Much like its owner, the trailer shows his machete from the previous film – a symbol of Rambo himself – hung up and seemingly retired. However, it isn’t far from reach. It’s ready at all times – again, just like its owner. Rambo is clearly struggling with his deep-rooted PTSD, and tries to keep it buried – mirroring a major theme of the original film, “First Blood.” This time, things are so bad that it looks as if he’s created an underground complex beneath the family farm. This appears to be a reference to his time spent in Vietnam, as well as the abandoned mine where he made his base-camp during his conflict with the authorities outside the town of Hope decades earlier.

#1: Rambo Never Draws First Blood

The trailer reminds us of the fact that Rambo never draws first blood, as he tries to keep the unstoppable killer within at bay. However, it comes out following a confrontation with members of a Mexican cartel who abduct his friend’s daughter. This standoff appears to lead the cartel back to Rambo’s farm as they attempt to kill him. As a result, "Last Blood" again directly mirrors the original film, as Rambo makes a series of elaborate and handcrafted traps to hunt and pick off the attackers one by one. Based on this, it looks as if we’ll be spending the final act of the film in and underneath the ranch. This reminds us that Rambo is at his fiercest when he's watching from the shadows and hunting his prey, rather than when shooting an M60 one-handed, or firing off a mounted M2 Browning machine gun while screaming. Rambo’s final leg of his journey ends September 20th, so we’ll get to see once and for all if he can ever find inner peace, or is destined to die the way he lived: a tortured hero.
