Top 5 Things You Missed in The Arrowverse – Week 1

Great Caesar’s ghost, did that just happen? Welcome to “Watch the Arrowverse,” the weekly show where we take a look at some of the Easter eggs, important moments, and theories from all of CW’s superhero shows. On this episode, we’ll be looking at the season premieres of “Supergirl”, “The Flash”, “Legends of Tomorrow” and “Arrow.” As we’ll be discussing the heroic details from all of those shows, we’re putting up the spoiler signal. #5: Enter: Reign “Supergirl” (2015-) At the very end of “Supergirl” Season 2, we witnessed another spaceship escape the destruction of Kara’s home planet, Krypton. Producers confirmed the baby inside that ship was the supervillain Reign. In the comics, Reign is a “worldkiller”, a powerful being that proved to be a match for Supergirl. However, when we first meet the villainess in the show, she appears as a mother named Sam. When a steel beam falls on her daughter, Sam seems shocked to discover she has super strength. What could cause this seemingly unaware version of Reign to clash with the girl of Steel? We’ll have to keep watching to find out. #4: The Spartacus Connection “Legends of Tomorrow” (2016-) What does an early 2010’s series about gladiators have to do with the Arrowverse? Well, for one thing, they share a lot of actors. The premiere of “Legends of Tomorrow” saw Julius Caesar roaming around in modern times. The actor who played the famous conqueror was Simon Merells, who previously played Crassus on the Starz series “Spartacus,” but he’s far from the only Spartacus alum. Captain Boomerang, Deathstroke and Nyssa al Ghul are just a few of the actors that have gone from Rome to Star City. The legends bring a lot of different actors together, but the Spartacus cast may be the true rulers of the crossover. #3: The Tornado Twins “The Flash” (2014-) Flash may not need to run to the future to know it. After being imprisoned beyond space and time in the speed force, Barry Allen emerges reciting seemingly random phrases. Observant viewers noted that some of his sentences were direct echoes of previous moments, like his reference to the pilot episode. With Barry repeating lines from the past, fans have theorized that his ramblings could predict future events as well. If so, his sentence about “needing more diapers” could hint at future little Allens: the Tornado Twins. There have been two incarnations of the Twins, but the original duo consisted of Iris and Barry’s children from the future: Don and Dawn Allen. Could we see the Twins in action in an episode that takes place in the future? We definitely hope so. #2: Samuroid’s History with the Flash “The Flash” (2014-) Having a robotic samurai as a villain may have seemed odd to TV viewers, but comic readers may have recognized the Samuroid from “The Flash” issues #180 and #181. There are a couple of key differences, like the fact that the comic version took place in Japan and the army of robots was controlled by a villain named – no joke - Baron Katana. One huge similarity was a perfect recreation of the Flash being hung from a Samuroid’s sword. Since we saw a new robot being prepared at the end of the episode, as well as our first peek at this seasons’ big-bad, the Thinker, the speedster is likely bound for another duel with his old and obscure foe. Before we get to our top moment, here are some of the best lines from this week’s episodes: “Now you’ve got all my attention” “That’s a good motto.” “Expecting someone else?” “I got the soul of a poet” #1: Channel 52 "Arrow" (2012-) You may have been too distracted by the unmasking of Oliver as the Green Arrow on live TV to catch this Easter egg. The network that broadcast the shocking report was Channel 52. In addition to being a reference to the DC’s New 52 comic line, the channel was a special feature in its issues for a short time. Inside the Arrowverse, the network has appeared before in a season 2 episode, reporting on Oliver’s return and the particle accelerator that helped power the Flash. Expect to see more from Channel 52 in upcoming episodes as Arrow and Co. deal with the fallout of this revelation.
