Top 20 Best TV Kisses in the Rain
#20: Emily Thorne & Daniel Grayson
“Revenge” (2011-15)
We’ll see your kiss in the rain and raise you a proposal under an umbrella! The relationship between Emily and Daniel on “Revenge” is … complicated, to say the least. Emily (real name Amanda) initially targets him as a way for her to enact a complicated revenge plot against his mother. But along the way she does develop some real feelings for him. Now, it’s often hard to tell where the lines blur between the two. But there’s no denying the crystal clear chemistry permeating this moment. After a passionate declaration of love, Daniel proposes to Emily underneath an umbrella in the rain. She accepts, and they seal the deal with a smooch. While there are hard times ahead, there’s only beauty here.
#19: Wade Kinsella & Zoe Hart
“Hart of Dixie” (2011-15)
This one technically takes place after being caught in the rain, but these two are soaking wet, so we’re going to give it a shout. During a storm, Wade and Zoe end up in a barn (a great place for a make out session, if you ask us). The two have been struggling with their complicated developing feelings all season long, but here, they succumb to their desires and kiss. This later leads to a very sexy, intense love scene between the two. But while it wasn’t their first kiss, we’ll always love the short, sweet smooch in a barn for being the beginning to everything.
#18: Ted Mosby & Robin Scherbatsky
“How I Met Your Mother” (2005-14)
Ted Mosby falls hopelessly for Robin Scherbatsky practically from the moment they meet and spends most of the first season of “How I Met Your Mother” (and longer than you’d expect after that) trying to win her over. When Ted learns Robin is going on a company camping trip with a coworker who wants to date her, he learns to do a rain dance in the hopes that it will rain and the trip will get canceled. Thanks to the contrivances of television, this actually works and Ted and Robin become a couple at last, sealing it with a rainy kiss.
#17: Scott McCall & Kira Yukimura
“Teen Wolf” (2011-17)
This supernatural teen drama featured several rainy-day kisses to choose from in a single episode, and while Stiles and Malia’s was tempting, we went with the kiss between the eponymous adolescent werewolf Scott and his kitsune love interest Kira. With Kira having been away in New York, Scott is worried that she may have moved on after some miscommunication between them. However, when he arrives to find her in the middle of a stormy traffic jam, the pair reunite with a passionate, and thoroughly drenched, lip lock; putting his fears to rest.
#16: Peter Petrelli & Simone Deveaux
“Heroes” (2006-10)
The romance between these two was short-lived, but what a beautiful romance it was. Peter and Simone are initially in each others’ lives because of his job as her father’s nurse, but their relationship quickly grows beyond that. In season one’s third episode, a fight breaks out between Peter and his brother Nathan when Nathan tries to pass off Peter’s flight attempt as an attempt to take his own life. Peter walks away from his sibling, upset by the way he’s spun the narrative. Outside in the pouring rain, Simone appears with an umbrella in tow. She gives him shelter in more ways than one, expressing that she knows what’s real before they embrace. Can you say swoon?
#15: Jasmine Trussell & Crosby Braverman
“Parenthood” (2010-15)
Love can take time. Nobody knows that better than Jasmine and Crosby from “Parenthood.” At the beginning of the show, the old lovers are reunited when Jasmine reveals to Crosby that he has a kid, named Jabbar. Over the next couple seasons, the two have many ups and downs. But finally, near the end of season three, everything comes to a head. In the pouring rain, the two throw themselves at each other and into one more shot. It’s heartwarming stuff, made all the more so by everything they went through before getting here.
#14: Mary Crawley & Henry Talbot
“Downton Abbey” (2010-15)
For these two, timing is everything. This steamy alley kiss amid a downpour doesn’t really mark the start of Mary and Henry’s relationship, but rather the beginning of their game of back and forth. It takes place as he escorts her home, after the two speak intimately about the death of her first husband. You would think that a smooch as passionate as this one would be it for the pair, but it takes them a little bit longer to figure things out. Luckily for us, the “Downton Abbey” writers were kind enough to include moments like this in the interim.
