Top 5 Things We Learned From Beyonce's Vogue Interview

#5: Promoting Diversity Was Important for Her
Before we get into the content of the piece itself, let’s talk about all the boundaries that were broken in the creation of it. In the weeks leading up to the release of the Vogue September issue, news started to break that Beyoncé was being given “unprecedented control” over how she would appear in the magazine. Vogue editor Anna Wintour let Queen Bey choose her own photographer, as well as writing her own piece photo captions. In a move that surprised no one, Beyoncé helped to make history by hiring photographer Tyler Mitchell, who became the first black person to ever shoot the cover of Vogue.
#4: She Had a Difficult Birth with Sir & Rumi
When Beyoncé appeared on the cover of the September issue of Vogue back in 2015, she famously didn’t give an interview. This time though, she spoke in her own words, and gave fans and admirers a lot to work with. She got personal, talking about her experience giving birth to her twins. She said that she suffered from toxemia, or pre-eclampsia, at the end of her pregnancy which forced her to be on bed rest and ultimately deliver via C-section. She also revealed that Sir and Rumi were forced to stay in the NICU for weeks after they were born.
#3: She Has a Plan for Raising the Perfect Man
In the piece, Beyoncé' talked about her aspirations for raising her children, saying “They can explore any religion, fall in love with any race, and love who they want to love.” She went on to get even more specific about raising a boy, addressing the issues that society has with teaching men to be sensitive. She said, “I want my son to have a high emotional IQ where he is free to be caring, truthful, and honest. It’s everything a woman wants in a man, and yet we don’t teach it to our boys.” Preach!
#2: She Has Got Some Serious Body Positivity
Because of the difficult pregnancy she endured, Beyoncé revealed that by the time she gave birth to her twins she weighed 218 pounds. While she attempted to lose all the baby weight in three months after having Blue Ivy, she eventually realized just how crazy that was after Rumi and Sir were born. She said, “During my recovery, I gave myself self-love and self-care, and I embraced being curvier.” She went on to talk about how she has embraced her “FUPA” and you’d better believe we were all Googling that to see what she meant. It turns out that FUPA is an acronym for "fat upper pubic area" and now that we get it we’re all bowing down to Queen Bey even more than before.
#1: She Is the Descendant of a Slave Owner
One of the most shocking revelations that Beyoncé shared in her piece was the fact that one of her ancestors was a slave owner who fell in love with and ultimately wed one of their slaves. After doing this research into her family’s history, she said, “I come from a lineage of broken male-female relationships, abuse of power, and mistrust.” She went on to say that she considers her twins a blessing from God, letting both male and female energy exist within her at the same time. She concluded by saying, “I pray that I am able to break the generational curses in my family and that my children will have less complicated lives.”
