Top 5 Anime of Summer 2017
The sunshine may be over, but it left us with plenty of awesome anime memories! Welcome to WatchMojo.com and today we are counting down our picks for the top five anime of summer 2017.
For this list, we'll be looking at the most popular and successful anime that started airing during the summer season. This includes new series of previous running anime, however shows that started in the spring and carried on through the summer won't be counted. Alas, this mean you won't see any My Hero Academia on this list, no matter how good it is.
#5: “Fate/Apocrypha” (2017)
The Fate series is back, this latest entry doubling the amount of characters and abandoning continuity to give us a sensational slew of sword fights that never seem to slow down. With a brand-new set of Servants to take up arms in the Great Holy Grail War, along with much easier access for newcomers who have heard of but have never experienced the madness of this franchise, Apocrypha is certainly worth checking out! Though we’re kind of spoiled for choice when it comes to best girl…
#4: “Welcome to the Ballroom” (2017)
What, you thought that ballroom dancing couldn’t measure up as a visually stunning and entrancing subject matter worth of an anime adaption? As if. When a bullied high school student with no aspirations to speak of finds himself unwittingly thrown into the world of competitive dancing, he finally finds something worth motivating himself for. Even those of us born with two left feet can’t help but be swept up by the beautiful dance sequences combined with an enriching underdog story. Take a bow and prepare to be dazzled.
#3: “Kakegurui” (2017)
You think you’re a fan of gambling? You’ve got nothing on Yumeko Jabami. In a school where gambling is king and debt means literal servitude, the only kind of person that can disrupt the system and bring down the tyrannical School Council is a sociopath like Yumeko. While she certainly has a good heart and we can’t help but root for her through her various betting endeavours, there’s no denying that our heroine is a gambling addict who loves nothing more than the thrill of it all. And when we say love…we mean seriously love.
#2: “Owarimonogatari 2nd Season” (2017)
Araragi is at it again; overcoming all manner of supernatural oddities, assisting the many beautiful girls of his school and generally getting his ass kicked. This second half certainly didn’t disappoint, taking our lead to Hell and back (literally) before giving us a finale that was as breath-taking as is was batshit insane. While there is still the odd chance that we might get additional Monogatari content in the future, if this stunning series were to have an ending, we couldn’t think of a better one than this.
#1: “Made in Abyss” (2017)
Prepare to dive headfirst into the netherworld, where adorable characters, sweeping visuals and horrifyingly mature content blend together into an experience like few others. Focusing on a young cave raider known as Riko and an amnesia-stricken android called Reg, the two attempt to delve to the very bottom of the mysterious giant chasm known as the Abyss in the hope of finding Riko’s lost mother. Feel free to fawn over their chemistry, but be warned that much like the Abyss itself, the deeper you go, the more harrowing and bloody this series becomes.
