iProven DMT-489

The majority of digital thermometers out there offer just one way of reading temperatures, but this iProven model offers both ear and forehead readings, giving you the freedom to mix things up - in case your kids prefer one method over another. Praised for its quick-read capabilities and the fact that it can store up to 20 readings at a time, this $60 thermometer even looks great, thanks in part to its color-coded backlit display.

Innovo Forehead and Ear Thermometer

Similarly to the iProven model, this dual-mode thermometer features both ear and forehead temperature reading capabilities. It’s also similarly priced at around $70 and offers a crisp, easy-to-read digital display, so it’s a great alternative if you find that the iProven model is out of stock. Given, its 20 reading memory function is said to be a little confusing at times, and that’s why we’ve chosen it as our comparable pick. But still, if you want the freedom and flexibility of a dual-mode thermometer, it’s an excellent choice!

Vicks ComfortFlex

For those who prefer the old school oral method of taking a temperature, Vicks has this incredibly easy-to-use, no-nonsense model. Very reasonably priced at around $15, the ComfortFlex is renowned for its speed and accuracy, and even features a fever alarm with a light up display to instantly inform you on whether or not you have a high temperature. And thanks to its large digital readout, it’s great for people of all ages.

Kinsa Smart Ear Thermometer

If you like to stay connected and up to date with all the latest smart tech, then this Kinsa Smart thermometer is a great choice. Although you can use it with and without the Kinsa smartphone app, this $50 ear thermometer is better used with it, as it’s capable of recording your temperature-reading history, and allows you to enter symptoms alongside individual temperature readings and then subsequently receive health recommendations. Before we reveal our last pick, we wanted to give a shout out to a few other great products:

Exergen Temporal Artery Thermometer

Although most thermometers are fairly baby-friendly, this $35 Exergen model is arguably friendlier than most. It may not look overly flashy, but this forehead thermometer is non-invasive and incredibly accurate. Suitable for children and babies over the age of three months old, it’s particularly good at taking multiple temperatures one after another, with little to no downtime in between readings, unlike some other thermometers. Of course, it can also be used on adults. So which digital thermometer should you choose? Well, some methods of taking temperatures are a little more invasive than others, so just be sure that you choose a thermometer that’s appropriate for you and your family.
