Top 5 Most Disappointing WWE Matches of 2018 (So far…)
Just goes to show anything can happen in the WWE…including major disappointment. Welcome to Watchmojo.com and today we'll be counting down our picks for the Top 10 Most Disappointing WWE Matches so far in 2018.
#5: Brock Lesnar vs. Roman Reigns
Wrestlemania 34
Ok, so fans were never going to give this one a chance but even so it failed to find do anything of merit at all. Say what you will about their first encounter which saw Seth Rollins walk away with the gold, but that match gave us the catharsis of watching Roman Reigns get Roman Rekt for the first time. This follow-up did not answer any of the major questions like “who’s better?” or “who cares?”. Instead, we were treated to a monotonous 15 minutes of one-sided, slow-paced, snooze.
The only redeeming factor here was the swerve of Brock actually winning…but that just means we’ve got a part timer still as the champion.
#4: Braun Strowman and a Mystery Partner vs. The Bar
Wrestlemania 34
Oooh who could it be? Who will Braun choose as his mystery partner? A returning star like Y2J? Someone who’s been out on injury like Samoa Joe? How about you team him up with the big show so the fans can be in awe at the size of those absolute units? How bout some f’ing kid in the audience? Yeah that sounds about right. That sounds great Vince. Yes, in a spectacular Wrestlemania moment Braun walked into the crowd and grabbed a young boy by the name of Nicholas. After a nothing match, the two won the belts achieving two things: Making the Bar look weak and bringing down the credibility of the tag team titles. Ace.
#3: AJ Styles vs. Shinsuke Nakamura
Backlash
The sad thing is this one wasn’t even a bad match. You might point towards their Wrestlemania blow-off which didn’t quite live up to the hype but you have to give it credit: It had a beginning, middle and end, and Nakamura’s heel turn left us wanting more. Then this match happened, which was quite honestly the perfect time to put the belt on the ball-breaking bad-guy, but instead…the match closed with a double count out due to the daddy of all cross-counters – including two feet and four you-know-whats.
#2: Undertaker vs. John Cena
Wrestlemania 34
This match was one of the last remaining WWE dream matches. Rumors of it happening popped up almost every year for the past god-knows-how-many-years, and 2018’s Wrestlemania event looked to finally host the epic confrontation.
Buuuut, it ended up lasting less than three minutes, with Cena only getting a tiny bit of offense in. Sure you could argue that Undertaker was too battered up to put on a proper match, but if that’s the case why’d he come back to face Rusev and why the hell was he wasted on Reigns the year before? Fingers crossed a rematch is down the line…
#1: The Greatest Royal Rumble
The Greatest Royal Rumble
Simply put, this title was a bit of a misnomer. The entire event wasn’t really up to much, but the main event definitely takes the place for most disappointing. Billed as the biggest Royal Rumble in history, fans had every right to be excited, because you can’t go wrong with a good rumble. Well, it wasn’t exactly a bad match… it just wasn’t anything at all. It dragged on for far too long, there were no major surprise entrants in the match, and there really weren’t many major spots.
The victory achieved nothing, not even a shot at the world title, and the highlight of the event was Titus slipping underneath the ring. That really says something.
