date: July 26, 2024 If rumors are to be believed, the merc with a mouth’s MCU debut will feature Ben Affleck’s Daredevil, Taylor Swift as Dazzler, and pretty much every actor from the X-Men franchise. But whether or not all those things are true or not, this comedy’s got a lot going for it. Deadpool will return with Hugh Jakckman’s beloved Wolverine. Since this movie is under the MCU umbrella, it’s possible an Avenger or two could cameo. And the story shouldn’t have to hold back since it’s going to retain the R rating of the first two entries. All the pieces are in place for “Deadpool 3” to nail the superhero landing with a jam-packed third entry.

#3: “Beetlejuice 2”

Release Date: September 6, 2024 Since sequel talks for Tim Burton’s supernatural cult classic have been going on for 30+ years, most fans had given up hope. But someone must’ve said Beetlejuice 2 enough times to summon it. Winona Ryder and Catherine O’Hara will reprise their roles as Lydia and Delia Deetz respectively. Additionally, Willem Dafoe will join the cast as a supernatural detective alongside Jenna Ortega of “Wednesday” fame. And last but not least, Beetlejuice (insert broll) Sorry, that was the third time we said his name. In any case, the incomparable Micheal Keaton will return to his supernatural role. We’ll patiently read our copy of the Handbook for the Recently Deceased until this long awaited sequel finally crosses over into movie theaters.

#2: “Dune: Part Two”

Also in:

Top10 Reasons Why Dune WILL Be the Best Sci Fi Movie of the Decade

Release Date: March 1, 2024 Director Denis Villeneuve turned what was once thought to be an unfilmable story into a gorgeous sci-fi epic that left us thirsty for more. The last film ended right when the exiled royal Paul Atreides had found a new community on a desert planet. In the sequel, he swears to fight beside them in the present while struggling with his visions of the future. “Dune: Part Two” will up the ante of the first installment with bigger battles, ambitious scenery, and an expanded cast. It will also deepen our understanding of the universe as big forces of good and evil grapple over power. “Dune: Part Two’s” sheer scale, heavy themes, and stunning visuals should draw many moviegoers into this interstellar epic.