#13: Dawson Leery & Joey Potter
“Dawson's Creek” (1998-2003)
We know, we know. On “Dawson’s Creek,” it’s all about Pacey and Joey, forget Dawson. Now, now, although we’re elated that Joey and Pacey end up together, Dawson does have his moments. This romantic season 2 kiss is undoubtedly one of the peak Dawson-Joey moments throughout the series. The energy between them, the lighting and framing, and everything else about it is just picture perfect. Granted, there’s other instances where the pair’s emotional and physical relationship goes further. Yet there’s something about the rainy backdrop that kicks off their reunion in this scene that makes their eventual embrace unforgettable.
#12: Seeley Booth & Temperance Brennan
“Bones” (2005-17)
Throughout much of “Bones,” fans were dying for Booth and Brennan to get together. Seriously, these two were one of the ultimate will they/won’t they couples on television. While this particular lip lock isn’t the first one that we see between them over the years, it is the earliest timeline-wise. While working on their first case, the two get drunk and smooch on a porch in the rain. But instead of staying together overnight, they part ways. It represents an ultimate “what could have been” moment, and the flashback gives us so much more insight into their relationship.
#11: Lucas Scott & Brooke Davis
“One Tree Hill” (2003-12)
There’s no denying that the love triangle between Peyton, Brooke, and Lucas was a huge part of “One Tree Hill”’s narrative in those earlier seasons. Well, Brucas shippers, this one’s for you. Season three is full of eventful moments for the love birds, and things get rocky, but this stormy episode functioned as a turning point. During a thunderstorm that makes all the power in Tree Hill go kaput, Brooke and Lucas duke it out in the rain. A knock out fight turns into a declaration of love, and they embrace in what must be one of the wettest kisses of all time. It’s such an intense moment, and it’s hard not to melt watching it.
#10: Aria Montgomery & Ezra Fitz
“Pretty Little Liars” (2010-17)
Speaking of tumultuous relationships, Aria Montgomery and Ezra Fitz have quite the roller coaster romance, with most of the drama stemming from the fact that they began it while he was her teacher. Let us just say, we are not excusing how totally inappropriate that is. While taking a break from one another after Aria’s parents discover their relationship, which they naturally object to, Aria leaves several voice messages for Ezra, asking if he still wants to be with her. They reunite in the rain and share a kiss that stops traffic. While we can see why some would object to such a relationship in real life, their kiss here is a diverting fantasy.
#9: Julie Taylor & Matt Saracen
“Friday Night Lights” (2006-11)
There’s nothing quite like a good, muddy smooch after a night of football. This “Friday Night Lights” game isn’t played on Dillon’s usual turf, but rather on ground that muddies up as soon as the rain starts pouring. Thankfully, the Panthers still take home the win, largely thanks to the leadership of QB1, Matt Saracen. Matt gets the greatest prize of all when Julie Taylor comes running down from the stands to celebrate the victory. She attacks him in the best way, knocking him down into the mud and kissing him soundly. Ah, young love!
#8: Matt Murdock & Karen Page
“Daredevil” (2015-18)
Look, we’re not saying that Karen Page and Matt Murdock are the end-all-be-all relationship in the Marvel Netflix universe. With Elektra and Frank Castle on the sidelines, there’s a lot to be discussed. But there is something incredibly sexy about the kiss Matt and Karen share in season two of “Daredevil,” and we think a lot of it has to do with the rain. At this moment, there aren’t really any words spoken between the pair, but they’re saying everything with their bodies. The actors' chemistry takes over the scene completely, and leaves us speechless.
