Top 5 Things You Didn’t Know About Post Malone

This former YouTuber is redefining pop culture and what it means to be a “rock star.” Welcome to WatchMojo.com, and today we’ll be counting down our picks for the Top 5 Things You Didn’t Know About Post Malone.

For this list, we’re focusing on the most interesting facts that you may not know about Post Malone.

#5: He Started Playing Guitar Because of “Guitar Hero”

Say what you will about obsessive gamers, but there’s a method to their madness. Back in the day, a young Austin Post developed a feel for musical technique while playing “Guitar Hero.” Not only did he feel like a rock star, but he ultimately upgraded from a controller for an actual acoustic guitar. In 2010, however, Austin experienced a Guitar FAIL when his strings broke during an audition for Crown the Empire. But as Bob Dylan once said, “Don’t Think Twice, It’s All Right,” which is advice that the blossoming musician luckily took to heart.

#4: His Father Introduced Him to Different Genres

After high school, Post Malone followed in his father’s footsteps by attending Syracuse University. Though he didn’t stay long enough for a book education, he’s now schooling a generation of hip-hop fans, largely due to his father’s musical influence. As the Assistant Director of Food and Beverage for the Dallas Cowboys, Richard Malone is partially responsible for Post Malone’s sports knowledge, but he also introduced to him to a variety of musical genres, which helped transform his son into a versatile artist. Thanks to his dad’s help, Post Malone is paving a new path for modern pop stars.

#3: He Is Pals with Justin Bieber

In 2016, Post Malone made headlines for apparently “chokeslamming” superstar Justin Bieber. What many didn’t realize is that Post Malone and the Biebs are pals, which is why they were together in the first place. Several months after the playful incident, they released the single “Déjà Vu,” a song that increased Post Malone’s pop culture presence after the massive success of his previous single “White Iverson.” Post Malone also served as the opening act for Bieber’s “Purpose World Tour,” so these two are most definitely friends and not foes.

#2: He's Tight with the A$AP Mob

In 2006, the A$AP Mob was formed in New York City. Over the years, a young Post Malone took note of their collective music and style, most notably A$AP Rocky’s unmistakable bravado, along with the creativity of Steven Rodriguez aka A$AP Yams. Sadly, Yams suddenly passed away in 2015, which prompted Post Malone to dedicate his song “Too Young” to the collective’s founding member. Post Malone’s sound may have developed in Texas, but his style unquestionably has A$AP written all over it. Not only that, but the mob also inspired his fashion sense, prompting him to get several tattoos, including one of John F. Kennedy.

#1: He's Currently the Most Streamed Artist in the World

With his debut album “Stoney,” Post Malone has accumulated over 1 billion streams. In late 2017, “Congratulations”, his collaboration with Migos’ Quavo, became an international hit. Meanwhile, a new single with 21 Savage, “rockstar,” topped both the Apple and Spotify charts, while another single, “I Fall apart,” reached #2 on both platforms.“rockstar” also reached #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, and broke Apple’s single-week streaming record with 25 million plays. So, as of right now, Post Malone is THE most streamed artist in the world and continues to influence 2017 pop culture.
