#5: Dylan O'Brien and Holland Roden Originally Auditioned for Other Roles
It’s almost impossible to imagine anyone other than Tyler Posey playing the principal role of Scott, but did you know that Dylan O'Brien, who plays his best friend Stiles, actually auditioned for that role first? Funny enough, Holland Roden initially went for the part of the ill-fated Allison. Only when she realized she wouldn’t get the role did she decide to audition for Lydia. Ironically, this isn’t the only wolfish role Posey has tried out for. He also nearly got the part of werewolf Jacob Black in 2008’s “Twilight.
#4: Shelley Hennig is a Beauty Queen
Shelley Hennig portrays the beautiful and dangerous Malia on “Teen Wolf” and has even been nominated for two Emmy’s for her role as Stephanie Johnson on the soap opera “Days of our Lives.” Before entering into the world of acting though, Hennig was actually successful in the pageant world. In 2004 she won Miss Louisiana Teen USA and went on to represent her state at Miss Teen USA 2004 in Palm Springs. She took home the title of Miss Teen USA that year and became the first ever winner from Louisiana.
#3: The Banshee Screams Aren't Real
In the world of “Teen Wolf”, banshees are similar to the traditional mythical creatures of Ireland and Scotland, but with a few special abilities that aren’t taken from folklore. In addition to hearing voices in their heads and using their screams as a weapon, they’re able to sense when someone’s about to be killed and they let out cries that can be heard miles away to alert others to death. While actress Holland Roden did do her own screams while filming the first few seasons of the show, eventually they had enough audio of her screaming saved up that she was able to preserve her voice and just do stage screams instead.
#2: The Howls on the Show Aren’t From Wolves
For a show all about werewolves, you might be surprised to learn that the creature’s signature sound isn’t actually made by a wolf. You may have noticed that Scott’s howl, along with the other wolf noises made by several characters in the series, don’t exactly sound very wolfish. That’s because the recordings used to create the howl are actually made by gorillas! Producers have said that these noises sound more menacing and threatening than those produced by real wolves.
#1: Dylan O'Brien was Unknown Before Teen Wolf
Though it may seem like he has a natural talent for acting, Dylan O'Brien had virtually no acting experience before getting the role of Stiles on “Teen Wolf.” When he was 14 years old, he started a YouTube channel where he created original content. From there, he was asked to work on a webseries by a local producer and he was put in contact with a manager while filming the series. Likely because he’s so new to the trade, O’Brien is also known on set for having the most gaffes and bloopers while filming.