#7: Miranda Hobbes & Steve Brady
“Sex and the City” (1998-2004)
Miranda is quite cynical about love and relationships, dismissing romantic clichés like happily ever after and kisses in the rain. Her disbelief is especially strong after she meets Steve, a bartender (who becomes her husband later on in the series, by the way). After meeting and having what she insists be a one-night stand, she is convinced to give him another shot, only to push him away again at lunch with her friends. However, when her cynicism is seemingly proved wrong, Miranda leaves the restaurant (which is named ‘Denial,’ as it happens), and rushes after Steve to apologize and kiss him in the rain.
#6: Alex Russo & Mason Greyback
“Wizards of Waverly Place” (2007-12)
Teenage female wizard Alex Russo starts dating Mason Greyback, a British exchange student with a passion for art who seems perfect for her in every way. However, Mason’s artistic enthusiasm for dogs puts Alex off a little and she uses her magical powers to make herself the source of Mason’s inspiration. Yet, Alex soon realizes, with some advice, that this isn’t the way to Mason’s heart and she removes the spell; leading to a kiss in the rain that washes away a mural Mason painted of her, though thankfully not the prospects for their relationship.
#5: Jim Halpert & Pam Beesly
“The Office” (2005-13)
This office romance swept us all off our feet! Jim Halpert and Pam Beesly are perfect together and we all knew it from the moment we saw them, even if it took a while for them both to figure things out. Once they started dating, it was only a matter of time before Jim popped the question. Pam pursues art school, leaving her separated from Jim and both of them feeling lonely. When they agree to meet halfway at a gas station in the pouring rain, Jim asks Pam to marry him. While the locale isn’t a traditionally romantic one, the pouring rain and their happy kiss still managed to give the moment a great mood all the same.
#4: Ross Geller & Rachel Green
“Friends” (1994-2004)
Another big will-they/won’t-they couple, Ross Geller and Rachel Green rarely get on the same page. The first season sees Ross pining, as he has for years, after Rachel when she comes back into his life. However, a trip abroad sees him return with a new girlfriend, and their roles reversed, with Rachel pining for Ross. A drunken phone call leads to Ross being made aware of this, and he and Rachel have a heated confrontation at the coffee shop that apparently ends with Ross storming out during a storm. Yet, he lingers at the door and when Rachel opens it again, their passionate kiss is the stuff of TV legends.
#3: Summer Roberts & Seth Cohen
“The O.C.” (2003-07)
When we think about the great kisses in cinematic history, one of them has to be the upside-down rain smooch between Mary Jane and Spider-Man in Sam Raimi’s 2002 film. But this beautiful recreation from Summer Roberts and Seth Cohen on “The O.C.” also deserves plenty of recognition, as it’s special in its own right. Sure, it echoes the “Spider-Man” scene pretty faithfully, with some liberties. But it does more than that. The emotion that builds as Summer arrives, finds Seth, and kisses him still has fans everywhere screaming for joy today. The spark between the couple is downright sweet, and this will forever be one of their most romantic moments.
#2: Nathan Scott & Haley James
“One Tree Hill” (2003-12)
A kiss in the rain is a rare and beautiful thing for most couples. Not so with Nathan Scott and Haley James. These two kissed in the rain practically once or twice a season on “One Tree Hill.” Whether they were recovering from a near-death experience, making up, or just making out, Naley are easily the couple on our list to kiss the most while in the rain. Yet each time they do it somehow feels like the very first, and is filled with the sort of love and passion that makes them one of the greatest teen drama couples of all time.
#1: Damon Salvatore & Elena Gilbert
“The Vampire Diaries” (2009-17)
A vampire love story for the ages, Damon Salvatore and Elena Gilbert have plenty of obstacles standing between them and happily ever after, both magical and mundane. One such hurdle is a case of missing memories. Elena tries to remember a certain memory when the two of them watched a meteor at a lake and were caught in a rainstorm. Although she can’t recall anything more and Damon tells her they left after it started raining, in truth, they shared a passionate kiss in the rain and promised to be together forever.
