#5: It’s Tekken, But With Pokémon!

Everybody and their grandmother knows about the massive fighting game franchise that is Tekken. Well, Pokkén Tournament is basically exactly that, but with Pokémon! (Get it? Tekken and Pokken?) Furthermore, it’s the same folk at Bandai Namco who have made this game, so you know you’re in good hands. At its heart, Pokken is one-hundred percent a fighting game, with a Pokemon twist. So it comes with all the cool and quirky things that we’ve grown accustomed to in other Pokémon games. Trust us, Pokémon and Tekken was a match made in heaven.

#4: There is Already an eSports Scene

One of the main selling points of Pokken when it came out in 2015 was Nintendo’s promise that there would be an active e-sports scene. Since then, the Pokken Tournament Championship Series has grown significantly, with the 2017 tournament having a prize pool worth over $25,000! But even if you don’t want international fame and glory, you can still make yourself a name by participating in ranked battles against players from all over the world. Now that the game’s on Nintendo’s newest platform, the Pokken community is more active than ever. Plus, nothing beats the feeling of ranking up!

#3: Even More Pokémon Than Before

Fighting games are great and all, but we all know what makes this game is awesome: Pokémon! And Pokkén Tournament DX boasts a roster of 21 different Pokémon from across all Pokémon generations to date. If you’ve played the Wii U version, you might be thinking: “Wait a minute, 21? Weren’t there only 16?” Yup, the DX version adds Croagunk, Empoleon, Darkrai, Scizor, and Decidueye, which were available in the arcade version of the game, but sadly missing from the Wii U. Plus, all of the Pokémon are unlocked from the start, so you can jump right into fighting!

#2: Brand New Game Modes!

Pokkén Tournament DX is not merely a re-release of a Wii U classic. We already told you about the 5 new Pokémon, but the game also brings in quite a few new game modes. First of all, there is the Team Battle mode, where you pick a team of 3 Pokémon to go against your opponent’s team, reminiscent of the traditional Pokémon games. Then, there are Group Matches, which allow you to compete against other players with a similar skill level and play style. It goes without saying that this is great if you’re a rookie player looking to increase their skills! Not to forget the Daily Challenges, which might be difficult for even the most seasoned players.

#1: Take The Battle With You Anywhere!

You know what was (and still is) the best part of traditional Pokémon games? That you could take them with you wherever you go. And thanks to the Nintendo Switch’s handheld mode, you can finally do that with Pokkén tournament as well. This way, you can make sure that the Pokémon battles never stop. Play it on the bus, on the airplay, during a break, or even during work (we promise not to tell.). And with local multiplayer available (obviously), anybody can join in on the fun!
